At work, she was his private secretary, meticulously managing his daily life and silently serving as the backup support for his comatose lover. She was the model of compliance—obedient to a fault, following every instruction without question. If he directed her east, she would never even consider heading west, and she endured constant belittlement from the household staff.

In their private world, she existed as his voiceless wife, his unspoken remedy for sleeplessness. Rumors circulated about his extreme germaphobia. People knew the story of the last person who dared to kiss him—swiftly thrown into a river. Yet, behind closed doors, he would slam her against the wall.

*Give me a child, and I’ll set you free!*

His response was a cold, cutting rejection: “You don’t deserve it.”

So I finally finished the entire 760 chapters of this novel and I can finally write an honest review.

After finishing such a long angst novel I can say the only feeling I have is disappointment. I was anticipating their divorce so much and I was hoping to see yearning, regret, loss and helplessness from the male lead. But unfortunately I saw none of those things. I wanted the male lead to understand his feelings BEFORE regaining his memories. Once he remembered there was no sense of conflict and he gained... more>> back everything easily. I wanted the female lead to have some back bone and to stand up for herself. I wanted her to learn some self-worth and refuse to go back to the person who CONSISTENTLY prioritize another woman over her. But unfortunately none of that happened.

before reading this novel I was reading The Devil Who Breaks My Neck which everyone says it's their worst ML ever. But personally I found the ML from this book the absolute worst ML for me. Personally I can forgive a lot IF the male lead is obsessed with the FL from start to finish. It's not that objectively the things this ML did is the worst, it's just that I have very little tolerance for emotional ab*se and I think that's the worst kind of ab*se. The ML spends a good chunk of novel emotionally abusing the FL so that's a no for me. <<less

The 5 stars is an error. I'd give it 3 stars currently.

The core of the story is engaging, but I have found it really hard to believe the female lead character's willingness to accept 3 years of genuine and consistent ab*se and still "love" her husband, ever hopeful he'd love her back. What decent human being treats another the way he treats her? (Honestly, how he treats her is traumatising to read let alone experience.)

Although there is a smut tag here there is actually zero smut, however, it is... more>> suggested in the text that he consistently forces s*x on her, and there is little enjoyment suggested for her. She is consistently "appeasing" him either through s*x, forced kisses, or some other usually humiliating action.

I get that she is a previously traumatised person, hence she became mute, and thus doesn't necessarily respond normally, but... (Something shocking happened in her childhood that will need to be resolved later.)

Also because of being mute she's experienced a lot of related negative behaviour by others around her. It has given her a greater tolerance for ab*se, but she is also quite tough with bullies, except her husband. Simply "because she fell in love at first sight with her husband" she somehow just keeps accepting his verbal and physical ab*se??

And then the supportive grandma and cousin keep encouraging her to stick with the guy until he falls in love with her... what?? If they care they should remove her ASAP. The amount of times she is physically bruised, battered, or ends up in hospital (not all him but some because of his neglectful attitude) is shocking.

He is supposed to be so smart, but he doesn't properly check the inconsistency of the supposed facts of the situation that put his childhood friend in a 3 year coma, convinced his wife's father caused the situation. Her mother (awful person) manipulated him into marrying her, so now it is okay to make her pay and pay and pay...

Interesting the parallel of her lovely dad, wrongly accused, wasting away physically in prison ending up in hospital, and lovely her also trapped in a prison like marriage where she keeps getting hurt too. What is the husband going to do when he finds out how shockingly he has treated his true love and her family, and all they've lost because of him? Not sure any relationship could ever come back from that.

Since Ch 110 she seems to be realising he'll never love her, but wants to stick around to maintain access to her dad (hubby is vindictive and controlling re her dad) and to try to find the truth about what really happened.

The core story with the dastardly deeds and background trauma etc is actually really good.

Pity about the male lead character being an immature nasty guy, and her having such low self-worth to "love" a person who is so abusive and nasty to her. (So far he doesn't have a backstory that gives us any explanation for treating another human being like that. Just spoiled, arrogant and self-righteous. There is a brief mention of him being kidnapped as a child and his buddy dying during the event, but that still doesn't give him enough reason for unhinged treatment of another human, who happens to be his much smaller, physically weak wife. He doesn't seem to care about the bruises and damage he does to her body - he kicked her so badly she is still struggling with the pain... why hasn't she gone to the doctor?)

Ugh, I wish the author would show her collecting evidence of his ab*se so she can sue him when she gets the truth and can leave him. <<less
