Why do some people always have frighteningly high luck?

Why are there always some people who can easily win the favor of beautiful women?

Why do people always go around casually, and treasures automatically come to the door?

Also, why do these guys always find trouble with him?

Even the master who has always favored me has begun to despise me?

Feng Shao, who was in charge of the mysterious artifact Tianhua Jade Slip, finally discovered that in the process of using the Tianhua Jade Slip, his own luck would gradually change to the direction of a villain.

So I’m going to be a stepping stone to these sons of fortune?

I, Feng Shao, must never be led by a dog so easily! If I’m not allowed here, then I’ll break out of my own world!

Review at ch 36: As the others reviews says this novel is really infuriating.

You must have great pacience to read this without punching the screen. Also this is also the supposed good point of the novel, the more we suffer the sweeter the come back. This is also a good novel to train your mental state and reach the dao of patience.

Also, I really like the MC it fells fresh compared to others.

Even them if the novel doesn't reach a satisfactory conclusion I'm going to learn chinese only to swear... more>> to the author until he bleeds from his eyes.

Edit at ch 137: I'm going to have to learn chinese. It started realatively well but as it keep going the quality keep decreasing. Now I can't even recommend it, the character development is null, the villains are dull, the plot progresiong is really really bad. You can't really get engaged by it. It's a real pity seeing all this wasted potential. I'm giving it 3 starts because at least the original idea was good. <<less

Infuriating, totally infuriating!

I'm going to vomit blood at this rate.

For context, the novel does something that I think other novels of this genre fail to do: Sons and daughters of heaven as are sturdy as a c*ckroaches.

... more>> There's no "I kill a protagonist and another one appears" in this story, heck, the first protagonist is still alive because of his thicc plot armor.

Although that makes my blood boil, I count that as a good point, it was a pleasant surprise after seeing a lot of villain novels where the sons of heaven are paper tigers.

Also, the MC's personality is righteous and kind, which is a limitation in terms of growth but I really like it.

The translarion of the prologue is wanky but it gets fixed so that's not a problem. <<less

Yeah I had to drop this fic. Its not bad if you like to be stressed out constantly and never get that sweet release from coming down from the climax of an arc. So when you read this know our MC gets his face slapped over and over, while the main antagonists are left with little long term harm. Like the villains keep get little slaps on the wrists even after trying to mu*der the holy son and/or betraying the sect. (For real wtf)

Its as if the author decided... more>> to make the most irritating work possible leaving nothing else worthy of substance to detract from this constant stream of BS. And it really shows when you take away the scenes with our MC being treated like a door mat. <<less

Some interesting ideas, but disappointing execution, especially later on. I suspect the author felt pressured to maintain a higher level of output than they could sustain quality work with, but 2d cookie cutter plotlines the author themselves says they hate become increasingly common. Repetition without subtlety or believable character psychology.

Oh, MC is also head over heels for his 15 year old fiance? He doesn't want to have s*x with her until she's 18, but he doesn't think of her as a child and apparently doesn't mind making out. MC is... more>> 40 or something. On the other hand, MC is quite devoted to the concept of monogamy and doesn't consider other women, so it's good for people who hate harem. There are a number of people with one sided crushes on the protagonist, but they basically handle it maturely and get over it. They aren't milked for tears to highlight the protagonist with heartbreak. <<less

I will not leave a rating because I cannot continue with the story. As mentioned by the earlier reviews, the novel is genuinely INFURIATING. I cannot continue reading dozens of chapters angrily just to see these selfish sons of heaven finally get slapped to oblivion only to crawl back again from the ground like c*ckroaches.

I mainly read to de-stress, not to stress myself out of frustration. Personally, this is not my cup of tea, but if its yours, then enjoy it all you want for me. No amount of boredom... more>> and lack of novels will ever get me back to reading this work.

P.S. I only read some 20 chapters so far but I'm getting this nagging feeling that the MC is becoming more and more of a pushover. <<less

Disclaimer: Since, as pretty much every other review has mentioned, this novel is extremely frustrating, I’m not exactly in the best mental state to write a good review from scratch rn, therefore, I will base this review on preexisting ones and add when I think they’re wrong.

In one of the reviews, the author mentions that this isn’t a face-slapping novel. I definitely beg to differ. This IS a face-slapping novel. It is just executed really well and does not contain many of the negative stereotypes associated with face-slapping novels.

This is... more>> because the author takes it slow. In other similar face slapping novels such as ‘Forcibly kissing the heroine’, the sons of heaven are just glorified punching bags. The author goes on and on about how lucky they are but we never actually SEE it. In those novels, the Son of Fortune would get one of their testicles ripped off, 2 limbs grinded to dust, kidney stolen and left lung punctured in their first few meetings with the protagonist. The author would talk about how they’d walk it off because of their luck, but then they’d immediately die and the story would move on.

