Ignore my rating of 4 it was supposed to be 5 but I don't know how to change it, anyway

Out of 89+ novel that I read this is the first time I wrote a review because I want to share that his story is rlly good.

For those who are planning to read it but are hesitant because of others review, I'm gonna tell u right now that your missing another masterpiece.

* for those who don't like naive FL don't worry our FL is not like that nor is she like those character who is cold or cunning. She's smart but not to the point that you feel like its impossible.

Others would think this just like those typical rebirth story where the FL lead is like a mary sue, but its not.

I think out of all the 36+ novel that I read with a FL lead I would say this story is the one that I like the most, for the particular reason that the side characters in these story felt alive. You will really feel attached not only to our ML and FL but also the side characters even the villain. You would even want to transmigrate in this story so that you can save them, coax them (especially Chu Zhao I feel srry for him) because that's how I felt, I rlly wish I wound transmigrafe in this story (/ω＼)

(WHAT WOULD I SAY AFTER THIS IS A SPOILER SO SKIP IT IF U DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED CUZ WTF I'M HAVING A HARD TIME PUTTING IT IN SPOILER) I even cried because of how the side characters died especially Yan He (TДT) I hope the author didn't do that, until now, thinking bout it make my heart ache *sigh* 〒_〒

But anyway this story does not only revolve around FL revenge. Typically this type of story where the FL transmigrate for revenge the story will focus on FL revenge but in this story it doesn't, yeah there would be a revenge scene but its not that heavely focus there, I think besides focusing on fl's revenge and FL & ML love the story focus onto war.

Everyone know that war is rlly terrible but you wouldn't rlly now how terrible is that, not until u experience it.

In this story author-san let us experience how war brought nothing but chaos, it also let us experience on how hurtful would u be once you seperate to your love ones.

In this story our loves ones is those characters who we fell in love in these story and died like Ye Han, Hong Xiu, Shi Tuo, Hong Shan, Liu Buwang or even our Villain Chu zhao (even tho he did not die its just sad thinking how lonely he is)

But anyway this story is rlly good, at time like this I wish I really tried to study hard to improve my english, because of it I can't write a review that do justice to this story

This novel was good, deserved with 5 star. I am not too fond of writing the review, one of the reason, since english is not my mother tongue. So this is the first.

If you live strong heroine, loyal, brave and knows what she, herself wanted, you will like this novel.

How should I say this... MC is s*upid. I'm really questioning her qualifications as a supposedly former general. How could I not, she, a former general in an ordinary 16 yo body, joined the army, stuck out too much because she displayed a profound understanding of military knowledge and skills. No one pointed out that she was suspicious except ML. Even she herself didn't have a sliver of thought that she might appear suspicious. Like girl, wasn't you supposed to be a general? If this not s*upidity, I don't know... more>> what is. I know intelligence, slyness, and maturity wasn't in her character design (girlie get mu*dered by her own family's schemes and she caught no whiff of it, wow s*upidity heh), but I expect better when it comes to the ins and outs of the military. She should, as a former general, consciously know that she appeared suspicious with those skill show-offs. And maybe acknowledge that because of that she may be in danger? So, in short, if you're looking for a serious book, this is not for you. Just read The Empress' Livestream, it's better there and the general FL actually has qualifications to be a general. <<less

Almost every new chapter of this makes me wonder if it can get any better and with the next chapter, I answer- yes.

Funny, touching and super slooooow burn romance. So slow, one might think it's glacial, but that little flame keeps low key burning along. The MC and ML really get to know each other as people and it's brilliant.

This is so beautifully written, engaging, and the characters feel very real. The writing has really improved from the popular ill-fated consort/military empress books. Those were quite dark with a focus on revenge which is not so relatable. The storyline of star general is smooth and the MC is so likeable.

So sad that she has to suffer so much in both lifetimes. Love her grit and honor and by god how blooming’ hard she works. Despite all the injustices she suffers, she is not an embittered curmudgeon despite still wanting revenge of course. Am slowly warming up to ML. Translators are doing a wonderful job, worth waiting for the quality work they’re doing.

So beautifully written, there's no words to describe this masterpiece. A must read. Your heart will be torn painfully along with He Yan into a thousand pieces, yet heal back with warmth with Xiao Jue's seemingly endless love. Xiao Jue is no doubt, the top male lead I love most. Everything about him is admirable. The more you get to know him, the deeper you fall for this man.

He Yan is also his equal match, so kindly powerful and strong. Despite the betrayals she faced, her heart still remains pure... more>> and simple. These two were truly meant to be together. What an admirable and beautiful pair. Don't hesitate to give it a try. It's a bit slow, but promise this will be one of the best journey you've ever walked upon :) <<less

i've read other works of qian shan cha ke, including The Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage, The Rebirth of an Ill-Fated Consort, and Marriage of the Di Daughter. and unlike the other 3, Rebirth of the Star General, this novel doesn't focus on indifferent and resentful female lead. I mean yes, the plot is somewhat the same, its all about betrayal from female lead's own family member, but this has more 'human' side.

our female lead, He Yan, is loyal, kind, smart, strong, straightforward and good at scheming especially in battlefields strategies. She wants to protects her comrades, her country, her friends. While our male lead Xiao Jue or Xiao Huaijin is cunning, strong, deep down he has a strong sense of compassion. This is different from other rebirth story where FL is rebirth to her own self, but goes back to the past. In this novel, FL is rebirth in another female body, in the same timeline, with the same name, but both of them have a strikingly different character.


i cry at the scene where FL mother sacrifice for fl. It's just so heartbreaking.

