“… Senior Sister, it’s only six in the morning.”

“Then what about yesterday? There was only one chapter!”

“… Romance slice-of-life stories rely heavily on the details. Inspiration is needed when writing.”

“Then, where does your inspiration come from? You’re clearly single.”

“… My imagination.”

“In that case, why don’t you date someone? You can get some material too.”

What is this rating?! Why does this novel have low ratings? It doesn't do justice for this hilarious novel. K can't understand people who gave this novel 1 star.

Please don't believe the rating, this novel is a high quality novel. It has hilarious interaction, a bit unique storyline. And it's not HAREM

The story is about a beautiful senior sister who continuously teases her junior brother, who is also her favorite webnovel author. So you can expect adorable, funny, and interesting interaction between them.

It's pretty good. Could be great, honestly, but I'm not sure where it's going. Basically about a guy who is writing a romance-oriented story, not sure if it's male- or female-oriented, but when he goes to college, he gets found out by his Senior Sister. She is actually the one who's provided some spicy illustrations, and thought the author was a girl all along. So now she's embarrassed and refuses to let him know who she is (because they've said some fairly racy things not knowing the other's... more>> gender), and yet is pretty constantly teasing him.

It's a fairly good romance, and I like the two main characters. It's very rare (at least translated and available for consumption) to have a modern day story with no supernatural, and no harem as well. I'm vaguely annoyed by the double-standard of the Senior Sister being embarrassed about it, and yet shows no comfort for when HE'S embarrassed. I guess it's the fairly standard 'person teases their crush'. The romance is very slow though. I honestly don't think they really romantically 'like' each other yet. The MMC is aware of how beautiful his Senior Sister is, and he's a pretty typical guy in that he'd be ok with going out with her, but is sidetracked by a) the pedestal he puts her on (older, beautiful, etc), and b) trying to hide his secret from everyone. The FMC is having a blast teasing him, in both her 'identities' (regular Senior Sister, and then novel-buddies who shared p*rn lol), yet staunchly denies any romantic interest.

As I said, pretty good, if slow moving romance. Given that the NU page lists 352 chapters I'm VERY curious as to what's going to happen though. That's a huge amount of chapters, considering I'm less than 10% through, and given that it's supposedly no drama no angst single heroine, I really have no idea what they'll do to fill up all those words.

For now though, I read it when it comes out and enjoy it. The FMC's double standard teasing isn't bad enough to throw me off, though I hope it doesn't get worse. And that's the only real thing I don't like. <<less

Edited review but leaving the OG at the bottom for transparency and also to show a classic example of someone jumping the gun:

So this story has a really good run until the confession. Which by that point the FMC completely changes personality in an incredibly jarring way, turning into a boneless tsundere. The MC also does some really shady sh*t involving the FMC's father to hide his own insecurity which I thought was pretty pathetic ... more>>
Spoiler

When his gfs father finds his novel he lies and says that the FMC writes it, which causes him to start donating a bunch of money to it as a way of supporting his daughter. Instead of fessing up and explaining the situation he continues the lie, essentially taking advantage of the FMC's strained relationship with her father because of his own insecurity (he's not trying to take advantage of her father, he feels bad about it, he's just too insecure to prevent it)

[collapse]

The FMC's personality change is so bizarre. She goes from a cool senior sister character with a playful personality to a girl with the emotional maturity of a middle schooler. I think it was the authors attempt of letting the MC get a little more footing in their dynamic, but I think they went way too far in the other direction.

Overall, I'd say the first 100 or so chapters are still worth reading despite this. It makes for an excellent romcom read. What comes after that isn't terrible but honestly feels like a bit of a blunder after what felt like a great start. I would also like to say there is still time for the story the course correct from the flaws I mentioned. The story isn't even halfway translated yet and at the point of the story I stopped reading the FMC did just experience massive emotional whiplash, so she can recover lol.

OG review:

This is by far the best Chinese slice of life romcom web novel I've read so far. It's incredibly tightly written in a way romcom web novels usually aren't. The setting feels well realized, even if it is just a college setting, and the side characters are great accompaniments to MC and FMC without overstaying their welcome. This story does an excellent job at something romcoms can suck at occasionally - the dreaded side character romance/plot taking up too much time from what readers are actually there for. Senior Sister, Shut Up! Has done an excellent job so far integrating the side characters own character moments within the framework of the main love story, making them feel like they are there to add depth to world and story while still pushing the narrative along, as opposed to feeling like an awkward third wheel.

It's possible that because I've read so many boneless "romcoms" that feel like hollow stories filled to push forward more cute moments, stories that fail to even get close to getting my heart pumping and yelling "dog food!" like a side character, that this novel feels like it has a golden halo around it. Maybe I am gassing it up too much. With that said, at worst, you will get an enjoyable romcom experience with some good fluffy suspense, not to mention a couple soft chuckles here and there.

If I were to provide any caution, it would be this: If you are the kind of reader that doesn't like the MC constantly being on the defensive end of the FMC's teasing, this novel probably isn't for you. I love that sh*t though, so I'm eating. <<less

Loving this so far! The interactions, the setting and relatively slow pace compared to other novels make it an enjoyable slice of life to read about. Very interesting side characters in this too, I hope their side stories get fleshed out and all.
