ONE OF MY FAVORITE NOVELS!

TL;DR :

if you like the following then this novel is for you:

    • brainy submissive male lead (and I MEAN SUBMISSIVE)
    • strong dominant female lead
    • A war arc
    • ML and FL obsessed with each other
    • Villainous ML and FL but still vulnerable towards each other
    • Female lead solely relying on her power and climbing her way at the top.
    • No superdumb cannon fodders
    • Great pacing
    • Spice but not too spicy
The story is like a breath of fresh air. All of the characters served purpose to the story. There isn't any brain dead cannon fodders that's so obviously a villain who comes looking for death. At some point even those main villain (s) had their own reasons, and as an empath, it felt as if everyone in the book was real HAHA You'll see everyone's side, what their aim, goals, and even their hearts that may or may not make you feel as if faith was the only one to blame for their misfortunes (but ofc it's not). However, there's a couple of airheads that made me laugh out loud because of either their : audacity, pride, or dumbness. From the start, middle, to end, I was hooked! And that's coming from a person who just leaves reading something if it's not very interesting. Pacing is great as well, their romance wasn't that rush nor did it drag on, even the war or the scheming scenes in the palace was carefully written by the author. Even FL having a second chance in life didn't make her immediately an OP, almost forgot that it was actually FL's second life. She underwent struggles and solely relied on her abilities. It felt so right, not like those other rebirth MCs who's suddenly so great at something or being granted a golden finger and it's because of that golden finger can they succeed.

Now to the FL and ML. Their dynamic is so good!

FL's cold demeanor doesn't come from nowhere nor was it cringe and forced. ML's merciless attitude also blended well with his love for the FL. They're absolutely obsessed with each other and would do anything for each other. Author also showed them being vulnerable with each other to the point that they

crieddd in front of one another! I absolutely even loved the part where Lin Qing was airing his grievances to the crown prince while Zimu was at his side. He full on broke down and let out his feelings, asking his enemy what he did wrong to earn his hatred

This didn't have the cliche "I am a eunuch and everyone thought my private part had been cut off but no, I still have it" My man is a real eunuch and this story gave such a justice. Eunuch's deserves love too

What made this dynamic work is how Zimu was like so open minded. Comment Sec and even I thought she's actually BI/Pan. In bed, although it wasn't that graphic, the author had written scenes where FL is the top most of the time while ML just lays there for her. It was clear that the castration included everything and I was so curious so I searched and just as I thought It was almost the same as for transitioning from male to female. So, iykyk what happens in the bed.

It’s good. Eunuchs deserve love too. I like stories about damaged people coming together and learning how to trust and love and comfort each other. Relationships that require people to use their words and be a little vulnerable and brave, despite being broken from the way the world has treated them.

The ML is the go-to guy for getting stuff done around the palace, so of course everyone is afraid of him and nasty to him both behind his back and to his face. And to be able to survive, he... more>> has gotten just as conniving as everyone else. Even though he gets all the work done, people still sneer at him for being a eunuch.

Some folks in the reviews don’t like the ML, but I appreciate that, unlike the ruthless CEOs from other novels, he is nasty in his work life but a soft boi in his personal life. Just because you are tough at work doesn’t mean you have to treat your loved one bad, yo!

Both characters are just people who lived without love their whole lives. MC is tough and cold, but she goes all-in early because she is reborn and knows how ML feels for certain—she saw it. He still has to work through some shame and body issues, and doesn’t have the luxury of 100% certainty that the MC isn’t playing games.

If you want a story that has SUPER MANLY DUBCON COLD CEO and SOFT SWEET DUMB LADY then this is not for you. Everyone in the real world is already a mix of traditionally masculine and feminine traits anyway. <<less

If you love General is above, I am below, I highly recommend you this novel.

Our MC is a very strong, cold and gentle martial artist. Her image is very similar to the one of MC in GAIB. She is more of a cold and handsome yet gentle husband type in other C-novel while ML is the one doted on (a cute little wife type).

Unlike Ye Zhao, she didn’t start off as a general. She was one of ML’s beauty but later

join the army and become a general. The only thing that doesn’t make much sense when I MTL is that I don’t really understand how she falls in with ML (She said he had saved her life. The details seem to be missing Idk maybe it’s because of the MTL.)

