Song Qingluo looked for Wen Ruoxian for six years.

The wealthy young lady ignored her family business, became her secretary, worked alongside her in the office, ate with her, and even wanted to share a bed with her when sleeping.

Wen Ruoxian never gave a clear response.

Until one day, Song Qingluo learned that the other party had a white moonlight¹ in her heart…

After careful consideration, she worked tirelessly and one night she ate and wiped her clean, and left gracefully.

Wen Ruoxian who woke up the next day: “?”

Later on, they met again because Song Qingluo found a necklace with the capital letter “W” engraved on the back.

There is also a picture of her hidden in the pendant.

Status: Completed
I'm at chapter 66 at the time or the review and there's still time to change my mind but as of right now I'm just deeply annoyed with the story.

It's not my first time reading a work from the author - I have read the first book in the Forbidden to be Tempted series and rather enjoyed it, though I skipped the second book since I found Jiang Yu utterly unlikeable in the first book and maybe that should've been a sign.

The author is great at making their characters have... more>> flaws, but sometimes there's a little too much flaws for the readers to root for these characters. I get wanting to make the characters appear more humans but when I step back and look objectively, I wonder if these people should even end up together and that's just, not great for a romance novel. Granted, there's still time to change my mind since I'm not yet done with this one.

Song Qingluo is spoiled, clingy, immature, stubborn/strong-willed, yet also fun-loving, determined and loyal. She lives by her own sets of rules and it seems like everyone around her revolves around her orbit, willingly or unwillingly (despite her denying that explicitly at one point of the story.) Either you love her or hate her, it's hard to find a middle ground and at first, I rather liked her character and rooted for her, but then
Spoiler

she lost her marbles when she found out that Wen Ruoxian had a 'white moonlight' and still hadn't fully moved on and that really bothered me. She was the one who wanted to woo Wen Ruoxian, and did all sorts of things despite the latter not asking her to do so and yet when she found out about Wen Ruoxian's secret, she acted like she was forced and deceived into doing those things, although Wen Ruoxian had indulged her again and again despite her own discomfort and concerns. Yeah, the woman was indecisive and didn't give a clear answer to Song Qingluo, but she barely had time to process her emotions since Song Qingluo was being quite pushy in her affection, honestly. Were Song Qingluo's actions a wake-up call for Wen Ruoxian? Likely so. But Wen Ruoxian wasn't responsible to regulate Song Qingluo's emotions. Song Qingluo lashed out at the woman she supposedly loved, then took advantage of her while she was drunk - I don't care if Song Qingluo was trying to justify it as 'Wen Ruoxian was the one who initiated it and I'm just going with the flow'. Wen Ruoxian wasn't fully sober and Song Qingluo still took the opportunity to be intimate despite knowing she would leave afterward. I lost her respect for her after these incidents. She's acting like a man who got rejected and then lashing out against the person who rejected them, it's just disappointing.

[collapse]

Wen Ruoxian on the other hand, is reserved, indecisive, slightly more conservative (or prude as Song Qingluo puts it), patient, accomodating and hardworking - almost a complete 180 from Song Qingluo. Her character is a little boring, but mainly inoffensive. It seems that the main thing going on with her is her unrequited love for her best friend, though we do see glimpses of brilliance as she helms her company, albeit overshadowed by Chen Suran (?) and then makes questionable decisions when it comes to Song Qingluo's employment. I also like how she tries her best to draw a clear line between her friendship with Song Qingluo and her business, wanting their friendship to remain "pure" aka not wanting to use that (ungrateful) Song Qingluo. She's indecisive and doesn't move on easy, which is the source of the major conflict in the novel but considering her personality and refrain, it does make sense. She's a little hard to like because of that and I think I'd be more annoyed with her if I read the second novel, so thankfully I didn't. She deserves better honestly, but she likes an immature adult so honestly more power to her, go get your girl or whatever.

I honestly could go on and on about more things in the novel, like about that snake Sun Yiren, or Song Qingluo's (supposedly milf-y) mother, or about Shi Chuning. Wen Ruoxian doesn't have many people around her except for her occasional secretary or her best friend she used to be in love with. I think to be able to evoke this much emotion is also the author's talent as they dials up the best and the worst traits human can have. The novel maybe deserves a better rating but I'll see if I finish the novel and likes Song Qingluo better. If not, the 2 star remains.

Edit: Finished the work and bumping my rating to 2.5 since both Song Qingluo and Wen Ruoxian actually show some growth towards the end and because Song Yulan and Shi Yunqiu has the best friendship in the world and I love them to bits. If the novel is just about their friendship I would rate it 10 out of 5 stars. <<less
