I saved the protagonist’s teacher, who was my best friend in my previous life and whose death was confirmed.

But.

– What complete incompetence… I guess it’s right to destroy the empire.

Hey, teacher?

So, here's an actual summary:

In his previous life, the MC played a game and got attached to one of the side characters, the protagonist's teacher, Mari, who showed him what a proper adult should be. But one day, the game development team just killed her off. He waited and waited for an explanation or a come back, but it never happened. He gave up on the game and went on with his life. After his death he got reincarnated as Kesar (Caesar, I guess), a demon in the Demon King's... more>> army, supposed to die as a middle boss. Though he was on the ennemy's side, he tried his best to get stronger and survive in order to save Mari when the time comes. But what he didn't know is that Mari actually died on the battlefield after being betrayed by her disciples (not the protagonist, other disciples). Finally fed up with the discrimination and betrayal (she's part elf), after being saved by Kesar, she decides to side with him. Though he thinks it's just an elaborate scheme (he didn't witness the betrayal), Kesar (who wants to spend time with her) takes her in.

It's a short read, maybe even a 'compressed' one, not groundbreaking, but interesting enough. It doesn't particularly feel rushed... more like there's no elaborate process to anything. It's not particularly unrealistic (you can fall in love fast, ennemies can get killed quickly, etc.), but it's true that, normally, you try to develop these things more in a story to make things more interesting by raising expectations.

The MC is OK, not great, though it seems Mari is the actual MC most of the time... and her psychology is, bacically nonexistent. Others are OK too; not particularly interesting.

Spoiler

The author's political views as shown in chapter 59 are a bit... well, disturbing, I'd say. He basically explains at length that gender equality ends up with men committing su*cide because women (who, apparently, are mean parasites doing nothing at home while the man brings in the money), when they are given rights, ab*se them and steal everything from men while living their best life (he clearly didn't read all these economical studies that have proven that marriage and divorce tend to make women poorer).

In his view, those who have dominant positions in society (men, rich people, nobles, etc.) deserve them because it proves they have worked hard; even if they inherited those positions, they deserve everything they gain from them because they have more responsabilities...

Basically, for him, the only problem with capitalist coutries are social rights...

[collapse]

Anyway, it's not a particularly well written story. It could have been interesting if it wasn't so poorly developped.

The translation is not great, with the usual MTL mistakes (wrong pronuns, wrong subject, etc.), but it's mostly OK. <<less