In this story, the son of fortune doesn’t really take any lasting damage until what I assume will be the very end. Some deux ex machina will pop out and rescue him before anything bad truly occurs and when he DOES take damage, he’ll recover soon after. Unlike other novels where the sons of fortune’s life just plummet upon meeting the protagonist, the lives of the sons of fortune in this novel resemble roller-coaster rides with a downward trajectory.

Onto the criticisms. User Longxi mentioned in his review of his novel that the average IQ is high and the IQ drops have a reason. LIKE HELL THEY DO. While the average IQ of characters in this novel is higher than those of characters from the same genre, it is still appallingly low compared to other novels in general.

And the IQ drops are HORRENDOUS.

Spoilers from here on out:

The son of fortune meets a girl and pokes his nose into the girl’s business. It’s not like he helped her or anything. He at best saved her a few bucks. The girl then brings the son of fortune to her house (why?) and gives him a tour. The son of fortune steals something and walks away. SECONDS LATER the girl’s dad asks the girl if she saw anyone steal anything. The girl KNOWS it’s the son of fortune and that her father will be HEAVILY PUNISHED if he doesn’t get it back but DOESN’T TELL HER FATHER. That mf was METERS away, her father is stronger than him, they could’ve caught him easily. She KNOWS HIS NAME. Instead she cries about it and resolves to get it back when she meets the son of fortune next time for her father (WHYYYYY). Shenanigans ensue and the girl pisses off the child of fortune, leading him to kill her father after he got stronger.

By that point, I was thinking that perhaps the best thing that girl could’ve done for her father was sell herself into prostitution. Either that or just off herself.

This is but one of the many IQ drops plaguing this novel. This is the worst one by far tho. <<less

MC is an true and true good person but Heavenly Dao makes him out to be a villain. He has morals and principles and will be nice to everyone as long as they don't cross his bottom line.

This isn't like those novels where MC go around slapping others in the face or where everything works out for him. Also, the protagonists or sons of fortune have great luck or protagonist halo so that makes things work in their favor at most times. However, a lot of people actually have a... more>> working IQ except for the sons of fortune, and the ones being affected by the Heavenly Dao and those people whose actions have a purpose or underlying motive.

From Author's Note:

"Until now, many readers still do not understand the direction of this book, so I will briefly reveal it here.

First of all, this book is not a cool theme, because I can't write a cool theme myself.

In a novel I wrote on another platform, I once wrote a plot of face slapping on a whim.

After I finished writing it, I read it again.

No matter what the readers think, I felt quite ashamed, so I deleted it all.

I can't write cool themes, and the plot of face slapping is not my specialty, so for readers who want to read those, this book may disappoint you.

Some people say that Feng Shao is like a Holy Mother or a Saint, but in fact, it is because many people don't understand Feng Shao's character at all.

Feng Shao is a very purposeful person, he only cares about the result, not the process.

As long as the end result is good, forgiving some people is just a piece of cake for him. But if he has determined that some people are incurable, he will never show mercy.

Then let's talk about the future plot of the book.

The plot of this book is mainly composed of three parts, one is the growth of the protagonist, the other is the harvesting of the sons of fortune, and the third is the establishment of the protagonist's own power.

Therefore, in the follow-up plot arrangement, there will be a large number of plots with farming the sons of fortune.

The protagonist will become a person who truly changes the world, not a person who goes around being pretentious and slapping people in the face. <<less

This novel should be considered one of the best protagonist-eating villain tropes out there, there are no systems, heavenly luck has basis: talent, connections, and external influences, such as weapons. Total average IQ is high, and even supposed IQ drops only look like that but are backed with motives such as pride, envy, and greed. Even the "protagonists" have their own explanations on why they act the way they do not just because author said so, and those that back them also have their own motivations plus getting influenced by... more>> the luck. This really broke my prejudice against the trope being a mindless power trip read. Heck, even the MC suffers setbacks, but I tell you the payoff in the future would send readers into heaven.

Only con of this novel is because there is logic, and their own cause and effect, things can't glossed over and just hand wave things into happening, leading to a slow story. As things can't be rushed, it feels that chapters are too short.

PS. We need more chapters this is too addicting. <<less

It's disappointing. Author had a good blueprint for a deconstruction of xianxia/xuanhuan genre. And totally flubs it.

Story starts slow goes piece by piece. In a "relatively" grounded level from interpersonal relationships. This happens because of that, that happens because of the other thing. So you expect this to be norm. Then around halfway point story goes back to standard nonsense. Realms mean nothing, protagonists and antagonists pulls stuff from nowhere. Later half of the novel goes on autopilot. You get a 10 year timeskip at 420 and story ends in... more>> 40 chapters in a GoT season 8 fashion.

Which frankly is a waste. People who like that type of junk food already skipped the novel by now. And people who are interested in something different now are disappointed. So it makes no one happy. Author admits themselves this is not a well written novel in 460 postscript. Paraphrasing; "When I started writing this, book I only conceived an opening, and there was no outline."

