Su Lingyue was the treasured pearl of the Su family, notorious for her capricious and overbearing temperament, acting with unbridled willfulness. According to rumors from that sophomore year summer camp, she had publicly humiliated Ji Zhiyi in front of their classmates, calling her a beggar who was unworthy of sharing the same tent. Not long after returning to school, Ji Zhiyi quietly processed her withdrawal papers and disappeared without a trace. Many classmates speculated that she couldn’t bear the emotional trauma, shaking their heads in sympathy and regret.

Years later, the Su Group underwent a sudden transformation—the company split in two, with half remaining in the Su family’s hands and half falling into Ji Zhiyi’s possession. Along with the company shares, Su Lingyue also fell under Ji Zhiyi’s authority.

Everyone suspected Ji Zhiyi had come seeking revenge, eagerly waiting to witness Su Lingyue’s downfall. Su Lingyue herself shared this belief.

On the day she brought Su Lingyue home, Ji Zhiyi personally designed a pair of princess shoes. Socialites in their circle buzzed with excitement, all vying to purchase them at premium prices. As the shoes’ value soared to astronomical heights, Ji Zhiyi retrieved them from their display case at the company’s annual gathering. Under everyone’s astonished gaze, she knelt down and, with meticulous care, placed them on Su Lingyue’s feet.

Update: Dropping the story at C57, I can't force myself to continue because I'm really not a fan of Ji Zhiyi. Maybe I'll continue one day but definitely not now.

Original review:

Actual rating is 2.5, just bumped up the rating a little because the writing isn't bad.

Rarely do I leave a review before I'm done with a novel, but I'm having trouble to complete this one. Please note that below review will be my personal opinion and if you like the novel, you may disagree, so feel free to ignore... more>> this.

As of chapter 53, reading the novel feels like a torture because I don't like Ji Zhiyi. I felt this way back in chapter 20+ but I kept reading because I wanted to find a reason to like her, to redeem her, but it gets worse and worse for me.

Ji Zhiyi finding the opportunities to bump into her crush during high school days is normal, almost everyone has done this. But sneaking into classes and buying pictures secretly have started to cross the stalking territory. It gets worse after she buys the company Sue Lingyue is in and let terrible rumours about Sue Lingyue fly around under the guise of protecting her, which further worsens Sue Lingyue's reputation and isolates her even more.

It doesn't matter if Sue Lingyue manages to make genuine friends because of this stunt. It's not because of Ji Zhiyi, it's despite of her. Isolating someone from their support system feels eerily textbook ab*ser behaviour and I can't just pretend this is okay the way the author is trying to make it to be. Oh, add her basically asking Sue Lingyue to move into her house too. One could argue it's Sue Lingyue's own behaviour that pushed away the people around her including her roommate slash bestie, Chu Yi, but Ji Zhiyi is making it worse by making herself as the only/main person Sue Lingyue can rely on. I'm not sure if these behaviours can be excused just because they eventually end up together.

Aside from all that, I feel like there's another viable love interest option in the story that will just be brushed aside and I'm a little upset about that. I wonder if her character will be nerfed in the later half of the story to make Ji Zhiyi more palatable. If you've read the story, you'd guess that I'm talking about
Spoiler

Yang Zhizhi. The author tries to position her character as a somewhat mean girl trying to take revenge on Sue Lingyue for not liking her first movie, but she barely goes through with her "revenge" to be honest. She makes Sue Lingyue drinks 2 glass of alcohol and drops the idea soon after and even the act of making Sue Lingyue wears high school uniform to practice her lines with her feels childish at most. Also I laughed at Ji Zhiyi acting like she's the hero that brings justice for Sue Lingyue by making Yang Zhizhi drinks the same amount of strong alcohol, when Ji Zhiyi was the one who brought them together in the first place as her pawns. Like, hello?? We remember?? Sue Lingyue and Yang Zhizhi also share a few significant moments that would've made someone a love interest material if this were another love story. I'd rather have another enemies to lovers story than stalker-stalkee to lovers story, honestly.

[collapse]

I might change my mind if I continue with this story but as of right now, that's my opinion. <<less

Genuinely one of the most smartly written and engaging gl novels this website has. The secondary characters are utilized in an interesting way and all of them serve a purpose to the plot. The main couple themselves are incredibly sweet, and the development of Su Lingyue especially is heartwarming to read, since she grows so much from the beginning. Translation is top notch and there is a lot of corporation politics in the story, which might be a little hard to read, but whatever happens is all in service of... more>> love. Everything always feels grounded to reality, and the author never jumps into territory that is unbelievable. I could not recommend this story enough, please read it. <<less

One of the best novels I have read so far. It is very realistic and focuses mostly on the growth of Su Lingyue and the love Ji Zhiyi has for Su Lingyue over the years. The pacing is just right for me and all the chapters start right after the end of previous chapters. I have seen in some novels how one chapter feels discontinued from one another but that is not the case here. But I did want to see more of side characters like Shen Yuan and Jiang... more>> Yunlu. Jang ZhiZhi also kind of disappeared towards the end and was mentioned once or twice. In the end, it did feel bit rushed if we look at the usual pacing of the novel. By the end, I was very satisfied with this novel. But, it did feel like one or more chapters could have been written to see how Linguye interacted with Zhiyi's family which left me with wanting more. <<less
