Li Shan was the current dynasty’s General Anbei—handsome as jade, brilliant in military strategy, and destined for greatness.

The Xie family saw his potential and arranged for their eldest daughter to marry him. But when Li Shan vanished during a battle—neither seen alive nor found dead—the Xie family, fearing disaster, quickly married off their daughter to someone else.

Unexpectedly, Li Shan had led his troops in a daring strike straight to the Hu royal court. He won a sweeping victory and was granted the title of Marquis of Anbei.

The Xie family had no choice but to swap brides and send their younger daughter in place of the one who was already married.

The Xies family’s second daughter, Yaoyao, was a natural beauty—enchanting and gentle, always going with the flow. Her mother was deeply worried. Before the wedding, she warned Yaoyao repeatedly:

“Your husband has a violent, unruly temper—he’s not easy to deal with. And remember, our family broke off the engagement first. He harbors deep resentment. Once you’re married, if his nature overwhelms you, just cry. You’re beautiful when you cry. Sooner or later, your tears will soften his heart.”

Yaoyao took that advice to heart. She never argued with him, never sought to win—only to survive quietly. But the first time Li Shan kissed her, his grip was intense. Tears shimmered in Yaoyao’s eyes as she whispered softly, “Husband…”

Li Shan’s sharp, handsome gaze remained calm. He gently brushed away her tear tracks with his thumb. Yet his hand still pressed against her waist as he leaned in again.

Yaoyao: “…”

So the crying didn’t work. Why wasn’t his heart softening?

Learning that the Xie family had reneged first, yet still clung to the Li family’s prestige and replaced the bride with the younger daughter, Li Shan sneered coldly: “What is the Li family now, a place any stray cat or dog can marry into?”

Later, when Yaoyao’s pet dog went missing, her eyes reddened, and tears fell like pearls one after another.

Li Shan, wiping away her tears and trying to comfort her awkwardly, murmured, “Stop crying. If it won’t be your dog, then I will. Let me be your dog, okay?”
