Okay, I normally default to a 3.0 rating unless something is just egregiously bad. That's my default "mediocre or slightly below rating". This deserves the 2.0.

Volume 1 starts off okay. Some kind of eyerollish generic "well I've been killed but I'm kind of okay with it" stuff, some stuff about how his life now is, how he's satisfied with his new family due to the wealth of emotional support that he now feels, etc etc.

This is all fine... kind of. I mean, if we ignore the fact that 17 years... more>> of his life are entirely handwaved. And yes I mean that literally. He just starts at 17. Poof. But okay, fine. It's technically better than just letting everyone stay as 7-10 year olds that are somehow smarter and more mature than most adults (and able to kill them easily). Fine.

Now, let me preface what I'm about to say with something: I'm not an SJW. I'm far from it. I'm anti-SJW if anything. I'm purely evaluating this work on a literary basis, vs other light novels.

I presume that about 25-50%+ of any given chapter in this book is essentially wasted on describing how every... single... freaking woman/girl he meets is just excessively beautiful. And then describing their traits. And then redescribing their traits. And then doing it again. And again. And again. Midway into volume 2, this garbage still hasn't ended. Dude. I understand. They're essentially "wuxia jade-like beauties". All of them. Every single one. They're amazing. And they like you. They all have some sort of charm or something. It's great. But I don't need this many reminders of that. Not even close to this many. Does this person not have an editor at all? Is their editor just garbage?

It doesn't end there. He constantly has to remind you that he has a dragon's soul and that it's better than other souls. All the time. Repeatedly. Is me putting single words followed by a period getting repetitive yet? Good, because that's what you'll get from this.

Furthermore he constantly seems to contradict himself. He claims he wants to not use his dragon powers because he appreciates his human parents and human life (not much of a spoiler, fairly certain he mentions that early on). Welp that's just thrown out the window. Repeatedly. Along with descriptions of his dragon soul. Which might or might not be deteriorated. We don't know. It's like Schrodinger's Dragon Soul. Might or might not be there.

Overall, I'm kind of interested in the concept, so I might check out the WN, but holy crap this is hard to read. You do not need literal descriptive filler in an LN. In a WN it's kind of forgivable since sometimes you do actually need to pad out a chapter. LN? No. People paid for this. You don't need this garbage in a limited paid format. Furthermore, the illustrations don't really match up with what you're supposed to be seeing. This isn't a good artist for a book that so heavily relies on describing women's breasts.

That's about it, I felt like I was reading nothing but filler the entire time. There is a plot and other things, but there's more glue than plot in this.

As far as the translation, it's not that great. Lots of awkwardness, especially near the beginning. Gets a little better and less halting to read as you go along. But I can't really blame the translator. Overall, still mostly understandable (although some sentences are frankly inscrutable). <<less
