What would you do with a second life in a fictional world?

A system offered Li Li another chance after she died of overwork. She would be able to travel freely between a popular manhua at night and the real world during the day.

However, if her character in the manhua wasn’t popular enough at any point, she would die for real.

Li Li pondered for a moment.

Then she nodded and asked the system:

‘Do you guys support facial customization?’

She wanted a handsome face this time!

A ‘phantom’ without a past suddenly appeared in the superpowered society where strength triumphed over all.

‘He’ was the avenger consumed by deep resentment and hatred; a stubborn, paranoid lunatic.

‘He’ used smiles to disguise his intentions and falsehoods to conceal the truth.

‘He’ appeared proud and unfettered, but no one could perceive the solitude consuming ‘his’ inner world

The readers shed countless tears for him, creating mountains of fanfics, fanart and AUs to try and move the world to his plight.

Yet in the eyes of the manhua denizens, this lunatic of a powerhouse was synonymous with sin.

Manhua denizens: He’s experienced tragedy? Don’t make me laugh!

“*sobs* My bias is so tragic!!!” The roommate blubbered as she read the latest update.

‘Her bias’, aka Li Li, just chuckled. “Poor you. Want a cup of bubble tea?”

“Yes!” The roommate hiccuped.

No CP.

From the beginning, I really enjoyed the novel, and this led me to mtling it all the way to the end. I love the MC's personas and all the other characters. This novel has just the right amount of angst with comedy, and the plot is very interesting. If anyone's too lazy to mtl themselves, I have a google folder with the remaining chapters translated. You can access it through my discord (Invite code: sFdg94SJRh).

I read the original on jjwxc and I really did enjoy the whole journey. I might have been biased due to it being my first novel with the whole meta element with the forums and such and not to mention this being quite a while ago, but I found myself really enjoying the whole series.

The MC is a great character. She's someone that acts pretty rationally and I find myself having fun with reading how her actions paid off or what she's planning next and how she plans on achieving... more>> it. Her acting is top tier and she's an MC that you can't help but root for and want to see succeed. The other characters are also great as well and while they are side characters to our MC, they also have their own thoughts and are written pretty decently.

I really did enjoy the element of the MC playing around with her character to really push the novel's audience into believing what she was selling them. The MC's mastery of meta-elements and her using them to her maximum advantage to shape others understanding of her is something that I can't love enough.

The best thing about this novel, imo, is that the author clearly has a story that they want to tell from the start and they do so without dragging on for too long or ending abruptly. Which is refreshing to me seeing as I've read a few too many novels where the story either ends too quickly with lots of plots still left on the table, or continues for a long time while just walking around the main plot of the story. This novel tells the story it wants to, and it ends at just the right time. <<less

Damn, I don’t know if it’s just because I’ve finished reading the ending of A Guide for Background Characters to Survive in a Manga right before this, but it’s so good!!! I feel like it completely healed my delicate disappointed heart and scratched the itch that Guide for Background Characters couldn’t.

Okay, enough dissing (but I’m still salty). Onto the actual review.

First of all, at this point in time the TL has only 5 chapters and I read with machine translation, so I can’t really say anything about translation. All I... more>> can say is that so far it’s been okay. There were a few typos but it wasn’t bad.

As for the plot and characters... OH MY LORD. It’s so good! All the characters were fun and the main casts all had their own personalities that shone through. The MC in particular was really enjoyable to read. She’s smart, powerful, ambitious, and charismatic. Really, if I were one of those manga readers, I would completely fangirl over her too!

Speaking of the manga world, it takes up the majority of the story and plot, but I also think that it’s where the novel shines the best!

Spoiler

I love the beginning when the MC was still weak and had to be clever to maintain her big boss image. And even when her actual power caught up with her outer image, I like how she still used her brain and managed to defeat opponents who had major advantages over her.

I love the way she manipulates everyone (the comic natives, the manga readers, and Libra) and gets what she wants. She’s an absolute psycho (she admits it herself lmao, love a girl that’s self aware) who plays with other people’s emotions, but we love her for it. Honestly, it was so satisfying reading the parts when people would “discover” things about her.

[collapse]

Of course, the parts where she returns to reality are also interesting to read, and her relationship with her roommate is so wholesome (wish I were close with my roommate like that TAT).

Spoiler

The author even made it relevant to the plot, such as keeping the MC anchored to reality/maintaining her mentality. And also being the key to ultimately defeating Libra.

[collapse]

Overall, the beginning, middle, late, and ending were great or at least satisfactory. The extras also manage to bury some plot holes and were really fun to read.

In conclusion, I feel that it’s a very good read. It gives exactly what it says it will give in the synopsis (looking at you Guide for Background Characters) and did it close to perfectly. If you read Guide for Background Characters and were disappointed by the ending (like myself), read this afterwards to help cope and heal. I highly recommend this novel to anyone who wants to read about a person transmigrating into a manga world and gains popularity as a strong, beautiful, and miserable character (that actually isn’t). <<less

I really enjoyed this novel. Read through everything through jjwxc and the ending was really satisfying although a little bittersweet, however the extras make up for it.

