Ye Xiao was a superior cultivator in his previous life. The three factions of the realm kill millions of people every time they attempt to seize cultivation resources. Wealthy towns turn to wastelands in just a single night. They cover up their crime with an assertion that the towns were suffering from pestilence and disasters.

They forcibly hold all the resources for cultivation, monopolize all valuable practice materials, and keep outsiders from cultivating so that only their three factions could cultivate in the realm. Ye Xiao declared war against the three factions in retaliation for their actions. He fought alone and ended up dying in vain. However, he is reborn into the mortal body of a 16-year-old boy. He will use the powers he cultivated in his last life and slaughter his way back into the Realm. The story begins!

I'm enjoying this so far, coming from the author of OEM and TTNH, the author didn't dissapoint. I like the fact that this seems to be more lighthearted and comedic than the previous 2 books and doesn't involve itself too much on politics yet. I like smart protagonist and their plots, buy I don't want it to be the focus of the book, which is why I like the promise of this book more. Not saying it is superior since we're only 50 plus chapters, I'm just saying it has... more>> an enjoyable plot, reminiscent of good old xuanhuan. This is only my rating at the moment, depending on whether it lives up to its potential, the score could drop. Also the MC reaction to woman is funny, as he's not only dense but super pure. <<less

Author makes MC seem slightly insane, impatient and whiny. He whines about everything! This could be good but characters in this novel have pretty odd personalities.

When MC was reborn in the lower realm, is when the story was at it's best with schemes, comedy, fights & cultivation. But after ascending to the higher realms, the author decided to fast forward everything, especially the cultivation aspect where everyone around him just soared straight to the top without any meaningful development. Skipped the last 30-40 chapters to the end as it became a chore to read with all the contrived romances as well.

Would not read again

Give 4star because the translator give their best to translate this and i'd enjoy the funny moment and laugh toward the end.

The only complain here.. The cultivation system.. The writer keep on changing and it's so confusing.

Realms of the Firmament? Realms of the Fillers is what it should be. Don't read the pile of fillers. It's awfully slow. The MC is a s*upid mix of Jun Moxie from OEM and TTNH. He was shown to be extremely proud, but he suddenly is acting like a wannabe Jun Moxie. Since when did he become an Assassin? No idea.

Another annoying this is Bai Cheng. I will not tell anything about him, cuz thinking about him makes me angry, but whenever you see a "Man in white", just skip... more>> it and you will have a better story. <<less

The author is a Masogenistic Cu*t.

the ideas this sexist piece of sh*t puts out in chapter 194-195 is just too damn unbearable.

he thinks women should have no rights or freedom, & the greatest happiness in a women's life should is to marry someone and give birth to a child and grow old.

... more>> and like many CCP propaganda shills, he thinks fighting for one's country is the greatest honor a person can have. Even if, the country doesn't do sh*t for you.

but, he does bring up the irony of that statement later on, but not in a way to discredit his previous statement. He pretty much says, people will be criticized if they prioritized their family over the country, but they should put up with that because Confusion said the "family is more important" so it's okay to do that.

similarly, he also writes about the importance of power to any human including women. But still, he doesn't discredit his previous statement.

but I don't think he is building strong character or showing rather than telling by doing these things. Because in the entire novel these vague statements are written only when these backward & primitive thoughts pop up.

and in every other line, he is telling and a shitty, sh*t word count based writing is prioritized throughout the novel, so I don't think the author develops / uses these complex writing skills when these kinds of statements are spoken.

so I have to assume the author is a typical brainwashed, misogynistic, nationalist.

or the translators are tampering with the story, whis seems more unlikely

anyway I'm dropping this crap here. <<less

Start was great and the middle was good but the ending was disappointing, it seemed all rushed well it was but why did author ruined it?

One more problem with author is storytelling it is too much talking or describing even simplest of things. Character would feel something and then goes on rambling his/her inner thoughts that were more like a kids thoughts. 60-70% of the chapter is character explaining what happened or describing with his thoughts which dumbs down everything. Uugh so cringey some thoughts are related to women mostly.

This is the story about ancient top monster, which reincarnated after his death. Protagonist lived more then few millenniums, yet most of the time he is more dense than typical Japanese MC.

