When Qin Qingman woke up, not only had she traveled back to the resource-scarce 1970s, but she also found herself with nothing.

The wooden house was drafty, and outside was a frozen wasteland.

She looked at her five-year-old brother on the kang, who was crying in a voice as faint as a cat’s meow.

She sincerely hoped this was just a dream.

On the brink of starvation, she went up the mountain to dig wild vegetables but encountered a wild boar looking for food.

Just as she thought she might meet her end, a figure suddenly appeared beside her, and with one punch, the man shattered the boar’s skull, which weighed several hundred pounds.

As the man dragged the wild boar over to Qin Qingman, he said: “Comrade Qin, marry me.”

After staring at the towering man with his incredible strength and the bloody boar, Qin Qingman shamefully surrendered.

With meat to eat, she agreed to marry!

Wei Ling had died on the battlefield.

When he opened his eyes again, he found himself facing a completely unfamiliar family and a drastically changed Beijing.

Sensing danger, he immediately packed his bags and requested a transfer to the frontier.

The frontier was lush with green trees and blanketed in white snow, providing him with comfort and peace.

After settling in the frontier for a year, the 26-year-old Colonel Wei Ling received a letter.

A beautiful female educated youth was on her way to the frontier.

Colonel Wei, who had no intention of getting married, went up the mountain in anger.

Then he encountered Qin Qingman, who was in danger.

The beautiful girl had bright eyes and brows, both frail and strong, like resurrection grass in the desert.

Wei Ling’s previously dormant heart was stirred…

This mostly reads as a time-travel slice of life novel with rural and military life focus and family ethics drama. I say mostly because there is one instance where MC says she knows some information because she's in a novel (which was quite sudden and never happened again - doesn't make sense since she didn't know anything else because of a novel plot). But other than that one instance, MC uses her historical knowledge and her own cleverness to live.

The novel could be separated into sections. In the first part,... more>> MC is trying to survive. Second part is her romance with the ML. Last part is more achievements/contributions - aka MC saves a town, finds gold, ML makes military achievements. The last part is very Nationalistic.

Overall the writing was quite good. It got better as the novel went on. The hateful characters were hateful and annoying. There was some redemption. I cried a bit during the dialogue between the MC and cousin as she died. The family and people drama was crazy in this one tho. The romance was strong and clean and never had issues. MC pretty much had smooth sailing. The exact details of MC and ML's past lives were vague but that's okay because other than having existing skills, it wasn't really necessary. The side characters were quite well fleshed out and relevant. It did feel like enough happened for the story to end. But also, that the author could have gone further with the story but didn't. <<less

The beginning of this story was quite fun to read. MC's revenge wasn't dragged on and she quickly face slapped the org owner's family until they couldn't fight back anymore. Then she focused on her own life but later, she met ML.

The romance between MC and ML was honestly felt a bit bland. They spent times apart more than they stayed together (at least in the main story was like that). ML often went on mission (it's understandable as he was a soldier... but still...) and MC was also busy... more>> with her own life. While they're together, all MC did was cooking while ML helped her and it continued until several chapters.

Later, the story got better after a conspiracy brewing. There's also the cute Dudu who livened up the story.

Spoiler

Still, I couldn't help but to feel sad when thinking about MC and Dudu's impending separation in the future. They're belong to different species and couldn't live together forever. Dudu would be back to the forest when he grew up and ML would also move to a different city when he's promoted in the future.

Don't know what Dudu and MC's family would feel when that day came because to Dudu, MC and ML were his parent and to MC and ML, Dudu was like their own child.

Thankfully, the author didn't write about this scene because it would be too heart wrenching for me.

The story ended before MC reached the resume of college entrance examination but I think this ending was quite ideal. <<less

Good premise and enjoyable. It’s rare to find a military husband who can go home frequently instead of relocating his family to a military compound.

The romance develops quickly, which I liked, but after marriage, some things became frustrating. The author tries to emphasize that the MC is natural and nonchalant, yet she can’t even stay calm while hanging washed underwear— quite contradictory.

Another issue is the excessive explanations. Every step the MC takes is followed by long-winded reasoning from the author, often repeated through the ML’s perspective. For example, when the... more>> MC accepted a village leadership position, the author spent too much time justifying how wise she was, followed by the ML reflecting on how smart she truly is.

It’s a bit too heavy on over-explaining. I’m dropping this because I got bored. <<less

It's a pretty nice read. I enjoyed it very much!

It's a lot of action and honestly I was delighted by it. Unlike a lot of similar era type novels, it doesn't solely focus on MC squabbling and face slapping while working her way up from rags to riches. Of course, MC and ML are quite OP in their own aspects which I don't mind.

The romance doesn't take up a lot of the novel. There's quite a lot of chemistry and tension between the main pair in the beginning. Less romance... more>> scenes in later parts as the plot develops.

As for the ending, I think it ended just nicely and happily. Not all loose strings are tied but it leaves enough room for the readers' imagination without the feeling of disatisfaction. Any more continuation would have dragged the plot out in so many different ways <<less

Enjoyed this! Real rating 4.2/5

Typical plot of a transmigrated modern woman in the 70s with a military soldier husband and a splash of child raising (both animal and child haha) but with additional takes that make it fresh from the usual stories with the same trope. I enjoyed reading this and although I felt the pacing was a bit weird, it didn't take away my interest in reading it all the way to the end.

It was interesting that both the FL and ML were transmigrated individuals, wherein one was from the future and the other the past, and it was interesting how they went about their new lives and yet found home in each other. The romance was well-paced given their situation and I found it a sweet, homey and comforting type of romance. It wasn't too crazy though, so I would like to think this novel focuses more on a spread-out mix of the FLs everyday life in navigating the 70s, caring for her brother, romance with the ML and nationalistic prompts in her everyday life as a women's commune leader.

[collapse]

I like the fact that most antagonists (basically the relatives) were dealt with pretty swiftly and also realistically, in a sense where not ALL the people who have harmed the MC's end up dead or in jail all the time, and are instead kept at a distance or alienated (of course with their lessons learned). It was also refreshing in the way the MLs family was treated with a realistic cut off since I have always pondered on the approach of transmigrated individuals and their "new families" and how forgiveness and treatment are always a weird line of "who has the right" etc. Though I was still curious to see the more fleshed out endings of the antagonists as the novel ends in a place where there could have been so much more, and left me guessing on the conclusions of almost every single one of the characters.

Personal on my part, I was sad we didn't get the satisfying "they had children and a bright future" type of ending and instead concludes in which they go back to the place both MCs have taken as their home after a reunion in the capital (which is also satisfying in itself, just wished there could have been more). Most of the implications of their future plans were very vague and left a lot to the imagination especially since it takes place from what I assume to be only two years of their lives. And on the child-rearing note, I rarely come across highlighting the struggles of women and child-rearing in the 70s due to malnutrition shown through the FL's themselves, where it was she herself who had a body that found it hard to conceive due to her body treatment in the past.

Overall, I liked the novel and consider it a light read where although it doesn't stand out from similar novels with the same trope, it is still an enjoyable one. <<less
