The title should be the other way round: how a supposedly cold duke seduces a not so smart maid.

This novel has a very weak plot with unrealistic, ridiculous and s*upid characters. The MC is a maid of the King's daughter, Marianne, a spoiled and childish woman who doesnt want to marry the man chosen by her father. Marianne hates this man, the Duke, due to a very serious reason, he is taller than her (I wish it was a joke). So she decides to sleep around out of spite, gets... more>> pregnant and kills the MC because she discovered this so called secret. Problem is that a lot of other maids know that she sleeps around as she is quite open in bringing men into her house, so why kill only the MC? It doesnt make sense. Anyway, the MC dies and comes back to life some months before and wants to escape her fate.

Without the shread of a plan she manages to meet the Duke for the first time, she is so empty-headed that she gets mesmerized by his face to the point of kissing him out of nowhere before running away. The Duke instead of being affronted for being assaulted by a strange woman, is immediately interested in her. They met a second time, the Duke tries to touch her under her skirt (wtf!?) but it's difficult because she wears multiple layers of clothes, then he asks her to undress and try to seduce him so that he will help her escape from Marianne. The MC complies and they start making out. The dialogue during this scene is one of the worst cringy and unbelievable thing I have read recently.

I wonder if there are some characters in this novel who think and act as normal human beings. <<less

Please, give this novel a chance. Most of the reviewers who are giving the novel a low rating haven't read the later chapters. The plot ditches almost all cliches towards the halfway point. Yes, this is a romance novel. Yes, many novels of this type have a low self esteem FL and mysterious/strong ML. But throughout the story, the FL gains a sense of self. There's actual character development for most characters. Please give this a chance! Its been one of my favorite novels for a long time :)

Way too amateur for my taste.

Author loves to describe the same things again and again. For example main character's appearances, they wrote about how manly, muscular and handsome the ML is and how thin the FL's waist is repetitively. Every time he enters the scene his tall figure, broad shoulders, long legs and the muscular scent is written. Multiple times in the same chapter even! Like alright we get it, they have the appearances... It's annoying.

The villainess is inspired from a cartoon I guess, it seems like written by a... more>> simple middle schooler mind who doesn't read much.

Let's not talk about common sense issues. Plot is ridiculous too, I can't feel anything for these halfly-designed characters.

Like watching a train wreck about to happen and being unable to look away...

To be honest, the writing isn't terrible, it's more of the story logic that is completely screwed up?

I wouldn't be surprised if this novel was written by a 11 year old.

The character act and react in completely absurd ways.

First the Duke's fiance evilly cackles when she drugs him to kill him, then she seems frightened by the fact that her lover tells her the Duke is actually gonna die. Then the Duke threatens the King by saying he can kill him in that very moment and rebel to break the engagement, then a day later the maids of the Duke say that no, it's the royal family that caused the Duke's family to die and the Duchy can't defend itself against the power of the royal family because their soldiers are at the border.

Literally every action and reaction made by the characters are completely contradicted or forgotten the next moment.

It's like reading a story written by a goldfish. Or maybe one of those party games where 10 different people write 10 different sentences in order to make a story, but none of them have the chance to read what was written before them.

I don’t know why people giving this bad review but in my opinion this is one of the best novels I’ve ever read !! The writing is soo good and there’s really no plot holes ❤️❤️

the ML is soo kind and sweet. First FL has zero confidence in herself but as the story goes thanks to the ML she starts to change herself. Really love this couple. And it’s amazing how the princess (villainess) gets her karma.

highly recommend for anyone who’s interested in reading a novel with sweet ML. Lionel... more>> is one of the best ML’s I’ve ever come across (maybe the second place in my list, first place is victor from ‘death can’t sleep’)

anyway don’t judge the FL from first few chap. She really work hard to save the life of ML. Lastly thanks for the translators! Love ya !! <<less

The writing is shallow. The plot is weak and messy. It feels like it was written by a high schooler. It was supposed to be a Western setting, but the FL's surname? Katana. TF? It was so random. That name would fit better in Eastern setting. Moving on...

