3.5 actually. I reserve 4/5 rating for novels I'd re-read and while I fairly enjoyed this one, I don't think I'll come back to it.

4 chapters in, I thought I recognised the outrageous plot and characters and sure enough, it's written by SITP author lol. I enjoyed their previous works due to their observation in humans' emotions and the complexity in relationships and while some aspects of that are present in the novel, I wouldn't say this is among their top works. Also very interesting to note this is another... more>> one of their main character dealing with the death of their father/fatherly figure (not a spoiler, the loss predates the novel) and it really gets me psychoanalyzing a little bit.

The romance between Xu Jingshu and Pei Youshan is sweet, albeit being messy as heck. There are plenty chuckle-inducing moments too, mainly by Pei Youshan's antics when she can't help but run straight into embarrassing moments on her own. I think it's an interesting contrast to have a character that's embarrassed all the time compared to the overly confident character in 'Don't Chase Me, It's Fruitless'.

I don't have much to say but it's a great light, amusing read with some angsty moments. I would recommend reading it if you're looking for something light-hearted to read and if you've enjoyed the author's work before. Plot wise, nothing too groundbreaking, it's pretty much what you'd expect from the synopsis you read. <<less

I thought this was a great rom-com with really endearing characters.

The beginning emphasized the comedy part, and Youshan's thoughts and actions genuinely made me laugh. The later inevitable misunderstandings made sense from each character's perspective, and I'm glad that Jingshu had to do some genuine reflection and groveling once everything came out.

Overall this was a cute, funny story that I really enjoyed.
