In his previous life, Feng Yue was exploited by the brother he trusted most. After his brother ascended the throne, he began eliminating perceived threats.

Accused of treason, Feng Yue had his legs amputated at the knees before the imperial court and was exiled to the bitterly cold Beichuan for ten years.

During these ten years, he was betrayed and abandoned by everyone; only his male wife, Wei Xiaofeng, remained unwaveringly by his side.

Yet, Feng Yue had initially married him with ulterior motives and had never treated him well afterward…

Wei Xiaofeng, the fifth son of a family from the Ministry of Personnel in the capital, was known as a notorious pushover (or: good-for-nothing, weakling).

He cried at the slightest provocation, would merely sulk when bullied, couldn’t carry heavy loads, and possessed neither literary talent nor any practical skills.

Yet, it was this seemingly useless man, unable to endure hardship, who accompanied Feng Yue through immense suffering in Beichuan.

Those ten years were indescribably harsh. After Feng Yue died, this man, seen by all as spoiled and weak, calmly arranged his husband’s funeral.

Carrying Feng Yue’s ashes, he traveled thousands of miles to the Emperor’s palace, ready to die, seeking justice for his husband.

“My husband was a hero! Why did you all betray him?”

Enraged, the Emperor had him executed on the spot.

Feng Yue’s spirit watched helplessly as Wei Xiaofeng died before his eyes, the pain twisting within him like knives.

When he opened his eyes again, he had returned thirteen years earlier, to the very beginning of the struggle for the throne.

Feng Yue swore that this time, he would seize power firmly and ascend to the supreme position!

And this time, he would also protect his male wife and ensure his well-being.

TL;DR: Rating: 2/5 (Dropped). Used MTL. Started decent. Personality felt that the plot quickly became convoluted due to very odd plot decisions made by the author. Both main characters (MC and ML) have low IQs imo, which might be fine if written well because not all MC/MLs have to be geniuses—but here it just made everything feel chaotic. The MC, who is supposed smarter after rebirth, constantly seemed to make things worse for the ML. Unnecessary lack of communication/misunderstanding between the ML and MC + the secret identity plot instantly... more>> ruined their chemistry in my eyes. Writing feels immature, and instead of wondering where the story is going, you're left wondering why it's going there at all. Might re-read later out of boredom, but not hopeful. This is my personal opinion and I have a very low tolerance for things I don't like, so I recommend reading maybe 10-15 chapters to see how you like it! There seems to be readers on jjwc who really liked this story.

a little more in-depth:

The IQ of the ML/shou is low but that's fine because if written well, it can be interesting and even endearing. It's hard to say if the author did this well. At first I liked the ML, even if I thought the ML didn't seem to get smarter during their tragic past before dying (the first two or so chapters was the past to their death). He was loyal and cute! But after the MC's rebirth, we get to see the ML's side of the story. This involved their family and other gers. It was so... random? And repetitive, in the sense that it was very cliche and over exaggerated to the point that it seems like it's supposed to be comedic. I'll be honest, I can't tell if the author is trying to make the ML comedic relief or not. Regardless, I never laughed. I personally thought the ML shou's side of the story was all over the place, jumping from one thing to the next with in a matter of sentences and paragraphs.

Like, I said the ML has a low IQ which you might expect from the title and summary. However, the IQ of the MC gong is also low, which makes me question the author's IQ. I'm not convinced that the MC is a man reborn who gained enlightenment from his tragic past. Maybe he lost IQ points after going back in time, idk. The MC wants to protect the ML but causes trouble for the ML because

Spoiler

rumors spread after their first encounter at an event that the ML shou offended the the MC, who is a prince.

Why? Because the MC pushes the ML off of him after the MC tripped and left the scene. The ML was scolded by everyone and bullied for his behavior and appearance.

But then later the MC helps the ML get home after the people who bullied + MC's family left him at the event. ML had a feeling the MC liked him and was so happy. it was very of cute! I was like aww yay! get together soon! But then the ML hears rumors that MC likes someone else.