The FL had a low self esteem because of the way she was treated before the ML saved her. How low was her self esteem? Quite low, almost none, that she needed to be reminded or be complimented in almost every chapter. We... more>> get it, she was beautiful, tall, slim, and fair. There was need to mention it every time when she stood up in front of a mirror to dress up. It feels as if the writer is projecting her own self insecurities in her writing. One moment, the FL is depicted as courageous. But the next moment, she was timid. Her emotional fluctuation is making it hard to follow her train of thought. Quite frustrating really. <<less

First two chapters in and the FL is one of the worst FL's ever. She died cause she knew Marianne's secret, she still begged them to let her live while they were going to burn her. She said them they can cut off her tongue if they're afraid of rumors and they can cut off her hands if they're afraid that she'll write her secret. Like wtf girl... Not my type of novel.. She took a whole chapter to confirm if everything she saw was real or not. Like the... more>> damn Grim Reaper himself told the details and this girl still couldn't believe it. She kept saying that 'she died and came back to life'. Like who tf would say that..

And the ML... What's wrong with his head. He knows that Marianne sleeps around with other men and all and she herself requested him to cancel the marriage because she doesn't like him and is in love with someone else. But he said he's fine with it.

The FL is thirsty as soon she saw the ML.. The characters in this novel are really bad. No personality. <<less

eww. off the bat, the prologue not impressing me should have been the sign to stop reading. if you can't catch a reader's attention at the beginning that means your story likely won't be interesting enough to continue reading. I learned not to buy a book by reading the first 2 chapters bc books are expensive and time is precious. luckily I read this novel for free. thanks translators! these people really are doing god's work.

anyway... despite the lackluster intro...i carried on bc I have no life... couldn't get past... more>> chapter three. so maybe it us unfair for me to review this but I need to vent. the author must be into some sick sh*t for having the mean girl kick a dog to death by chapter three.

also kind of weird that mean girl killed FL for finding out her secret when all of the maids knew about said secret??? author are you okay??

i've seen people praise it for having the FL gain confidence in herself and claiming that's not like your typical heroine. uhhhh...i can find this exact trope in a 1000 form of media worldwide while also finding at least 50 of them with better writing than this one. if a 14 year old wrote this, I would not be surprised... but I sincerely hope for them to keep on writing. practice makes perfect after all.

The novel was a slow burn and the first few chapters are dragging and uninteresting. It took me more than 10 chapters to finally get hooked with the story. It's mainly because the author repeats A LOT of sentences/paragraph to show the character's confusion. I mostly skipped those repetitive paragraphs.

It was a good read nonetheless. The FL is not entirely a damsel-in-distress... especially for someone with low self-esteem and was verbally ab*sed all her life, her meek personality is kinda understandable. The ML is the typical cold tough guy turned... more>> doting husband. I liked how their relationship developed, from physical attraction, to like and finally, to love. The plot picked up towards the middle and there was some parts in the ending that was a bit confusing but the story still ended well.

Overall, it was a good quick read. The translator did a great job with the translations. <<less

It was good but not perfect.

love the first half (except their first and second meet, because those were cringe af) but then when FL dissappear I just couldn't enjoy the angst. Because writing was so dull I didn't feel the pain of the man when he lost his wife. I waited just for this scene bu I was just like happened and done in one chapter. Btw she always tells him 'I love you' but he never says it back until she disappeared and It was just so annoying and their is a quote he say "I married to you so I could sleep with you" something like that I was so devastating even for me who loves angst.

When she came back she says I know he didn't love me, only liked me, even though they were the sweetest couple and I just doubt what I read. He didn't love her after everything what they did. This thing instantly turned me off. He act like she is his one and only and then he couldn't even say I love you after she begged him to say it. Should I cry or laugh. Anyway for me something was not right about this novel and I kinda didn't like the Ml. Sometimes I loved him but then he does something and I go back to hating. And again in like every other korean novel every problem was solving without a valid reason. Magic. Everything was solved with magic. Again. IF novel was Ending with a Fl's dissappearing and Ml's regretting not saying 'I love you' it would be so much realistic bcs novel actually explain why so go back in time and why everything happened. It wasn't a long novel but I think author dragged it a bit. Not sm.

GOOD THING ABOUT THIS NOVEL:

-we can actually read about their romance and this is rare for this genre.

-Our couple is talk (?) sometimes.