Honestly, I'm not really a fan of the MC personality. She is so arrogant for some who supposedly had been a general.

She thinks too highly of herself and her skills. Of course, the author allows her to win all the time. She also is s*upid and doesn't understand how much attention she is drawing to herself considering her background. There is no way that she a new recruit would have so much knowledge right off the bat. She doesn't even try to play it safe and keep her identity a secret. She openly challenges people unnecessarily, drawing attention to herself and making herself seen by people. So far, I'm just not liking her.

This is "The Best" gender bender.

There are lots of stories, some have fantastic beginnings and other have good happy endings. Now a days there are very few stories with stable pace and considerate author.

The pace and events never fell short on anything. I kept reading and dreading that I am going to read some type of blunder next, that the action might be rushed or characters might not be given light. But no. It only made my reading experience fulfilling and I feel satiated.

A runaway youth entering the army, but the catch is that she is a girl. But the thing is she is more at ease being a man. And this whole story revolves around why she is at ease being a man.

The romantic angle was steady too, felt a bit routinely. A typical devoted and cold blooded ML who only has MC in his eyes. But the beauty is the balance. There is a balance in the power. Both are equally famous, equally powerful and equally in love and equally devoted.

I loved the war strategies and the way they were presented, I didn't felt it to be boring in the least. There was never a page where I felt that the story is dragging. It was feast to read it.

Before reading this my fav was " Its hard to be a man" transmigration story with gender bending MC. But in that MC was too over powered. And it only occurred to me after reading this one. That story has its own place, I still like that but now my number one is this one.

Worthy read. Don't hesitate to read it. Mtl is not hard to read as well. Read it. <<less

This novel sat on my reading list for the longest time as I waited for the translation to be completed. Now that I’ve finished it, I’m so grateful for the amazing translation that finally allowed me to experience this story!

The author’s writing style here is completely different from her previous work (The Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage), but overall, it was a compelling read. I particularly loved the exhilarating battlefield scenes and the strong, overpowered female general protagonist. The dynamic between He Yan and Xiao Jue was... more>> delightful—especially the way the MC secretly refers to the ML as "the moon." Their interactions, both in her past life and present, had me gushing multiple times! The MC herself is wonderfully complex, embodying contradictions that make her feel truly human. And that climactic moment when the ML discovers her real identity? Heart-wrenching. I cried.

That said, a few aspects left me unsatisfied:

  • The Forgotten Baby Subplot: Early on, the MC is devastated by the loss of her child... and then it’s never mentioned again. A single chapter of grief felt insufficient for such a significant trauma.
  • Unfulfilled Revenge: Despite her second chance and OP skills, her revenge arc fell short. Almost everyone she cared about in her past life—her Fu Yue army brothers, her master, her mother—still met tragic ends. While realism can be brutal, it made her rebirth feel bittersweet in a way that bordered on cruel.
  • The Youhua Fairy Subplot: This section nearly lost me. It dragged at first, and I only persevered because of the author’s note hinting at its importance. While it did pay off later, the pacing could have been tighter.
  • Battlefield Losses: I understand that war is merciless, and losing characters makes the story more realistic—but that didn’t make it any less painful to read. Yan He’s fate and Xia ChengXiu’s suffering absolutely wrecked me.

what I like

    • MC doesn't have cheats. Her skills are earned, she ain't a genius or too scheming but determined, hardworking and kind of a street smart girl who is witty, has perfect comebacks, laugh at her own scars. She isn't mary sue.

      intj pair. A true tsundere. He's not perfect yeah but the way he notices everything about MC without much explanation and he's so understanding of her just not with men lol.

I avoid romance novels these days but this heals me. The way ML found out about her is also consistent with his character. Also less kiss scene make it more organic.     • I like how author doesn't write about mc's looks all the time because she is cross dressing most of the time and it feels really odd to describe how her skin is snow white or lips too soft and juicy bla bla even after ML found out about her. Author kept it to a minimum describing her looks. Her strength lies in her character and describing her looks too much would overshadow it and make her looked mary sue. So I like the author for it.