Our ML, Lord Jiu Qian Sui (9000; which means he is the second only to the emperor) is an eunuch who is surrounded by lots of beauty but never falls in love with any of them since non of them really love him. He is a very powerful politician, a trusted confidant of the emperor. After MC is reborn and make a move on him, he slowly open up to her (And is very jealous). Their relationship is very healing. My soft boii.

I don’t feel like spoiling it...

Rating 4 stars. But it is enjoyable, the I like the concept so, I gave it 5 stars

We stan sexually proactive women in here. We rarely see stories with women who are sexually active (and unashamed of their desire) without being sexualized, objectified, or punished in the narrative. And I like that. You go, girl! Express your sexuality!! You are both adults who mutually consented. Enjoy your s*x life!!

An apathetic woman and a man with deep-rooted insecurity, having each other as their emotional anchor. They are both capable of standing... more>> on their own and can manage their own problems. They cannot live without each other, not because they are weak, but because they could care less about their lives. I like their relationship.

The translation is meh. But I like the notes---very helpful. <<less

True eunuch ML, domineering MC, equal relationship.

Both characters stay true to themselves to the very end, even if they devote all their heart and gentleness to the other, they never stray from their characters. To others, ML is cruel, ruthless and calculative, MC is cold, ruthless and indifferent.

ML psychology is realistic, he is paranoid, insecure and often involuntarily questions the MCs love, but there are no misunderstandings between them. Each time MC will act decisively to show him.

Even if the MC likes to use a straightforward approach to problems, she... more>> isn't any less cunning then the ML. He calculates her, she calculates him, they both know what the other is doing and they both know who the other person is when they got together. No deception, no misunderstandings, probably the purest dark emotions.

Every time the MC soothes the MLs inferiority it feels warm and comforting, MC is very much the reliable type who give people a strong feeling of security. ML isn't squemish, nor does he turn useless after getting together with the MC, ML is still Lord Jiu Qian Sui, just with someone he wants to protect who loves him.

The other characters are reasonably well written though some are annoying they are very realistic. Every character evidences the 'no one is entirely good or evil' philosophy, just look at the MC and ML, they are good to each other but ruthless or evil to others, especially the ML, who is just doing what he needs to to survive but is discriminated against and hated, so he had to use stronger methods.

Other examples would be the 7th Princess who fell in 'love' with the MC's male disguise. I say 'love' because it was more of an obsession, I feel the MCs male disguise appeared to her as a last chance of salvation to escape from being married off to the Xiongnu, he met her fantasy of someone strong, handsome and unique (in that the MC didnt treat her as a princess) who could sweep her off her feet and rescue her from despair. This princess is someone who is naive and ignorant, who didn't understand until it was too late that there was a price to be paid for the privilieges she has as a royal. Her fate was tragic, though she became an 'enemy' to the MC and ML.

The 5th Prince is also someone who would be a typical minor antagonist to the MC and ML. He, like his sister, eventually fell in love with the MCs male disguise (MC rarely appears as a female in the latter half of the story). He is not an ambitious prince, rather he prefers life as a General in war then fighting against his older brothers for the throne. Even if he has acted against the ML, he isn't an unreasonable, brainless villain.

The main villain of this story is the Crown Prince (no surprise) but even he isnt truly evil. He is just the rightful heir to the throne whose power is threatened by the ML. Even if he is the villain, he is still the most talented prince among jis brothers and most suited to be emperor. Even the 8th Prince who eventually became the Crown Prince after his death with the support of the ML and MC can only be said to be average. He isn't especially ruthless, he did care for his siblings to a degree, and only fought against his father in the end because he was drivem to th corner. He was calculated by the ML to the point that if he didnt rebel, only death and disgrace awaited him. In the end, he also allowed his uncle to escape being grouped with him to death when the rebellion failed. He isn't a tyrant, rather even the ML would agree he would have been a wise Emperor. It just happened that the grievances between him and the ML are too deep, if he succeeded ascending the throne like in the MCs previous life, the ML and MC are doomed.

