When Ning Xiaoyu, an eighteenth-line celebrity, participated in a variety show, she ran into the popular movie king who was resting in the lounge by coincidence.

The man leaned against the large floor-to-ceiling window, his long legs casually stretched out. The afternoon sunlight streamed through the glass, bathing him in a soft glow. His side profile, outlined by the light, was stunningly handsome, almost unreal.

Just as Ning Xiaoyu was about to quietly step back, a row of floating text suddenly appeared in front of her.

〖Girl, do you want to be famous? Do you wish to bask in the spotlight? If you win the movie king’s favor, all of it can be yours. Right now, the movie king is resting in the lounge. You can:

A. Steal a kiss from the movie king.

B. Take a secret photo of the movie king’s handsome sleeping face.

C. Spend ten warm and quiet minutes accompanying the movie king.〗

Ning Xiaoyu waited for a while, and when she realized she had no choice but to pick an option, she reluctantly chose C.

The love system rubbed its hands together in excitement. 〖Go for it, Girl!〗

Then, it watched in disbelief as Ning Xiaoyu sat down beside the movie king, pulled out a small pouch of melon seeds, crossed her legs, and began cracking them leisurely.

The love system that was secretly waiting for some sweet sparks to fly: Wait…… something feels off here???

Disclaimer: I noticed that many of the reviews are lower due to the translation issues, so I bumped my star rating from 4 to 5.
Spoiler

Some examples are a chapter originally about lunch being posted before the breakfast scene on the same day, or references to conversations that haven’t happened. I saw another review hinting that the Uncle character didn’t get a resolution in the translation? I didn’t get that far in the translations, but I read the RAWs from beginning to end and these inconsistencies do not exist in the original text. This drop in quality is not the fault of the author or the original work.

[collapse]

This story had me laughing and smiling for most of its chapters, the main character’s antics as she resists the system’s attempts at matchmaking are hilarious. As for the main couple, they have surprisingly similar backstories. They take time to warm up to each other beyond friends and that’s OK. The author doesn’t directly address it, but the burden on the MC has obviously made her depressed. This slower development is actually very suitable for them both.

Her lack of care for anything stems from an unhealthy lack of motivation. This makes the overall development of the novel very healing. The ML and the system ultimately help her gain confidence in living her own life instead of in the shadow of her father. Yes, the amnesia trope comes into play. I don’t think it was a completely unnecessary development for once. The situation was not overdramatized and mostly gave her a chance to reconsider her stance on romance by seeing things from a new perspective (even if it was due to a misunderstanding).

I recommend this novel for anyone who is fan of comedic couples and watching villains reap their own karma. The main couple also isn’t shy at all once the MC overcomes her resistance to love. It’s overall a fun and positive story. The villains are braindead, but it’s nice that they aren’t strong enough to make an impact on the protagonists. It works for the story. The largest hurt may be when
Spoiler

the MC’s father decides to side with his youngest daughter, completely chilling the relationship with his oldest daughter to his regret. He only saw her doing well after he woke from his coma so he sided with the weaker party, but he forgot to consider how much she paid for him to survive to that day. Her enemies are braindead, but so is someone who should have been her closest ally. This at least gave her back the freedom to live independently and courage to fall in love. She completely recognized that she would not make the same decisions as her father in the same scenarios. It was a not the best outcome (GE for all good guys), but it was good writing with plenty of foreshadowing.

[collapse]

Below are some villains and some of their outcomes since I’m not sure what else may have been missed in translation:

Spoiler

• Little sister Ning, a cuckoo, ends up kicked out of the Shen family with her mother. She is later charged with attempted mu*der and sent to prison.

• Mrs. Shen, the career stepmother, violates her agreement to never see her Ex in a public way and gets quickly abandoned by her rich husband. She is demoted to a career mistress and gives up on both her daughters. She attempts to cause some trouble at a major even but fails to even enter the gate.

• Little sister Ning’s friends on the show slowly disband over time and various incidents. One who attempted to imitate MC’s antics left early and repents after MC saves her life. The few who stay by her side to the end leave the show collectively in shame, including 4 later additions (og protag posse).

• Og protagonist still marries her destined lover, but the development had to have been a bit different than the original plot. Who knows if he will be as determined to restrain his playboy nature after finding out she was less sincere than he thought? She also envies MC rather than holding true hostility.

• ML’s Uncle attempts to cause a car accident, but had the bad luck reflected onto him by the system. ML gets away with minor injuries, but his Uncle is disabled. ML reflects that losing completely might be the best outcome for this so-called relative.

• Various small villains who commit crimes get caught by the police.

• MC gets addicted to giving checks in the extras, fending off two potential villains before they can develop.