Oh and whole world is like that. Example: His father is super OP expert, capable of wiping whole world clean, by himself. Yet somehow, everyone seam of to forgot this fact. MC too. Oh, did I mentioned that this treasured son of GOD is running around ALONE, while top expert stay inside his home? Or even the fact, that... more>> news of his precursor situation should arrive looooonnnnnng ago to his father, only to be IDK? Forgotten?

To sum it up, story have MASSIVE plot holes, at all steps. And is filled with cliche all around. <<less

it's ok. some funny moments, some filler, and sometimes the author forgets between one chapter and the next what his MC's cultivation is and what cultivation realm he's in. romance is.... well, I don't read cultivation novels for their romance.

the harem crap is tolerable (or at least easy to skip) and at least there's no r*pe (so far). I had a hard time suspending my disbelief (more than usual) at some points; i.e. the virg*n cultivation otaku and the virg*n amnesiac somehow knowing exactly what to do and having so... more>> many rounds of "fun" their first night..... good thing she's a cultivator or she'd be suffering from some internal bleeding problems and horrible pain if she were a normal woman.

the powerups get more and more unbelievable as the story progresses so if you have a hard time with his powerups in the first world than don't bother reading more because they get pretty ridiculous, including his first day in the second world.

its an easy read if you don't try to take anything too seriously. as I have a hard time taking anything with harem in the tag seriously it's an all alright story so far. <<less

An interesting start with a flawed but persevering MC who reincarnated after dying.

And then it went from great to "wtf is the author doing with all this nonsense?!"

Pros:

    1. Interesting start and semi-smart MC due to all his experienced in his past life.
    1. MC is kinda funny and his flaws are properly introduced and explained.
Cons:

    1. FILLER CHAPTERS. HOLY f*ck. You'd expect this kind of chapters at around the 300+ chapters where its most likely starting a new arc? Nope, as early as 20s-30s of chapter you'd encounter them. Sure some are great and funny but most are just 10% plot and 90% some sort of rambling that could be explained in a paragraph or so. Example of one filler chapter that really made me mad was just the army chanting some sort of battle song/cry? You'll miss nothing if you skip that chapter at all since the past 2-3 chapters already established and painted what you need to see on what the army is all about.
    1. LONG WINDED DISCUSSION/FIGHTS. Simple things like a negotiation usually takes like 2-3 chapters and at most reach around 5-6 chapters if its filled with the "dao of verbal insults"; but this novels takes it to another level where its normal/short ones takes at least 6 chapters long for simple "I want you to do this so I'll do this for you" and its full of nonsense verbal exchanges where you'll roll your eyes because it seems like nobody f*cking pays attention to what each other says because they keep repeating and repeating.
TL;DR

Its like a great tasting cupcake inside a clamshell packaging. It takes an amount of time to just open not to mention annoying to just eat the cupcake. Wouldn't recommend to read.

A great novel by the author that is witty and funny, I enjoyed reading it. One of the Chinese Webnovels with so many chapters, I always feel that it is unjust to compare them to our standard understanding of a novel and to rate them low. It was written for the Chinese readers and may have things that is weird to the non-Chinese, so I request people to be a little understanding towards the novel and other novels like this.

the only romance that I found interesting are all from that snow clan, especially Bing Er. The story plot is great, but slow. The comedy is there, but due too many redudancy, sometime its hard to get the feel. Above all, I skip a lot, and still found the story interesting in keypoint chapters.

First I want to apologize for possible future errors in grammar or in characters names here, after reading so many MTL my normal English is kind of rusty now, and my memory was never that good. Now, to the review, lol.

Realms in the firmament is an above average novel of its genre, developing some traditional points that the genre explores better than most of its "brothers" and exploring some points that most of them don't really feel the need to approach.

Still, it's unsatisfying, it gave me the impression that the... more>> author "opened" too much plots (or introduced too much characters) and couldn't develop them decently, thus having the need to latter throw to our faces a lot of "because brother/wife X is lucky, here is a miraculous plant/master that transforms him in a top expert of this realm", "wife X loves him forever cause yes", "villain didn't predict this cause MC is suddenly is one of the smartest of the realms".