Lastly, while not every part of the novel is realistic (for example, the MC treating any of the Imperial children disrespectfully shouldn't be so easy to gloss over, or even the MCs strength is pretty much he gold finger) the novel is a good blend of realistic and non-realistic elements. I doubt you will notice it.

Overall this is an amazing novel, a great read for someone who likes a strong MC and fluff in the form of the MC spoiling the ML. <<less

There's actually someone who fall in love with a eunuch. And turns out, even a eunuch have desire towards woman.

Very different and also complicated indeed. I don't want to imagine their intimate scenes...

Taste like yuri, but not yuri. Taste like yaoi but also not at all. In short I can't discern what the taste anymore.

I am very happy with this novel.

The FL was reborn - wanting to love and repay the ML from the protection that he gave her in the past. Court, Country, War and Love - paving a way for their peaceful future together.

The roles of the typical leads are reversed.

... more>> The FL is strong and calm yet gentle. She's not shy when it comes to the things that she want (*ehem* bed). She's also not one that can be controlled. (Yay! For STRONG AND INDEPENDENT WOMAN)

The ML is a eunuch, a bit weak in physique compared to the FL but not useless. He has power in court.

All in all, I had a great time reading the novel. I truly admire their tenacity and loyalty to each other. Also, the schemes, the strategies, and the wits, truly never a dull moment.

Also, this is the first wherein you'd find an ML who's a eunuch and was able to be happy in life. And an FL who was never dissatisfied with their kind of lifestyle.

Because, honestly, they usually find a way to heal the ML from their disabilities. It's a refreshing intake to have one that despite being eunuch, he lived a good life in the end. It's not pitiful that the ML was a eunuch because the FL truly didn't mind. She just continued to love him for what he has. <<less

The ML scares me a little bit from how ruthless he is with other people, but hoooooo boy did he melt like butter from the FL's advances. Straightforward FLs, that's the sh*t I like ?

Went into this with 0 expectation, got mindblown at ch1, had a lot of fun, then bam progressively slid into are you f*cking with me right now territory.

So to explain, 10 out of 13 for the rp dynamic, the pegging, tho the spice was more like decorative rosemary than actual spice, was a great and awesome choice, but the progress into pathological was disappointing and thus cost it full points. Saw comments about her never being on the receiving end of pleasure, but the way I read it is her... more>> not actually wanting to be? Like, there's people who just like touching others and not being touched in that way at all, which is also how I read her 'you can do things to me in the next life' as a soft rejection and establishment of boundaries.

On to the plot which is truly, a plot, it was all well and good until we got to the unconcealed racism and Han superiority, which is not that rare and actually very much the opposite, so there was still no way to tell where this would lead. And boy did it lead places.

So making it an everybody-is-in-love-with-MC kind of story was a meh direction but still overlookable. Giving us disciple bg charas than vanishing them completely

was a star off the final score -and that with the rest of small plot holes I won't go into detail about- which by that point I still thought was going to be a 4*.

For some reason the author then went on to make mass r*pe and other war crimes something NEUTRAL and acceptable, not only that but directly approved of and encouraged by MC and even ordered by her, now that was the part I just lost all left over excitement for this novel. That was not even the end of it, the story went from a mysteriously behaved concubine and into war and a whole lot of even more racism and a lot of nonsense about how wars generally work -none of it in any way shape or form close to being half a gram factually true or even logical and 100% based off a modern person's shallow ideas of war- but the sheer amount of r*pe apologia, victim blaming and disdain for them being unable to just bear with and even accepting of the ab*se they suffer was staggering. And in the end that whole arc turned out to be worse than useless

cause the separation hadn't shaped the outcome in any way, I mean sure MC 'turned the war into a winable endeavor' for the empire, but that in itself is laughable because both sides of it are just so badly thought out that it's so obvious that whole conflict only exist for the MC to show herself off and it doesn't even really impact the ML or the ship or have anything to do with the MC's desire to avoid the bad end and help out ML? Which is? The reason? She joined it?

The servant girl goes from cute to annoying to wtf was her her character for even? By the end, with her acting like her skull is in lack of a brain, then losing even the one thing her character was based on, her obsession with the MC.