• ML’s mother never makes an appearance. Neither of the couple invite any of their living parents to their very public wedding. His mother not appearing is bad, but she also doesn’t disturb his life when it gets better. Her villainy is the passive harm of abandonment. She is otherwise neutral. One of the few things we hear about ML’s mother is that she cares about family background when it comes to a relationship. She does NOT come forward to disrupt their relationship as younger sister Ning implied she might. It’s unknown if it’s because she respects her son’s choice or due to the MC being recognized by the Ning family or doesn’t care about her son at all. Regardless, his happiness without this cheap mother is probably the best slap to her face.

The premise sounded funny so I MTL-ed the chapters I could find.

50 chapters in (novel is not completed yet) and so far it has been very entertaining... and not a single hint of romance in sight. I don't mind that, actually. With some novels I found myself wondering "when is the romance going to start", but with this one... I don't even think about romance, I just want to continue reading the MC's eccentricities.

So far, the ML didn't give off an ML vibe at all, he felt more like a... more>> sidekick/accessory to the MC's life.

I haven't read that many salted fish novels though, so I'm not sure how this one compares against others. <<less

In the beginning, the same with the reviewer before me, anticipated the romance between the MC and ML. After reading so many chapters, I forgot the role of ML and their love story. I became invested on MC's antics.

I read salted fish novels, and in my opinion, they couldn't compare the MC of being a salted fish. She is the soul of being a salted fish.

The romance is like a subplot, but what I observe, it seems that ML have catch feelings towards to MC. I mean, he admitted that... more>> he likes being a soft rice lol.

MC's antics is very hard to predict and her dedication of being a salted fish is proven fact. The humor of this novel is very outstanding! <<less

The premise is decent of a host that refuses to play into the systems games or do much of anything beyond the bare minimum but forcing two people together with a system is disgusting, horrifying and evil and the books not good enough to overlook that. It was a little funny in the beginning but the system just would not stop holding her Father's health hostage for it's sick love games. I kept reading in the hopes she'd stay strong trying to avoid the things but the author

Novel not recommended to read.

Extremely empty novel with an Airheaded female MC with a very useless love system that instantly punishes MC. Nothing stands out, there are no great romantic moments, the fodder are your typical tropes, the world is extremely cardboard, and everyone inexplicably loves MC.

Novel ending is also lackluster.

-300Tril/10 Salted Fish MC trope also applies to the lazy author writing.

Am I happy I took the time to read this? Ehh, I'm not unhappy

Will I re-read this? No

Do I recommend this? Not really

While this ticked a lot of my boxes, sadly most of my attention was on how creepy and unpleasant I found the system to be. On the other hand, without it, there would be no story because the MC was really unmotivated in everything. Bad planning on the author's side. An extra star for a good translation, but I stopped part way when I got tired of being... more>> creeped out by the system. <<less

The story is very light and not to be taken really seriously but its both cute and funny.

I think this has honestly one of the best set of main leads I've read of despite the lack of actual 'romantic' interactions till like the last 10-30 chapters.

I like how the romance isn't just fully built on physical attraction and how their family background (Parenting, relatives, prev exp) explained why they had certain issues before delving into their relationship ex: FL rejected the thought of love because of how she saw love... more>> influenced her father negatively etc.,

I read the mtl and it was amazing. So if youre interested after reading this review please give it a try! <<less

More like a 4 but the current rating is too low so I hit 5

MC is as*xual coded, being much more interested in sleeping & eating than the extremely attractive ML that the system keeps trying to ship her with. The way she dodges the forced romance tropes left & right is honestly very impressive. I'm glad for it, because some of the things the system was trying to force her to do were downright creepy. Ironically, her attempts to maintain basic human decency between them results in the ML... more>> falling head over heels for her. We all saw it coming, but it was still entertaining af.

Some things were handled weird, & some plot holes remain, but overall it's a fun read to not take that seriously. I still want to drop her ex-family members off a cliff though. That's the only resolution I'm still waiting for. <<less

Leaving quick review to note that I finished this hahaha

Worth 5 stars, the title itself!! Our MC knows how to ba a salted fish king ahhaha despite that we can not ignore the fact that she's hardworking in *her own way* like yolo in life, getting work here and there to have savings.

System is such a suporter hahaha and with the multiple choices 🤣 like girl!! Hahaha MC is hilarious too on how she twists the answers she chooses. MC and ML had a good development + they are compatible... more>> for each other. ML understands MC is such a salted fish, he's so doting to MC. Nice side characters and cute lil buns Worth the read ! Funny novel <<less

I was really enjoying this as a over-the-top ridiculous comedy.

It's just, the system is incredibly annoying. It is constantly SCREAMING about sugar when MC and ML are just in the same frame, having a quasi-normal forced conversation and the like. I had a thought at the beginning that it was giving two outrageous/illegal/tiring choices and one choice slightly more suited to MC to spur her into action while staying true to herself, but no. Soon, either there's only one option or slight differences between the three. And all of it... more>> are things a normal person wouldn't do to someone they're interested in. MC wasn't even into ML at that point!

