Note: While I'm a bit sardonic in this review, I am enjoying the story and looking forward to each new chapter. The ongoing Karmic retribution is quite satisfying!

Martial arts cultivation story. MC was a rising star for her first ten years, but then stalled out, with a junior rising in her place. Turns out the junior sister was stealing the MC's cultivation progress via a parasitical skill that was powered by MCs negative feelings. (The junior sister is cunning and emotionally manipulative, and preyed on the MC's naive generosity.)

At... more>> the depth of sudden complete betrayal, the MC develops legendary "Emotionless Dao" (aka "No f*cks to Give", aka NFTG) skill, which (aside from the obvious NFTG) provides massive regen abilities, etc. MC consequently recovers from the mu*der attempt, but then is further betrayed by the rest of her sword sect (not just the junior). At which point, an adjacent sword sect immediately adopts her (recognizing that she has the legendary NFTG skill).

After this, the MC adopts to her (emotionally positive) sword sect, sets out to develop her new skill and redevelop her cultivation (which had been reset to zero). She also has to deal with the members of her previous sect, who keep trying to attack, leach off and guilt trip her... But of course, she has no f*cks to give. And is bad ass anyway.

So it's a betrayal story, and somewhat a revenge story... Except the MC is not trying to get revenge; rather her betrayers keep own-goaling themselves as they attempt to harass, attack and guilt trip her. <<less

I don't know what to say about this novel. I feel conflicted about whether I should like it or not. I didn't enjoy the writing style, especially using the square bracket [ ]. Maybe it's a translation choice or the author's unique writing style? I get it if they use it since they are writing the system or game menu style, but it's a pure cultivation novel. The main character isn't a transmigrator who has a system, nor is she a gamer. Sometimes, they use it as an indicator of... more>> showing the characters' thoughts (it's the case for everyone).

I prefer novels with a show and don't tell narrative, but this story is the opposite because it is pretty straightforward. I'm still giving this a chance and waiting for the next update until completion. I'm already this far in the novel. Hopefully, there are more novels like this. I only seem to read three, including this one. <<less

This novel is amazing, the MC is overpowered sure but everything was deserved. Her persistence, kindness and willpower makes her stand above heroines of the same genre.

No matter what Li Shuang does not provoke unnecessarily, she only retaliates. Everyone of those old martial siblings of hers just keep sending themselves up to be face-slapped so bad, it was honestly pretty funny.

The story shines because the author does not neglect to make the side characters so colorful and as lovable as Li Shuang.

The way these characters are written are so smart... more>> and well done! You can really tell the author spent a significant amount of time to balance and build up the plot and the payoff is AMAZING! I knew it was going to head in a direction but I didn’t know just how, but the journey was amazing.

Most of all, Li Shuang despite cultivating the heartless dao does not neglect compassion.

Authors should take note that this is a great example of an exemplary Heroine. <<less

This is pretty bad. The main character is laughably over powered. Everything she does or has is legendary, to the point where it feels farcical. Honestly that's the biggest problem with this, it reads like a parody of itself. I'm not sure if it's the translation or the original text but it feels incredibly soulless and generic, I wouldn't be surprised if it was written by ChatGPT because it has that awkward flow to it. The main character has zero personality, she went from the sect doormat to emotionless beauty... more>> and that's it. She's so two dimensional you'd cut yourself on her. The rest of the cast barely exists. Those on her side are mindless cheerleaders for her and the antagonists are all unbelievably s*upid, I mean that literally, they would need to be brain damaged to get up to the stuff they do. I can only conclude the author intended this to be satire and people missed the point. There's no real overarching plot either, just the OP MC effortlessly smoking everyone. No tension, no mystery and its so badly written with cartoon villains that there's no catharsis. Compare it to something like "After changing to the ruthless way, the brothers cried and begged for forgiveness" which has a similar basic plot but is so much better. <<less

I'm not too far along but I'll write a review anyway, it's not bad, the MC's cool af, which is already a huge plus.

Buuuut, wtf is with those villains, I mean I knew what I was hopping in when I read the summary, but why do chinese authors love their white lotuses so much, literally the weakest kind of villain, it's only believable if I have no eyes and can't picture it. White lotus, by definition, on what I've seen, is basically someone who takes blame upon themselves but still... more>> manages to look like a victim, which is kind of oxymoron isn't it? If you admit blame, why would the others pity you, right? Also, it's just blatantly selfish, it's like you try to bring attention to self everytime, like the world revolves around you. I have deep hate within the hypocrisy of this character, but they love to make this thing a main villain, true it's an easy tactic to provoke the reader's emotions, but come on... also bonus points if you surround the white lotus with brainless idiots, the combination is peak CN novel writing................

But, it has indeed kept my attention, I'll keep reading until I'm tired of the face-slapping.

As for early chapters, I unleashed my best playlist to not frustrate myself too much. Too much attention on these villains and it's exhausting, I was hoping for a bit more attention in plot and strength building tbh, eh, maybe it'll smooth out later.

On another note, I love myself a good xianxia novel with FMC and no romance, problem is, why do they overuse some tropes so much, everything is a copy of a copy of a copy (Tyler Durden reference). At least, this novel isn't reincarnation which I find terrible, transmigration-possession also sounds weird and evil af unless it's with one's own body. How about, changing the premise, for example, clean sheet, no tragic background necessarily, or special attribute, just a character integrated into their setting, but becomes special due to their personality and hard work, no weird novel settings, predestined fate, what even is that. Crematorium, regret, who even cares about this stuff in reality, we'd love to have people around us who care enough to regret their past actions against us, maybe that's why it's a well-loved trope.

Authors are stuck on keeping a few well-marketed strategies and forget the actual point, you're writing a novel, where's your literary spirit, it's not about money, but about creativity, f*ck your art, it's not art, this is the same kind of hypocrisy your white lotus has. Literature used to classify as art...

Not everything I wrote applies to this specific novel, but, it does fit into the category. Eh, whatever, it's not that deep but it is a hobby, so, when the quality is bad, it feels akin to time wasted. Anyway, have a nice day, if that means anything to you. <<less