To be quite honest I wanted to give it 1* cause you can't go lower, but due to the sheer rarity of pegging in novels, AKA the first I see it in a novel, I have decided on giving it 2*. As for the people who give it high scores, tbo it's not like I don't understand them, it's just that I can't overlook the things I notice after I notice them, and I'm aware most people won't notice, but that some people who do notice will be pretty upset with some of the things present in the narrative. <<less

Honestly, I really like the concept of this novel because often times, we forget that eunuchs are humans too. They also have feelings and emotions and are capable of love, but eunuchs are always written off as background characters. They are never the protagonist of the story, and only serve to illustrate and cement a story's setting in ancient China. If I had read this novel before reading "I Married an Exasperating Eunuch, " I probably would have rated this novel higher.

However, coming from "I Married an Exasperating Eunuch, "... more>> I can only say that this novel has been disappointing. Here are some of the reasons why:

Number 1: This novel is basically "Overbearing CEO Falls in Love With Me" mashed with "Mary Sue" EXCEPT the CEO and Mary Sue are the same character (≖_≖)

I understand that this novel was trying to be creative by reversing the male and female roles and making the female lead the more dominant one in the relationship but it honestly falls flat. I absolutely can't stand the "overbearing CEO" type of character and making this character the female lead doesn't change my dislike. It still comes off as greasy with a hint of questionable consent (ㆆ_ㆆ)

Furthermore, how is it that literally EVERYONE falls in love with the female lead? I get that she's badass and whatnot but how does literally THREE members (2 guys and 1 gal) of the royal family fall in love with her?? There was never any meaningful conversation or events to have induced this attraction yet here we have it. FL is cold to basically anyone that isn't the person she's in love with and her maid. PEOPLE DO NOT FALL IN LOVE WITH ICE CUBES. ESPECIALLY ICE CUBES WE'VE ONLY MET THREE TIMES (spoiler?)

Number 2: Everyone is two dimensional. You, as a reader, are the only one living in the 3D universe (ノಠ益ಠ) ノ

Basically every character kinda falls flat? Practically every character in this novel is a caricature of a trope, rather than actual believable people with their own dreams and motivations. We don't get to learn more about the characters that ML and FL meets and thus, we don't care about any of them. This prevents the readers from getting invested in the story.

Number 3: FL is so OP that she probably doesn't even know how failure is spelt.

Also FL knows martial arts and is so OP that she wins multiple battles. Just. Like. That. She's young and yet somehow is able to lead her own troop and defeat this enemy that has been bothering their country since forever. It's easy peasy stuff. Literally no sweat (≖_≖)

Number 4: I, as the character, will tell you, the reader, what I'm feeling. No need to read in between the lines٩ (˘◡˘) ۶

Basically throughout the novel, there is a lot of "I'll tell you what I'm feeling" rather than the readers figure out what the characters are feeling. Literally, everything is so explicit that there's really no room for interpretation. And this is one of the worst ways to tell a story. I keep hearing the characters say how much they love each other that I am absolutely sick of it. The whole story through, you're just force-fed all this "I love you" stuff BUT YOU LITERALLY DON'T KNOW WHY. THEY ALREADY LOVE EACH OTHER FROM THE START BASICALLY. You get this snippet about what happened in FL's past life but it honestly isn't enough to build up to the passionate love that happens after.

Anyway, sorry that I got kinda heated during my review but it's residual anger from the wasted potential of this novel. Also the fact that I read the entire thing because I just wanted to see if it gets better (it doesn't) ಥ_ಥ Go read "I Married an Exasperating Eunuch." Similar to I Married an Exasperating Eunuch but I like this one better!

Lord Qiansui has a huge gap moe and I love reading MC subtly dominating him while still fluffing up his pride and self confidence 🤭 Reading his thoughts is pretty amusing and I love the little insights from his pov

Translations are pretty good! Just occasional typos and similar word misplacements (using "safe" instead of "save", etc) but definitely easy to read! Time to continue reading~ Thank you for your hard work, translator ٩ (๑･ิᴗ･ิ) ۶٩ (･ิᴗ･ิ๑) ۶

Another great Ancient China novel.. Love the FL is very dominant over ML... ML is a eunuch, a TRUE eunuch so yeah think about that *wink*

Novel is very detailed with portaying the feelings and emotions of the character. The scenese are written tastefully and I love how intense these two are. I think this novel has depth and characters are not 2D. Really found this enjoyable and will say this is a GEM!