Why? Because earlier, during the event, after looking for the ML, the MC decided asked about another ger and went for a walk with that ger and everyone saw it 🙄.

Mind you, the MC and ML's first encounter was during the that walk! The author wrote the MC daydreaming about his precious shou while strolling with another person, has the show accidentally fall into his arms, makes you think that it's about to be a meet-cute, and then has the MC push the ML to the ground in front of everyone. I was so surprised I cursed out loud because I totally didn't expect this.

Explain to me how doing these things will help the ML? In front of everyone the MC isn't very nice to ML and the ML gets his feelings hurt because he has no clue what is going on. MC's family and staff think the MC gong some kind of player who's interested in a bunch of gers. Like dude why would ML want to be with you if you have this kind of reputation?

[collapse]

Then the author throws in an unnecessary secret identity plot? If it had been tagged, I probably would have skipped this novel, because the secret identity trope is often dragged out a lot of online novels imo and just leads to a lot of lying and deceit. In this story it was dragged out—because it never should have happened in the first place. I skipped a head a little and thought the identity was revealed, but it was temporary reveal.

Spoiler

After being mean to the ML again when the ML needed help, the MC gong helped the unconscious ML. When the ML woke up, the MC kept on a mask because he didn't want to scare the ML shou with his real identity... And it's so dumb, because what would the ML be scared of? The fact that you were a jerk and then kind and then a jerk again? the MC should know the ML well since they were literally together for like 10+ years or something before rebirth! The MC should know that the ML doesn't hold grudges and is pretty easy going and naive. Whether the ML would be scared because the MC is a prince or because the MC is "heartless" (ML's words not mine), it doesn't matter! because the ML would probably be scared for a little bit then quickly get over it because of his personality.

[collapse]

The MC, a man, also acted unsavory toward the ML, a ger.

Spoiler

while wearing a mask, MC teased the ML after saving his life that the ML should use his body to pay back. The ML was shocked and scared reasonably but the MC admitted he was joking and the ML let it slide because his life was saved.

On a different day, the identity of the MC is revealed, and the MC teases the ML again as if he's going to r*pe the ML. The MC was joking but the ML was not. The author described it as the two of them "playing a game" of "you run, I chase" for 30 minutes. I'm assuming they meant the ML kept kissing the MC while the MC told them to back off. The MC was laughing but the ML was sobbing and distressed and described as genuinely scared that the ML was going to do that to him. Even accused the MC of "ruining his reputation, " but the author continues to write the MC happy and laughing.

My words are blunt, but please know that this scene was written in a very lighthearted manner imo.

oh and the MC's identity being revealed during this scene? Yeah it was a fake out. The ML was drunk and thought the whole thing was a dream.

[collapse]

Was this all even necessary? Anyways this touched my bottom line, if you will, which is why I'm stopping here. I have a very low tolerance for certain trope and the way the author chose to depict the the scene vs how they seemed to want the scene to come across as.

Like I said before, if the MC's IQ is low, it really makes you question the IQ of the author, forreal. If not that, you'll question their age, because it feels like this was written by a middle schooler or high schooler. I think the author wanted to write a cool and kind of calculated gong that loves his shou but inadvertently made the gong look like a fool—just like he was in his last life. But the way the author wrote it makes me feel like I'm not supposed to think the MC is an idiot 🥲

The plot had so much potential but from what I can tell it is not being executed properly. Rather than be curious about what will happen next and pondering the author's intentions (oh, I wonder where the author is going with this), I spend 20ish chapters angrily thinking: What heck is going on? Why the heck would he do that? Why the heck would he say that? What the heck is the author thinking! I can't give it a proper review because of this, so I will refrain leaving a rating for now. I did enjoy the first few chapters and I liked the characters so maybe, I'll try this novel again this when I have nothing else to read~ <<less

I think its a solid novel, honestly it exceeded my expectations.

The other review left very early, but the things they said are true except for the IQ of fhe protagonist, so if something of that annoys you, then you can go.