Really loved Lili's "acting" in the comic world, and her growth from seeing that world as "not-real" to also finding that world a home to go to.

She really is cool and handsome~

I like the premise and I like the protagonist.

To be honest, it was nicely done.

This is a happy ending. I'm glad the character the protagonist, Li Li plays is just fabricated because just like the fans of the comic have said, it would've been pretty sad, if not, miserable if he was real. The angst would've overflowed the screen.

Also, the extras are just a bit extra and makes me think about what happened after the main storyline. They had a happy ending. The readers of the comic doesn't know about... more>> that though.

Spoiler

By the way, it made me think, after Li Li defeated Libra and became the True God of that world. Would she become immortal? What would happen after all her friends die because of old age? And is the world she is going back and forth with really her real world and the world of the comic? She said once that even in the real world she had powers but couldn't use it because of Libra. So after Libra is dead? Is the world she went through really her world/comic world? Not her powers? The ability to turn false into reality.

This is just my conspiracy theory. But yeah, pretty dark. Let's just say they had a happy ending where this novel ended and their story ended.

[collapse]

I highly recommend this because out of all the novels I finished, this novel didn't left me sad after it's ending. The extras made a buffer of sorts that made me think that the novel might have ended but the story of Li Li messing with the comic world isn't. She's happy and everyone there is happy. And me, the reader? I can read another novel with peace of mind. <<less

Read the entire thing on Google translate. Couldn't get side stories at the end to translate but still one of my favorite novels. The manga storyline the MC enters is interesting enough that I'd probably read it as an actual manga. The forums in the real world often had me actually laughing out loud. The twists are interesting while still giving proper foreshadowing and the characters are often pleasantly distinct even if few get much screen time. The MC is also fun to read about. She's an absolute master of... more>> controlling the flow of the story and letting people feel they discovered her secrets. Overall absolutely recommended and I hope the translation goes quickly so I can enjoy it again more completely. <<less

Sadly, to us all, the updates are very very slow. The novel was surprisingly good, even for male readers- which include I, in a female protag novel. However, though I rated this 5 stars, I don't think it truly is one, but more a 4.5, and likely drop to a 4 in the future as the story prolongs. But regardless, I would give the novel a shot.

These type of tropes have been done many times before, where the MC becomes an unknown character in a manhwa world, there's even some... more>> cases where it plays with needing to make an impression on viewers through the fourth wall of their world in order to survive. This novel does that, but even in a more unique twist. The MC is still alive on Earth, and only transmigrates in the dream world at night. She must need to continue making a Fandom for herself in order to survive in both worlds.

She gains fan points, or something like that, from her character (s) popularity. And she uses those to gain powers and also again, to extend her life as it costs 100 points a day to survive.

I'm kinda lazy rn so I'm gonna skim the rest of the review, but the novel still has weak points. To me the two biggest were, one: the real world, as it lacked a lot of substance other than seeing reader's reactions. And two: the manhwa's protag developments. Perhaps it was to emphasize how much of a manhwa world it was, but the developments the manhwa MC is making doesn't make much sense to me. It is something u kinda just gotta pass along, but regardless, at least to where I've read, pretty entertaining story, though again, the rating would prob drop in the future <<less

The female lead is strong and smart so it's fun to read. I google translated it so the fight seemed slight messy to me but it might just be because of the mtl. I liked how every character had a story or tale of their own. Even a passing by character or a villain soon to be defeated has a backstory so it's kinda engaging and make you feel as though you can imagine a whole world because if it, and also clearly see how superpower has f****d up the... more>> world. The MC is a smart person and there is no romance which is a plus for me. The forums reactions are quite funny and honestly the comic that they made felt so engaging.

Spoiler

When the prophet was revealed and they were fighting honestly I started to feel how much sad the life of Heige was and wanted to shed tears with the forum members but then I remembered that it was LiLi and thought oh well and just laughed.

[collapse]

It has a satisfying end and the side stories gives it a good finishing touch. <<less

Finished this entire novel, this is my review of this:

I like this, BUT I'm pretty sure the author could make this longer, it's okay though since the novel is still pretty good and satisfactory.

MC:

... more>> The MC is not alright in the head (kinda?). She will do ANYTHING just to survive and make her character (s) popular. Very smart and doesn't let herself get fooled.

Side Characters:

They're... Alright I guess..? Not too bad and not too good. I've read a bunch of novels so I have a lot of basis for this. Not as much depth as the MC, but I guess that's a given since this is just below 200 chapters. One of the things I like about them is that they aren't annoying. Good distribution of male and female characters.

The meta forum stuff is the most interesting for me. Love how realistic the readers' reactions are. <<less