So far so good!! I'm looking forward to seeing how the relationship develops between the leads. I like how the relationship dynamics are reverse, in that the FL is more dominate and aggressive in her pursuit of the ML. It's a breath of fresh air, especially for someone who reads as much romance as I do.

I had to quit this so close to the end because I couldn't stand the side characters anymore. Read further to see how little girls buttocks feature in this novel.

Besides that the relationship was very one sided. The FL was pleasuring the ML while she made it very clear he needed a pen*s to do the same for her (she literally says "you'll reward me in your next life when you're whole" umm what??). It is hinted that she enjoys their encounters because she starts to breathe heavily, but it... more>> never goes further than that. She never even m*sturbates at the same time he does, she never lets him use his mouth on her etc She just keeps talking about when he'll have a penis, in his next life. Huge turn off.

The ML is great btw. I wish there were better novels with similar themes.

But the reason why I quit it was a particular side kick who was getting more and more screen time. The FL has a young girl servant who always gets into trouble and gets the FL into trouble. For example, the FL goes off to fight someone. The sidekick hears about it and rushes into the enemy territory a few days later, alone. "Because miss is there!" Repeat 100x Every single instance of her appearing on the page is annoying af

And why doesn't she get punished? Because the FL has a crush on her. Seriously. There is a scene where this girl sits in the FL's lap for no reason and rubs her hear on FL's chest. FL enjoys it and then thinks about how she's enjoying the little girl's buttocks quivering in her lap. That was disgusting to read and I don't know about you, but when I'm reading a romance novel I don't want little girl butts to be featured anywhere near it. Just gross. I wanted to forget about it, but I remembered it every time the sidekick made an appearance (way too often!)

Conclusion: ML is great. FL likes little girls and penis, in that order. Only read if you're into that kind of stuff. <<less

Its not bad but its not good either.

FL is overpowered, the antagonists and s*upid and fall to easily for to FL. The ML is a wuss what can't let go of his almost non existing power (without the emperor's backing his nothing more as a walking carcass)

I'm giving this 4 stars because I really don't see the point in giving a bad star score if the reason I don't like something is because it hits on my personal squicks.

What squick is that, you may ask? Harem. Untagged harem bullshit. I'm of the personal opinion that non-s*xual intimacy with multiple women that the ML deems as beautiful and that are considered his concubines. Is. A. HAREM. He would've f*cked them if he had a dick!

I tried to keep reading despite my initial hesitancy because I rechecked reviews... more>> and didn't see any mention of the harem (on the first page) and I took that to imply that it disappears quickly. Instead I ended up reading until a scene of one of ML's 'beauties' feeding him grapes, he has MC called to serve him because the girl serving him just doesn't make him feel as good as MC, continues letting this other girl feed him grapes, and his entire intent was to... make MC jealous??? She kisses him, he sends everyone away, blah, blah, blah, I quit. I have no idea what chapter I was even on, I closed it so fast.

I wouldn't have looked twice at this story if it had had a harem tag and I think it should even if the endgame somehow disbands the harem. Things should be tagged even if they only happen once.

Also there were mentions of ML being jealous of MC having a good relationship with the other girls in the harem. So. I imagine he's one of those MLs that would get jealous of his own children if he could have any.

Give me a strong female MC that doesn't feel the need to lower herself to a jealous and immature man-child out of some misguided obligation to a past kindness. (I don't think I'd dislike the ML if it wasn't for the harem. I'm just annoyed and wanting to nitpick.) <<less

One of the most interesting Ancient China romance novels I have read!

MC: a concubine with overpowered martial arts

ML: an eunuch (yes, actually castrated), the Emperor's most trusted servant with immense power

The roles of the MC and ML are reversed. The MC is the one with strong martial arts that protects the ML and is also the hooligan/ruffian in the relationship that initiatives flirtatious gestures. The ML is the one with a pampered and noble body that is almost always pressed under the MC. As noted above, the ML is an... more>> eunuch, so the intimate aspects mirror the aspects in a homos*xual relationship. This is one of the unique aspects about this novel. There is rarely any novels that display the romance between an eunuch and any character, so I applaud the author for trying something new.