In short author was not good enough to write the thing they envisioned. Which is a shame. <<less

Have you ever heard of the term 'slow burn'? Well, this novel is a slow burn counterattack / face slap, which is a genre that I never thought existed. Normally, the face slapping protagonist is so op & well prepared due to their various cheats that the antagonists are all instantly defeated & humiliated. This novel is instead a back & forth exchange of blows, with the MC initially being on the weaker side. This is actually somewhat foreshadowed by their opening fight, where the MC is seemingly driven back... more>> whilst carefully gauging his opponents abilities just so he can be sure to win an overwhelming victory in the end.

The MC wins the first round by beating the 'son of heaven' & taking his sword, but the 'son of heaven' (more like son of a btch) steals back the sword, steals the treasures MC got for the sect, & convinces the dumbass sect master to kick MC out. However, the MC leaving then completely paralyzes the sect's functions & cripples them financially. The sect is truly like a company that's led by an incompetent CEO who fired the one old-time worker that was doing the job of 15 employees & tries to make up for that loss by hiring a nepo baby instead. Of course it's not going to work.

The sect master's regret is already starting but it's probably going to take a lot longer before MC builds up his strength with all the free time he now has, since he's no longer doing anything for the sect, & he returns in glory to claim the final victory. A frustrating novel to read if you're only looking for that quick spike of endorphins, and not recommended for anyone who doesn't have the patience to sit through 150 chapters of slow burn. 4/5 for good world building & realistically tenacious 'son of heaven' antagonists, which is rare to see nowadays. <<less

It's a 3/5 if you have no patience and a 5/5 if you do.

First off, a quick summary. Feng Shao has a cheat in two parts - one lets him easily find treasures, which he used alongside tons of hard work to restore his crumbling sect back to a position of power, and the other lets him see people's "luck". This is how he comes to discover that there are these 'sons of heaven', with luck large enough to affect the fortunes of others, when one comes knocking on his... more>> doorstep seeking to usurp his place in the sect.

It seems there are a lot of people who find this story infuriating when this nasty entitled little protagonist shows up and starts doing worse and worse things. None of the 'sons of heaven' are the good righteous type - that's Feng Shao, who's a villain in this setting. It's reasonable to be annoyed with the little shits, but Feng Shao isn't taking it like a doormat. He's simply got a line that the bastard hasn't crossed yet because (minor spoilers) he doesn't give a hoot about his position as the holy son and happily sees it go away so that he can finally dedicate some more time to his own personal growth. And when the bastard does finally cross that line, the only reason he survives past the first 50 chapters is because of Feng Shao's choice, because of *spoiler*. On other matters - there's definitely face slapping here, oh yes, though mostly indirectly. There are people with high IQ and people with low IQ, and some choices I can only attribute to the influence of the 'son of heaven'.

Overall, what makes this story interesting is Feng Shao himself, who's a righteous character for a Xianxia setting. In fact, the first 50 chapters are more interesting than the next 50 for this reason. Also note the lack of a harem tag. The second 50 chapters feels much more like a standard 'villain suppresses the protagonists' story - there's even the classic "I am the fated Villain" opening which has to be a meme at this point.

Regarding the translation - I'm not sure why the chapters are split into two when we're getting 2 or 3 full chapters every day. The quality is good, but the reading experience is (as usual) much better as a binge read than getting drip fed. The stuff that happens in just two chapters doesn't usually feel that significant. <<less

Great start but quality degraded as time went by.

I'd say this is more of a 3.5, but not a 3 with the quality of writing because:

This doesn't follow the instant gratification pattern where one "hero" comes in and immediately gets their face slapped - this was more how a Villain will have to keep crushing a true hero over and over again before they attain true victory.

... more>> So the gratification is delayed, but it is there.

Unfortunately, by the 100+ Chapters, the quality of the writing/translations made a downturn and it became too grating trying to follow the story.

The strength of CN's is that they have walls of texts that you can ignore and skim through the important points, the weakness of well-written CN is that almost every word is important so if you miss something you get lost. <<less

The story starts like a good junk food, something you can read without no expectations and have some fun on the way. But, the tale, unfortunatly, got a little boring along the journey.

Characters: 0/5

No one is memorable. The protagonist is a boring person who the writter try to retreat him as a saint. Sometimes, that backfire because he act as a hypocritical. He is really dumb in some situations, more s*upid than the villains. And the villains are too fool. Futhermore, they are almost the same individual, and because of... more>> that, the things get uninteresting really fast after the first 50 chapters. The heroine is dull as well, you can’t care less about her. Tedious and unintelligent side characters are the most part of people here.

Character development: 0/5

There are no development, so...

World building: 0/5

No good world building here, even after 100 chapters.

Fighters: 0/5

I just skip all them, is just the same bullsh*t of change of energies blast and sword techniques you don’t give a f*ck about them.

Story:1/5

The only positive point is how the writer uses the wuxias cliches to build good scenes where we can see the villains to lose their disputes, but nothing else. It’s a little funny how the author, sometimes, find faults with these ordinary techniques, but later, he build a MC who act like theses protagonists... <<less