So yeah, some things a didn't like:
Spoiler

The relationship of MC and the master and disciple that he cures in the lower realm (not Bing'er, Weren Chuchu and Bingxue), is latter poorly developed, the power ups of his brothers and wifes is too forced sometimes, the power ups of the MC is based in the "power of love and friendship" (or we could say he gains enlightenment of ways of life, then he jumps 2 cultivation realms suddenly) and he becomes the strongest of the "beyond the heavens realm" too fast.

The story introduces the 12 spirits and the chaotic beast (the beast inside the egg, the little cat), but they aren't really used well. The cat is a plot device that solves everything, and should be the real MC. The cat makes pills, what besides making the MC strong turns possible for him to have an organization, the cat steals cheat fruits so the MC can use for himself and his friends, the cat controls other beasts cause it has a superior bloodline (or something like that), the cat even eats the final boss, for gods sake I laughed and cried too much at this, lol.

Too lazy to write more here, I still enjoyed the ride, haha.

[collapse]

If the standard ratings here were different I would give this one a 3 of 5, 6 of 10. But it's not bad, I enjoyed it, albeit making you frustrated sometimes it's a good one to pass the time. <<less

One of the funniest stories I've read. The humor might be kinda crude??? but it's funny. Quite a bit of cussing, but it's censored???

The characters are awesome~ The world building is good too.

The harem isn't really obnoxious, so that's nice. The misunderstandings tho...

... more>> The relationships between people are complex and funny, but can be full of angst.

It might be a bit cliched, but it's done in a good way.

MC isn't actually OP yet... he's just got skills and a cheat???

Politics are kinda important, but the MC isn't a complex schemer.

The big baddie is so far untouched by the MC. There's another big baddie for the future too.

Multiple realms.

Spoiler

Heck, MC apparently wasn't THAT strong before he died anyway. Wasn't the top of his realm, and had another couple of realms to go up.

Have high expectations on this one going from Transcending the Nine Heavens. I think it mostly delivers.

Setup's fairly similar to TtNH, reincarnation, overblown power despite actually being in the middle of the middle rank in the past life, supposedly "straight" but somehow ends up extremely cunning in the second reincarnation.

There's a couple of things that you can expect from this author, a large focus on humour (some of which are either crude or painfully forced), a ridiculously large amount of foreshadowing that isn't activated for 100's of chapters, "smart"plot armor... more>> decisions to get past stronger enemies which are always stronger than MC.

Based on what's been translated so far, I think I feel less attachment to this MC because less things happen due to his effort and prior knowledge and more because of the artifact he has access to, in addition, the author downplayed the major conflict of all the translated chapters a bit too much I think, it's difficult to imagine any of the posturing having a long term effect on the MC. I also personally feel the romance in this one is handled slightly awakwardly and forced a lot more compared to TtNH. Speaking of that, the idea of the MC being too chaste is both amusing... and forms the basis of too many jokes that can be considered dumb after it's been pulled for the.... 8th? 9th? time.

That said, overall writing is fairly solid. Not perfect, but I think it fought for and deserves the 4 star rating pretty well. I'd bump to 5, but minor grievances make me hesitate to put 5.

Edit: after allowing the thoughts to sit for a period of time, I now understand why I put a 4 for this novel and a 5 for TtNH, the difference is in the level of planning and the focus of personal power by the MC, this novel focuses about 40-50% on lucky coincidences, and 20% or so on the specific personal powers of the MC. This in my opinion creates a flow "around" the MC that propels him forwards rather than having the MC be the centerpiece of the story. It's still a very good approach, but one that relies a bit on deus ex machina's as opposed to machinations of the MC. <<less

I like the comedic side of the MC in this series. There is foreshadowing in the story that the MC might be able to travel to the world of his previous life and exact his revenge to the ones that killed him. If that is the case, the story will become more interesting.

Update: Forget what I mentioned about the MC, he has turned into a wuss. I am not sure how the MC has regressed, instead of getting stronger, but he has become a complete wuss. It has been happening... more>> little by little, but he became clear in one arc. <<less

The novel itself is good, it has some interesting things, but unfortunately it has some problems. Here I will tell you some things that I did not like very much.

I won't say much, but there may be some ****SPOILERS****

1. The novel is extremely slow, but very slow. It has a lot of filler... Ex: Holding an auction to sell simple sideburns 100 chapters for it to happen

... more>> 2. The protagonist is weak, even if he has a legacy to become the strongest, he is probably only strong at the end.