This book had an amazing premise, and I was disappointed that didn't meet my expectations. It had a great start. I could ignore some minor problems with it, but it was over all enjoyable. The biggest problem is that the main character is only strong in her title and not in her actions. She is often s*upid, you wonder how she became general in the previous life. The main love interest is infuriating by his constant presence in scenes he should not be in and being in the spotlight when... more>> it should have been the main character's big moment. It was frustrating to read how main character couldn't solve anything without his presence there. The whole climax, the revenge, is quite unsatisfying because of it, the main character wasn't the attention. I must admit, I don't like their romance, I truly think it's horrendous because of their lack of communication and trust between them. The whole novel felt flat with erasure of complexity of side characters, they could not be kind to main character in the previous life, it always had to be the kindness of the main male character. Moreover, the book is pointlessly long, filled with the unnecessary side plots and it ends with unnecessary side plot. After the main point, the revenge, everything after that (that is like 40 chapters left), I really didn't like the whole 'who will sit on the throne' plot, made it seem like the revenge wasn't the main point of the story. I hate read it those last cca 40 chapters just because I didn't want to left it uncompleted, even read the MTL just how much I hated it and wanted to be over with this soon. The only good thing about this novel is the relationship between main character and her mother. And props to the translator for doing an amazing job with translation. <<less

The beginning of the story was very good. FL is strong and determined while ML is cold and stern. I liked the main leads a lot and was very interested in the progression of their relationship. However, I couldn’t continue looking past FL’s dumb decisions and ML’s ridiculous indulgence.

I mainly disliked how FL continued seeking out a friendship with SML despite everyone around her advising her against it. It was very obvious that SML was only sticking around to make things difficult for ML. Yet, FL continued to socialize with him with a mindset of “Well, he looks really nice and he treats me well so there’s no way he could have bad intentions.” What??

At this point, SML was already inciting discord between the main leads and other main characters yet, for some reason, FL was completely blind to it.

FL completely lost me when she decided to desert from the military post to join a war. Logically speaking, this made absolutely no sense. What was more frustrating was that ML didn’t blame her at all. He actually followed her out to war and supported her. What??? He’s her commander and she, as his soldier, deserted her position yet rather than punishing her, he supports her? The same man that’s known for beheading all deserters?

I'm quite disappointed with the MC. It has been stated that MC has been a general quite on par with ML in her past life, but it doesn't show at all. No wonder she was schemed and died, because she isn't really smart despite being a general. She's like all brawn, no brain. Even after being betrayed, she still hasn't learn anything and is still very careless. Her senses are sharp, but it stops there. Being a general is not only being able to fight physically, but also to think strategically and analyze human heart. I truly, wholeheartedly love this. The main character, Heyan is undoubtedly one of the best female leads. She’s strong, loyal, smart and lovely. I just love, love reading about her. I adore the ML Xiao Jin too. He’s very sensible if u think about it. I also love both of their families. Especially her little brother.

So far, it's pretty good read. But a major but here, our MC is surprising naive in her revenge scheme. I mean considering what she has experience and she was general. I expected more from her. Also ML is a major crush. He's nice, smart, scheming and loving toward our Mac (sometimes he like to tease her).

I just finished the whole story. I really the extra chapters. Especially, yan and his wife story.

I really enjoyed this one. Even MTL wasn’t too bad, though I’m sure I missed a lot of details. The author seems to emphasize the strength of women despite their disadvantages. They often plot very carefully and are stronger mentally than the men realize, sometimes manipulating events carefully.

The author also does not shy away from killing off characters. The ending bonus story was a little bittersweet, and I really wished better endings for a few characters.

Read it!!! I like the MC and the ML so much. This is primarily an action/revenge story I'd say (and very satisfying at that) while the romance develops very naturally, gradually and slowly. So while there are moments with romantic potential from the beginning, they are mostly subtle and the relationship really starts developing in the last third of the novel (and even then it's not completely at the forefront, but that would defeat the purpose of the premise anyways). But! The romance is present and strong but not in... more>> the obvious form we mostly see; if you look at how they treat eachother and what they do for eachother you see how much they care and for the other person, it's just that they don't say it out loud all the time.

The MC is strong, mentally and (after hard work) physically. She's smart and experienced when it comes to fighting etc., as expected of a general. She's not a maiden in distress, she not only saves herself but others as well, constantly. Sometimes the ML helps her out, but the confidence she exudes makes you think that she would have solved the situation herself somehow, even without assistance. The ML respects her and has trust in her skills, he knows she can take care of herself and isn't controlling; he supports what she does and encourages her.

This novel is realistic in that:

- they both don't fall in love at first sight (which makes the moment the romance really takes off even more satisfying)

-the ML suspects her (as a spy) after noticing her extremely good skills (she's young and supposed to be a recruit, new to fighting. So it is indeed suspicious)

- the MCs past doesn't get sweeped unter the rug, rather it plays a big role

- the MC is not completely omnipotent, but just enough to make reading fun

- not everything always goes as planned

We do see that she has sustained trauma from her past experiences, some of her habits/behaviors/views are just so ingrained that it's hard to change, but the ML suppors, helps and cares for her so her situation improves, but there are some character traits that stay, which is realistic.

I do wish that there were some more casual romantic moments since I just love both of them together so much, but well. I smiled and laughed a lot, some parts of the novel were unexpected; when big things happened it was a snowball effect and even bigger things happened back to back, these moments were so fun and satisfying. I also cried a lot. I feel sorry for the MC and ML and some of the side characters. It really hooks you and doesn't let go, making you feel every possible emotion you can think of. All in all I recommend this! <<less