Then two things happened that made me not interested to finish. The system said it would follow them unto death and the romance actually picked up. I couldn't do it anymore.

The idea of them having a quiet, actually romantic moment and the system SCREAMING about how sweet it is and demanding they just start f*cking already, or they are about to marry and it's SCREAMING in MCs ear trying to direct the scene for maximum sugar, or later in life during the hard adulting moments, the system is just SCREAMING... [Ah, ah, ah! Girl, your useless dad just died, and he's holding your hand! Too sweet! Ah!] <<less

I liked it up until the Author realized they had no idea how to make the MC and ML actually fall in love and progress past “would ignore the ML if not for the system forcing her” and “she’s weird but seems sincerely nice”, so to solve this issue the Author pulled out the triple combo of “amnesia arc”, “idiot ball descends on the MC’s father”, and “ML suddenly wants to prove he has a bigger d*ck than other guys”.

I rarely rate a webnovel 5 stars but this was truly comedic gold with hints of cute, wholesome but steady romance. The author really took that salted fish character and ran with it. This isn't just an MC that's a little lazy, this was a TRUE salted fish. The way she gets around tasks because of her intrinsic laziness is so clever and funny. It's really a novel you don't want to miss.

I don't know about others, but I liked it. It's light-hearted, funny and nice. This novel has amnesia, but it affects the story in a good way, and it wasn't an unnecessary amnesia just to drag out the plot. Not to mention FL regained her memories in days.

I like MC's and ML's character and hope you guys will like them too 🙂

I quite like this story.

Like the FL, I feel very relaxed when her being a salted fish is in the foreftont of the novel.

So far the faceslapping is good like a salted fish and not cheesey. Its is also very consistent to the character.

I want to contniue to read every salted fish antics she will do in the future chapters.

It was okay. Kind of childish with just different scenes but not a smooth transition. There was no ending to ML's uncle. And villains were just brainless and s*upid. The memory loss part was unnecessary. The variety show seemed too unprofessional with tasks just all over the place. The system was just like elementary school kid.

Comedy was good.

FL finding loopholes for system tasks was good.

And xiangxiang (the little girl from hi dad that played with FL for 3 days) was the good part.

An easy-going novel, I thought I wasn't going to be able to handle the cringy options for too long, but MC handles it super well and you don't get the romance shoved down your throat. It is a slow and understandable process. She is very cute and proudly shows off how lazy she is.

It's a little superficial here and there, and I feel quite annoyed how they used "half-breed" to describe someone (even as an insult), but it's no news that people in China are brainwashed into being xenophobic.

But I... more>> do believe it's worth a read if you want a relaxing novel. <<less

Funny, lightweight novel-wearing story with a dryly humorous FL. All the talk about fishing was super chill - made me want to learn to fish. I’d have liked more about the ending of her love-brained dad but some revenge was achieved. Quite comfortable to read.

READ IT!!! The FL is hilarious and I haven’t found another like her that’s not only lazy (seen a few lazy FLs) but quirky as well! She is truly front and center in this novel and even the ML is practically a background character to her. Some may dislike how she faces no obstacles once she was bounded to the system but I personally like this easy going style. Sometimes I just want to read something and know that’s the character with a tragic past can finally have a smooth... more>> sailing life and not have anymore disturbances. She’s so chill that it almost turned this story into a slice of life story.

All characters were firmly in their spots (protagonists, snarky b*tches converted to docile ones, decent acquaintance turned into bestie) except for the dad. He’s the only one I have complex feelings over. The FL was able to come to terms with her mother and little sis but she held out hope for her dad.
Spoiler

He chilled her heart when he wanted her to drop the charges against the little sis for attempted mu*der but for him the little sis was still his daughter. Logically, he knew the little sis was heartless and the older sis was the one that stood by him but one has to remember that being in a coma for 7 years, he still hasn’t “caught up” with the times. He thought the little sis was lead astray by the mom and was still redeemable. But sir, attempted mu*der is irredeemable. It’s not something like stealing a husband or ruining a company, just a little more and the big sis would’ve died. It was also premeditated not spontaneous. He had the makings of realizing what’s right and wrong and was going to be firm (he transferred all his property to FL) but then he slid down the slope again. He was truly the most difficult for me to like/hate.

[collapse]

I know for sure this is one I’ll be coming back to again and again when I need to chill and laugh. <<less

Sweet, fun, and technically excellent. The characters are all fun, the interactions are entertaining, the overall pacing is great, and there really aren't any significant issues with the story. It's a lighthearted fluffy fun feel-good story that doesn't overstay its welcome or fall apart at the end. It's worth the time to read it.

Honestly the only reason why I'm not giving it 5 stars is because of two fairly big events involving the MC and her father and sister could have been given a bit more attention, as those two... more>> events felt like they were finished too quickly for how important they are. That said, they aren't the most important events, only really there to give the plot a bit of impetus in the middle so the story moves along. <<less