3. Well, the scene that made the novel boring. When a goddess from nowhere descends to the mortal world and takes the protagonist's fiancée.... And well, now he can think about what the protagonist has to do to see her again.....

Volume 1 has just started and what happens is that a goddess descends, one that the protagonist didn't even know existed someone stronger than him in his past life. So if he wants to see her again, it will only be at the end of the novel...

  1. Anyway, the novel is good, if you have nothing to read and you have a lot of time. I will probably continue it when I run out of novels.... If you want to read something better you can read the one about the evil monarch or the one about transcending the nine heavens.

If you are looking for some "political" story with intrigue and schemes, that you will probably like this story. But if you are looking for cultivation story, better ignore this novel.

This is not a cultivation novel. Yes, it "technically" has alchemy pills, beast cores, cultivation techniques, leveling up, realms, etc. But keyword "technically".

-Most of the leveling happening somewhere on the background without significant events. Except for rare occasions, which are very good (but they are too few). To boost the story MC even stars from one realm higher. At some... more>> moment of the story author starts to make jokes about leveling him selfs, that events like falling from the cliff and finding secret technique happens only in the novels. If the author don't take leveling up seriously, why we, readers, should? "Or, my 15th wife, how are you so strong after missing for 300 chapters? Or, you fell from the cliff and found some mysterious master, who transfered his kidney into you and now you are automatically leveling up when drinking water? Great!" It really gives the feeling, that author makes some crappy excuses about cultivation just to boost MC and side characters levels, just to move story further, instead of making coherent and logical system.

-Pill making happens by magical plot almost without any logic. If in the beginning author still tries to describe the ingredients for pills and name them, that at some moment of the story author stops naming pills and just uses them at any possible moment. At some moment MC just finds some magical McGuffin that allows author to ignore the details further. If someone at the death door, there is always magical pill that can bring him back to life.

-A lot of the time MC just missing in the story. Instead, we read unnecessary long descriptions or dialogs of bunch of side characters. One time, we read few chapters about people who arguing what presents they should give on the wedding day. On other, group of people arguing with each other who is more shameless for several chapters. In the of the story almost completely disappears for dozens of chapters in exchange for dull and boring political schemes.

-Very promising world building totally ruined by static locations. In 1st and last chapters MC most of the time sits on the same spots without moving around. In 1st chapters we don't have secret realms, hidden sects, secret abodes. Nothing. It became better in 2nd chapter when MC finally starts to travel around the world. Which almost totally abandoned in the last chapter. Last realm has 5 controlled territories and 1 uncontrolled, which should give a lot of space for adventure, but our MC again settles in one spot and just occasionally decides to travel, just to come back few chapters later.

-Battles agains enemies which are higher in realms or even levels just almost non exist (except for 2nd chapter which is probably the best part of the story). Most of the time MC too weak to fight, so he is using lies and disguise with plot armor to survive. After that, he levels up and became to strong. So there is essentially no thrill and no satisfaction after the battles, except for the fights in the end of 1st and in the of 2nd chapter.

-Techniques and artifacts also secondary in the story. He finds interesting artifact/technique, uses it couple of time and just forget about it afterwards. Which is bad, because those things are essential for any good cultivation story. It allows to make more interesting and complex battles. If character is weaker in the levels, he can use artifacts, beast, swords to close the gap between them. But here there is none.

I really liked the story in the beginning. It felt fresh from typical cultivation novels, but after some time the deviation became too strong which turned cultivation story into political story with crappy intrigues. I am currently at 1898 chapter and I just don't feel to finish reading it. Again, MC is almost absent in the story by sitting on one place and we have a lot of new characters (when it is almost the end of the whole story!!!). Two of his potential wives which played big part in 1st and 2nd chapters are absent most of the time. What was the point to push them through two chapters? Just to show them few times in the end? Maybe I will finish it later, but I doubt that after the last 100 chapters my impression will change drastically. <<less

Compared to the author's other work, this is by far the worst one. If you've read TTNH or OEM, you'd know instantly.

Spoiler

The most disgusting part about this novel is the amount of animal ab*se.

Another thing that makes this novel cringe is the fact that the MC has no real experience with women so all women interactions are s*upid compared to OEM, where it was done better.