-ML kinda sweet.

-FL is actually has travma after what she's been through.

-I like the Fl, I think she is realistic one. NOT IN THE FIRST 10-15. IN FIRST FEW CHAPTER FL IS CRINGEST FL EVER.

-When she go back in time everything didn't solved immediately and easily.

BAD THING THAT MADE ME DISLIKE THIS BOOK

-HE CAN NOT EVEN SAY 'I LOVE YOU'

-THEY MARRIED BCS HE WANTED TO SLEEPT WITH HER. I DO NOT KNOW IF HE MEAN IT WHEN SAYS THS BUT HE SAID ANYWAY.

-THE SCENE WHEN HE DRUGED. THEIR FIRST TIME WAS WHEN HE DRUGGED

-ML (%90 in the book)

-KING and MARIANNE THEY ARE VILLANS WITH A EMPTY BRAIN.

-SOME PARTS WAS CONFUSING. ESPECIALLY WHEN SHE CAME BACK. I JUST THOUGHT AUTHOR JUST WANNA DONE WITH THIS QUICKLY.

-SHE DIDN'T DIE.

ps. I am in love with the man in the book who is ancestor of Ml. Give him to me. I am confused if he is the ML at first meeting but I don't think so because even the FL is thought they only have similar faces not personality.

It's a pretty good novel with good plot and direction. It's hard to not get confused with the four or three last chapters. But overall it's pretty well written.

If you are looking for proper-slow-reasonable-short-revenge, this is the perfect novel.

The story starts off great guys she regressed and has to find away for the duke to not marry the princess she didn't have a solid plan but she got caught ears dropping on the duke and princess conversation she kissed him and walk away it wasn't a big deal he was seduced then the crown princess planned to posing and kill him and put the blame on the MC so in order to sweat out the poison they had secs getting good right no the princess expected the duke... more>> to die but he was still alive blah blah things happened and he too the MC home it just get worse from there she all of a sudden becomes dense it's soooo boring like omg story ruined all the build up wasted a solid 3⭐⭐⭐ <<less

I have read quite far into the novel and yet the progress from chapter 1 to chapter 60 isn't much. The plot and all the characters' goals are flat. The antagonists' hatred are very childish. It took many chapters to read just for an extremely ridiculous excuse to why the FL was killed.

She died because the princess hated that she's unattractive and found out of her secret. The stem of the antagonists' hatred is from appearance and pettiness, that's it.

The protagonists do not stand out either as they are physically and mentally weak, but the author describes them as the opposite even though they fall for foolery. The FL is written to be pitied, but it's hard to pity her when she is not consistent with her goal to escape and traps herself in the demise of the princess. She contradicts herself so much, it gave me a headache. Trigger Warning for readers sensitive to body dysphoria!

The author is also obsessed with emphasizing how skinny the FL is. Every character who's seen the FL's true visuals always describes her as a tall and a "slender figure that lacks fat" with a very small waist.

The male lead is so useless despite being described to be intelligent and a very capable man, but it is not shown through the story.

The duke was easily fooled by the princess and a rivaling duke. Other than being an untraditional noble, the duke is a forgettable figure. He has no personal goals and chose to marry the scandalous princess because the imperial family asked of him.

He had forced himself onto the FL twice. The 1st time when she had visited his estate to drop off the princess's gifts and the 2nd time when he was poisoned and they were locked in a room together. It was upsetting to read the FL's monologues after the incident as she thanks the duke taking her v*rginity several times, although it was forced. When he awoke he demanded for the FL to be searched as it was possible that she maybe pregnant and he never acknowledged that he r@ped her. Neither did the author ever explain why the duke would act like a monster when he is poisoned. It's just an excuse for a badly written smut scene.

This story is by far one of the worst novels I ever read. The story seems to be written straight out of Wattpad because all the explanations are ridiculous and nonsensical. I dropped this novel because it was too ridiculous to read further. <<less

⭐⭐⭐⭐ of the story and for the effort of translating to english.

⭐⭐⭐ for the story.

I've read the story because of the completion (if the book still not complete I might drop it 2-5 chapters... I skim a few chapters when it became repetitive for me. I wanted it to be direct and the ML is not aggressive towards his enemies for me.. his role doesn't live up to my expectations haha!