Overall:

Even through the political intrigue is relatively cliche with many annoying side characters, I really appreciate the relationship of the MC and ML. There is little to no misunderstandings between the MC and ML plus they both know how to communicate! Communication is rare in Ancient China novels, so I am delighted to see communication between the main couple. <<less

To put it bluntly, I was just very curious to see the relationship dynamic. Because come on, a eunuch & a female MC? I don't think I've read eunuch-MC stories without them being BL, so to say I was extremely intrigued wasn't an understatement.

But it was REALLY good.

For one, our heroine is incredibly badass. She's basically a female version of the archetypical male character I enjoy- cold, apathetic, but will devote the entirety of his/her life & soul to the person he/she loves. I think we all have a... more>> soft spot for these types of characters tbh. Unlike other josei stories that claim to have a "strong female protagonist" only to have her bum saved by the OP male lead, our heroine in Qiansui is AWESOME. She honestly doesn't rely on the male lead; if anything, it's him that gets saved by her! It's pretty refreshing to read about a couple dynamic who has the power balance lean towards the female, especially in Ancient China (because come on, it's sexist China after all). So you can guess how the power play reflects during seggsy time... cough.

Our male lead is also interesting. He has a bad rep, everyone wants to kill him, and he pretty much has resigned to his fate of being despised. But after meeting MC, he finds himself battling his insecurities, loneliness, and the despair of having loved someone who ought to have a happier life without him but instead chooses to stay. It's incredibly bittersweet to go through his thought processes & he honestly cherishes MC as she is the only one who genuinely loves him, flaws & all. Before she was reborn, MC didn't have a purpose in life & merely survived without having attachments to anything. Seeing that in her past life, ML was the only one who regarded her as more important than his own life, she grew to have feelings for him. THESE TWO MAKE ME WANT TO SMOTHER THEM WITH HUGS AHHHHH!

I came to this novel just to sate my terrible curiosity but instead I got a lesson on love. How love transcends status, flaws, death even. Despite many obstacles, jeers from both ends, temptation, the main CP remains resolute & loyal to each other. It breaks my heart to see how the male lead was treated throughout this entire novel. But I felt that it was pretty realistic because technically idiots do exist. I thought the reactions & behaviors weren't too far from reality because power, status, & gossip can lead to very idiotic & muddleheaded losers. Not everyone will adore the main CP though, so take my words with a grain of salt. I think these two, in spite of their pros, have their share of cons in terms of how they handle each other. But considering their backgrounds, upbringing, & tragic experiences, I am not surprised they're imperfect. However, it still works. They both bring to the table something the other doesn't have.

TL;DR Not your conventional couple; true love triumphs all; yes she pegs him hahahahhaha <<less

I like strong female protagonist that doesn't always rely on the main guy to save her from everything. How ever I do also like to have a strong ML too.

So I'm giving this novel a 2 star cause I don't find the ML attractive cause he's a bit too weak for me and I also don't like how he is a eunuch who is supposed to be mighty but he really isn't. Also hate how he is somewhat distrustful of MC.

I wanna cry... so I'll cry. I felt so empty when I finished this novel, it was so beautiful. The love Zhao Zimu and Jiu Qiansui had for each other made me crave the feeling. What does it feel like to love someone? To love them so much that there's a lingering fear in your heart that you might lose them? What does it feel like to love someone so much that you would sacrifice the world for you to be together? I loved seeing there love blossom into one... more>> that could shake the earth. They were such a strong couple. The love Qiansui had for Zimu made my heart itch. Every time I would read of his insecurities I'd wanna go give him a big fat hug. Author San~ pls give me a chance to meet Zimu. She's one of the strongest female leads I've ever read about. Definitely somewhere in the top. If you're wondering whether you should read this..... heck yeah! You should! Drop whatever you're holding right now and go read it. You're gonna be so protective of our cute Eunuch. If you're looking for a male lead who gives off "touch her and I'll kill you" vibes, then you're definitely looking for the right book. If you're looking for a female lead who also gives off "touch him and I'll kill you" vibes then yes! You're looking at the right book. It seems the roles are switched in this book.