Talking about the complete novel, I rank it 4/5, its a very strange novel, I started reading it with a "happy nonsensical" vibe, a easy going lecture, but when the novel starts the more complicated storyline it's really intriguing.

Tho, I have to say, there are two others CP in this... more>> novel that aren't indicated: 1. Feng Chao x Chu Liangqiao 2. Feng Xilan x Si prince

So... the reason why I dropped the ranking from 5 to 4 are because of them. The relationship ship between the MC and ML is pretty sweet, so sweet it melts my teeth; ML is pretty dumb, that's said in the first chapters of the novel so dont act suprised by that, but he is hard working and loyal, brave and stubborn, which I find very lovely; the actions of ML in the first chapters are more complicated that what they seem, specially taking in consideration the conspiracy of the palace, also, he likes to annoys ML hehe. In the later chapters ML steps out of the story a little bit since it focus more on the scheme and battles of the throne but overall his presence is very important for the ML character.

About the 2nd CP's here... well how do I begin?

First, the Feng Xilan x Si prince, TW

Spoiler

So, theres r*pe and a very gruesome scene, stay away of the parts of this novel if you are trigger by that; the prince Si Mo falls in love at first sight with Xilan but the marriage is given to Si Siming, which causes Si Mo to become crazy and abduct Xilan and r*pes him to make him marry him, this doesnt work and Xilan still marries Siming (Siming doesn't care about Xilan and has a secret lover so he doesn't touch him). In Nanzhao, Xilan has a home made abortion because he got pregnant by Si Mo and Xilan hates him a lot, but... they end up together. Honestly, I liked them better than the other secondary CP, it was more complicated and Si Mo character is very complex as well as the feeligs of Xilan for him, the story dont portrays this as a good thing, it makes obvious that what Si Mo did was r*pe and Xilan deals with trauma, it was very interesting to read but again, very Triggering so keep yourself away if you can't handle it, TW for all of their scenes

[collapse]

The Feng Chao CP was boring for me, but if someone it's interested in the dynamic of a dominant shou and a wifey gong probably gonna like it.

Spoiler

This one is the reason to lower my ranking, it was so boring that I felt like skipping every interaction between them, over all its not bad perse, just boring, the shou was very mysterious for all that I care, and the gong felt more like a pet than a real love interest, their romance evolves very fast and before you know it, they have a daughter which is like okay but....

They weren't as complex as the other ones, not saying that they arent complex but the shou lacked inner thoughts for me to understand why he was doing all of that, his life was almost entirely for the sake of gainig the throne, so when he decides to stay for it and abandoned the gong and his daughter I felt very emotionally unattached to him, its like okay, live how you want but im reading this for romance xd. It may appeal to someone, not for me tho

[collapse]

The life experience of MC is very intriguing too, once you know everything fits in place, it was sooo interesting.

I recommend if you like conspiracy tropes with sweet CP, about the other CP's, it doesn't affect the understanding of the story if you skip their interactions or parts, so, you can skip them if you are only interested in the Main one or two of the three pairs.

Ups, I almost forgot something, but this a spoiler of something that gets revealed at the end of the novel so read if you want

Spoiler

I f*cking hated Empress Chen, and I hated that everyone forgives her like ?? I undertand since she was a mother and a daughter but what she did was unforgivable, not only did she caused the death of her mother, she betrays her family for a man she loved but was a traitor, she used Feng Yue as a puppet for her own purpose and in the past life she was the original reason of the end of Feng Yue life, and she did so without regret, her death on the first life was probably to find her death lover in the after life after her revenge was over, but f*ck you, too innocent to notices that her lover was a traitor but soo cruel to kill her son that she raised since born, and killing her own family for the sake of a false revenge, even tho I understand why they forgive her, her sins and actions were so cold and ruthless that she made MC almost get killed twice when he literally did nothing to her, he wasn't of the Chen Family, she kept him away from his real family, trains him to be the blade of Feng Xiao and ruins his life just to get revenge on the Chen Family, an innocent child who in his first life never knew his real upbringing. Ugh, I hate her.
