Luo Tangtang was unexpectedly bound by a System!

The System wanted her to transmigrate into an old-fashioned dogblood novel to save the female lead, who was treated as a substitute and tormented and humiliated in every way.

The female lead was exceptionally talented and beautiful, the senior disciple sister of the sect.

But she was treated as a substitute by the master who raised her since childhood, coveted fiercely by the Demon Lord, and drugged by a demon dragon disguised as a sect senior brother. Furthermore, following the events involving the demon dragon, the very junior sister she trusted and had protected since childhood exposed the matter.

Luo Tangtang transmigrated into that junior sister!

Luo Tangtang: “…”

She had intended to save the female lead from dire straits, but alas, she ended up falling into trouble along with the female lead…

Luo Tangtang’s eyes welled up with tears. I don’t care how pretty the female lead is, I’d rather break than bend!

Years later.

Luo Tangtang: “…” It smells so good!

Beneath the mist-shrouded cold pond, she grasped her only salvation.

2/10 (Bad)

A very fragmented and hard to follow romance/interpersonal focused Xianhuan. A lack of focused worldbuilding and very subpar scene establishment makes the story extremely hard to follow, as it feels like it constantly jumps around. A similar phenomenon occurs with the romance, as it can be hard to follow along with the sudden shifts in attitude with the two. In general, character motivation is just not explored well enough, especially in the moment. Some of this is intentional but not all. Sideplots consistently feel like they are too... more>> separated from the main story in the moment, and if even if they wrap back around the impacts are very minor. In most ways, the system concept only ever felt like it detracted from the story instead of enhancing or even just being mostly inoffensive.

Spoiler

The story is very hard to follow. Part of this is intentional; Yun Shayi regains her memories partway through the first arc and furthermore actively acts in ways motivated by her complicated feelings towards Luo Tangtang from the hidden past, which naturally should inspire a struggle to follow her thinking. The later story also has Luo Tangtang being tossed though memories and illusions, and it makes sense to make the reader go through that with her. However, most of it is unintentional or detrimental. Scenes often feel skipped over in a fragmented way; too many things happen in transitions, and it's hard to tell what is supposed to be implied and what is supposed to be brought up later in retrospect. There is insufficient worldbuilding to properly ground the reader in the universe of the novel or in specific locations, and the reader is often just thrown into scenes without the minimum amount of scene-setting, making scenes feel confusing and fragmented.

Character motivation is the other major issue with the storytelling, and primarily what messed up the romance. Obviously some characters, such as Yun Shayi after regaining her memories, are supposed to be hard to follow. However, Luo Tangtang, as the perspective character, should not be as hard to follow as she is. Her thoughts and approach to the relationship shift in unpredictable ways. For example, Luo Tangtang thinking that Yun Shayi wouldn't like her was mixed in with her aggressively cozying up in an approach to be liked and also with retreating in a very disorganized way. Often, the reader needs to rely on guessing via out of story common tropes or straight up eventually being told what was going through her head, making for a dizzying experience.

In general the plot was incredibly hard to decipher; the broad strokes certainly can be understood, but certain moments just feel arbitrary and a decent amount of guessing with popular tropes has to be done to fill in some blanks or solidify some assumptions. The main god's motivations and actions are baffling. Luo Tangtang's actions in the memory/illusion were hard to understand; for example, it was never adequately explained what her goal was for pretending to have betrayed Yun Shayi. Vice-versa, because of how we follow along with Luo Tangtang's entry knowledge, it's also very hard to understand Luo Yi's actions. Most of them can be explained as her organically having fallen in love with Yun Shayi back then, but for example, the reason Luo Tangtang stopped Yun Shayi from approaching the fire was her pre-knowledge, which Yun Shayi wouldn't have had. Yet the events that set off the fake betrayal, whatever the reason, were portrayed as a consequence of her trying to change fate.

While the system concept was mostly explained and written in a way that is inseparable from the story concept, it still feels like the early story suffers too much from the existence of the system. Mostly the system just seems to vaguespeak, and with how fragmented the story is, it's unclear how pivotal of a role anything Luo Tangtang did during 'current' book time played, let alone the system. The most important role the system played was hypnotizing Luo Tangtang into liking Yun Shayi early on, which is... an interesting choice that hurt a lot of the early chemistry and potential interesting situations. Ironically this might be the most clear romantic moment in the book since at least it's spelled out.

Side arcs were treated terribly in this book. Many lingering plot points were simply abandoned; Luo Tangtang's identity as a White Tiger was meaningless, every single plot point set up in the early book was meaningless since it was a fake world, the black tentacle monster thing was meaningless unless that was related to the silk flower in which case that was underexplained, Luo Tangtang bringing Yun Shayi's body was meaningless unless that was intended to be a parallel to Yun Shayi being left with Luo Yi's body which had too little written about to be certain, etc. The Qilin side arc was especially pointless and a timewaster, as it had no real effect on the plot and only served to act as a "oh that's where it came from" later on. But even then, the silk flower served the exact same purpose while not taking up multiple chapters.

If you're looking for romance, look away! If you're looking for system-bound protagonist/transmigration plots like She is the Protagonist, the Jealous CEO Treats Me Hypocritically, or Transmigrated as The Cannon Fodder Bride of The Villainess (to name a few), look away! This is 5% romance 95% drama and... world hopping? (can't even call it that since Luo Tangtang remains in the same place, just different versions of herself).

The system is useless for the plot (can't help the MC, can't provide important info, never appears when needed, appears in like 20-30... more>> chapters out of 78. All it says is "dont know, can't say, you'll know when the time comes, you don't wanna know" (in my words).

To be honest I didn't understand it that well, maybe you need to read it patiently, not like me that was reading chapters during lunch breaks at work. A lot of things happen at the beginning and characters keep getting introduced so you think they're relevant but they're not. Maybe only the MC, FL, God and 1 or 2 more.

I felt depressed when reading it, the final 5 chapters are what makes it avoid being called a BE novel. It's an interesting story but not my cup of tea. Not really about fighting demons or evil people but against herself and their destiny.

Also, I expected it to be lighthearted and them trying to elope or escape from the sect or enemies since it's called 'Running Off with the Sect Senior Sister' but never happens. <<less

This story is neither great or terrible, but I want to write this review anyway to warn potential readers that the comedy tag does NOT belong here. It is not amusing or lighthearted in any way - the core of the story is not the MC saving the FL like the synopsis might suggest, it's about the System pimping out the MC to the drugged FL in order to change the plot. I'm still giving the story a 4 because that alone doesn't necessarily make for a terrible story, just... more>> something that requires a specific taste in them. But don't expect comedy. As of chapter 6, there's none to be found. It can't be considered funny, not even as poorly delivered slapstick humor. The system has zero regards for the MCs autonomy or consent, and manipulates her into sleeping with the FL through means like drugs, hypnosis, and cutting off her escape attempts. It doesn't have the tone of a horror story, but it likely would've had a stronger premise if it did. In short, the story is ok if you're good with a slightly darker plot, but if you come here expecting comedy you'll likely leave with a poor taste in your mouth. <<less
