Everyone said that Wei Yuntai, the heir of the Marquis of Ningguo, was a gentleman of noble character. Minghua always found this amusing because they didn’t know that this gentleman directed all his harshness towards her, his original wife. Her only mistake was not asking more questions when the marriage was arranged. Who would have thought that the person Wei Yuntai admired and proposed to was actually her sickly twin sister?

Later, she grew tired—tired of Wei Yuntai’s constant coldness, tired of her sister’s pained expression, and tired of her parents’ helpless yet heartbroken looks. Three months after their divorce, her sister married into the Wei family, and she was slandered as the villain who stole her sister’s marriage by impersonation.

She moved to a villa outside the city and met a handsome neighbor who came to recuperate. They saw each other daily and eventually became a couple.

Wei Yuntai thought he hated Lu Minghua, believing she was scheming and deceitful. But when he married Mingxi and saw the mansion decorated in red, he felt a sudden emptiness. At a spring banquet, seeing Lu Minghua smiling warmly at Prince Rui, he accidentally dropped his jade ornament. Once, those eyes only had him in them. He regretted it.

Prince Rui, Yan Yuanhua, the emperor’s younger brother, was carefree and laid-back. His most steadfast commitment was to ensure his brother’s throne’s stability. He even went to the border to guard it, returning with injuries. He went to the villa outside the city to recuperate and met Lu Minghua. Thus, he had a second commitment: he wanted to marry her.

Really quite nice story about creating a new life after a failed marriage but by 65 or so it’s just a love fest. Too much! I’m really enjoying the extra chapters. I could swear the FL did have some foreknowledge of her marriage because she keeps saying “just another month.” It tells you a lot that I didn’t think it’s worth going back to figure this out.

4/5 but doing 5 to help boost the rating

To liappletree’s review: this is not a rebirth story. Idk where you got the idea that it was.

To Eeria’s review: it’s not supposed to be a faithful representation of ancient China. In a translated author’s note, they addressed this saying they knew it wasn’t a faithful representation. It’s loosely based on it and just wanted to focus on writing a happy ending for FL.

All of this to say, this story is slightly different in that it’s not a rebirth focused on revenge... more>> like the summary might imply. Rather, it’s a story about healing from your traumas and learning to trust and love others (and yourself) again. Think of it as a modern trauma healing story set in ancient China. FL might have seemed aloof and detached but that was a defense mechanism she developed after being letdown so many times. One of her ab*sers literally did things just to be able to get a rise out of her. She learned how to cry softly so as to not inconvenience others. She constantly apologizes and makes sure she never owes anyone anything. She always says she’s fine when she might not be. At one point, when she was asked about her budding relationship with ML and

why she didn’t want to marry him (he told her he wanted to marry her), she literally said it’s so she can’t be hurt and able to leave whenever she wants. Her nanny (and essentially mother) says to her, “if you’re always ready to leave, you can’t expect others to love and be devoted to you” or something along those lines.

[collapse]

the writing is not perfect and there are a couple of loose ends imo. In general tho, this is a feel good read with a focus on trauma healing. Also the political fight is already over by the time of the story start. <<less

It’s a 3.5

i didn’t get to read the extras. I liked the story although found the FL too kind. She had such a tragic story. It wasn’t very faithful to how woman in ancient China lived. This universe the rules were much more looser. I liked the ML devotion.

5/10 As someone who’s read tons of rebirth stories, this one just didn’t make the cut. It felt boring and way too predictable. I found myself skimming most of it, and honestly, I forgot what it was even about the moment I finished. Nothing really stood out.