What I like abt it towards the ending.

Overall if comparing the story and to a low budget drama... that is XD

Like-- MC with her scarf tied to a functioning eletricfan; it causes drama and all the characters in that scene with each transition w/ different angles the MC doesnt do anything just hold her scarf while she's out of breath, meanwhile the ML tries everything to cut the scarf from the electricfan (no scissors, knife cutter), he just uses his teeth to cut her scarf meanwhile the little sister trying to unplug the extension but can't do it for whatever reason...

This concludes of all the people on that scene no one ever think to turn off the switch.

Overall, I like it. I particularly like the romance and mystery regarding the witches and wizards, and their powers. The romance is intense and the revelation is done in a very interesting way. Yet, the major question remains unanswered until the end. Why exactly do the queen and princess hate the MC so much? Even the MC thinks it doesn't make sense. And, what's the deal with Philip Katana's real identity? Is he a real human or not?

Aside from that, why is it only the princess gets a terrible ending?... more>> Even though her actions are outrageous, I can't help but feel extremely sorry for her. It's like she's created solely to be a villainess with no good side at all. With parents like the king and queen, how can any normal child be raised by such extremely bad parenting? Yet, the real terrible people (king, queen, princess's husband) remain safe from any punishment... I bet this is one of the stories that inspire the whole "villainess deserves her second chance and rewind time" kind of story. <<less

If u are looking for something worth it to read grab your sh*t and read this art here hehehehe idk I just got so hook, the story line is good, this is just my cup of tea. This series is just short so it will not take up a lot of your time and the ending is satisfying. However, just like some of the readers, the only annoying part in this story is that... more>> the antagonist is very childish like literally, I would really prefer if the antagonist was like really playing the part of a villain to make the story more exciting and have more substance and the repetition of some description like yeah we know already, this might seem amateur for some but for the sake of binge reading this is quite nice. ANYWAY I still love this story beside its free to read it💗😘

I remember reading this before and then stop. When I encounter it again, tried reading again. Its still the same.

Written prematurely. The author's knowledge on the topic was limited so making their writtings immature, and seemingly childish. Im only chapter 51 so I cant say that their relationship was good cuz as of now, the FL still timid. I don't see any smart in her. She wasn't scheming, regardless even if she regressed, I still think she was still the same as her first life except now she had someone.

She panics in slightest change from what she remembers from past live but she initiated the change.

And then the part,

where she and the duke was locked inside the room. She can save the duke without having s*x at all. Cuz later she still save him by her necklace. That s*x is very unnecessary. And its not like the author wrote the smutty part. NO. NOTHING AT ALL.

And when the ML admits that he's the who spread the rumors about her and the duke and the princess, causing that situation above, she didn't get mad. She almost died that time, AGAIN!

I thought what was important for her was to survive so she seduce the duke. Survive and liberation. She only did was to kiss the practically stranger and scary duke, at their first meeting. Im more suprise that she could do that when the duke was a head taller than her and when you stole a kiss, both party should be close to each other.

See that? That's the childish part of the novel and that's not only that, they dont use basic etiquette: they dont addressed the duke, your grace, they call him duke. Even the princess and queen they call them in their titles, instead of using the etiquette.

Im all for the duke threatening the king. But you cant do that in their face.

And that's not only that. You can try to read it but you will notice things, you can ignore it but it will pile up until you DNF'ed.

I've read more than 50 novels from this site, but none had ever made me create an account on here.

I couldn't overlook the reviews on this novel especially after I completed it.

I don't know if people are being snubbish with this novel but many of the reviews here are extremely biased or unfair.

... more>> The novel isn't as bad as they claim even with its imperfection. I don't even understand the claim of this seeming like an amateur's work and being badly written.

Yes, there might be issues with its pacing and some descriptions (didn't mind though) but anything below a 3 star rating is just being snubby.

The FL and ML aren't in anyway as bad as what's being described here. They are great and their relationship was actually very healthy. Could have been better maybe but not bad in any way.

The story is also pretty solid. The plot made a lot of sense and it wasn't all and about.

I'm not trying to describe the story to anyone with this review. I'm just here to say ignore the harsh reviews and please read this novel yourself and form your own judgment.
