Some people rated this webnovel quite low because they hated how most of the male in this novel are scared shyt of their female partner (s), or how boyish or immature the MC was. And how "s*upid" harem characters in it were

Well here some justification.

Spoiler

The MC himself started of as a boy of age 15.. He wont the last battle around 2 years after that.. Only a freaking 2 years... Furthermore, his memories were sealed, and unfortunately he never get it back. As described in the novel, in his early childhood he was a genius, way too sharp and proficient in anything, he could handle everything flawlessly. After his memories were sealed and all his abilities, power and everything were taken from him, he was nothing but baby in 10 years old body.

So what do you expect a 5 years old mind in a 15 years body can do on his own?

[collapse]

He's a boy? Well yep, even a 30 years old guy can be childish, so what do you expect a less than 20 years old boy to behave? In fact, I found his personality way more real than some other novel out there. This is not some wuxia where even a boy in his teenage can go wild and r*pe some country princesses, while making a cool face trying to act mature, way too unreal and showing how childish the author can be.

For the harem.. Well its harem, so it surely gonna be a cliché. If you hate it so much why would you even read it?

At least in this story MC didn't forget anyone in his harem, he even tried to make schedules for them. People who said his harem is shyt must got some really bad eyes and have really bad taste. I dont like the harem too, but some people are being too BS that its laughable.

Future readers, please take at least a glance at the genre or tag. Don't read it if you can't stand harem cliché. Oh and MC is typical Japanese MC because apparently he lost all his memories prior 10 years old. <<less

One of the best novels I have ever read (and I've read hundreds).

The plot, the characters, their development through the story, the screentime and depth of each of the MC's harem members, the MC's reasoning/logic behind his actions - all of these are excellent in the novel.

To point out any flaws, the romance between the MC and his harem could have been more developed, although the author did logically point out it was best for him to make any of them pregnant while he was planning for war.

The MC's growth... more>> throughout the story is satisfying to read.

Spoiler

He starts off as a noble boy kicked out of his house due to his sister to becoming the emperor that unified the entire continent shortly after defeating his sister in the final battle with millions of soldiers and undead fighting for supremacy.

I'm so effing mad..

I don't even hate this novel.

But the amount of hype this novel has tricked me hard.

... more>> I'm not going to reveal anything about the story. But trust me it's not worth all the hype.

Feels like I'm reading a children's story by a author who knows how to write well.

And the ridiculously funny plot. And mind the plotholes.

And there's a Q and A where the author answers readers questions in his style by using characters from novel. Total B.S.

And mind you it's not like I started losing interest later on in the volumes, I tried to hold on seeing all the 5 star reviews.

But the moment it seemed to get better, it drove my expectations right back down.

In my whole six years of reading isekai and game elements, I wonder how I never thought of reading sevens as it was popular way back then too.

But having gone thru it now seems I had made a conscious right decision. <<less

Wouldn't say it was bad but it was nothing more than another standard zero to hero/revenge story, it takes patience to read one of these and I only did it cause I had nothing better to do, I'm not the type who likes to see the MC floundering around and doing dumb things one usually would not do all the while hoping that he'll eventually grow up, sure it may pay off when it happens but if you have to wait so many chapters for it then it's not something... more>> I consider worthwhile. As I said, I wouldn't call this a bad novel but the pros are not good enough to justify slugging through so many chapters, and what I hated the most about this story was the villain, it was just evil for the sake of being evil, the type to say "i despise all humans and they're all tr*sh" and we only get to know that by the end of the story, there's no real motivation other than being a psychopath and that doesn't make for an interesting villain, specially because we had to tolerate this b*tch until pretty much the last chapter and only then did we get a glimpse of her real thoughts... just for it to end up being utterly disappointing. Would I recommend this novel to anyone? Probably not. <<less

Sevens is a fun coming-of-age story where the protagonist grows from a highly dependent and depressed reject into a leader with his own aspirations. The supporting cast is colorful, and the main antagonist leaves a strong impression in the first chapter already. The main draw of the story are the various interactions between the characters, ranging from outright hilarious to bittersweet and sorrowful.

However, the story also has its fair share of shortcomings, of which some originate from its lighthearted nature and some from its setting. These problems rise to the... more>> surface especially in the final volume, the climax of the story: a lack of tension, inconsistencies with previously established mechanics, and multiple borderline ridiculous deus ex machinas. I wish that a certain member of the main cast had had proper development over the whole course of the story, instead of just at the end.

All in all, I do not regret embarking on the journey that was Sevens, but having finished it, some aspects of it did leave me with a sour taste. There are many ways, in which the story could have been better. That said, there was plenty to like as well, and I did find myself laughing out loud or even sad at times. <<less

I got bored of it. I only read the first 3 or so volumes and I could see that there was a promising story beneath the surface, but it failed to keep my attention long enough for it to emerge.

My favorite fiction novel is Sevens because it is unique compared to others of the same genre. At that time, the Japanese fantasy worlds consisted of main characters with abilities exceeding that of other characters. Sevens goes against the trend by creating an antagonist that is blatantly stronger than the main character at the start to emphasize how the main character has grown at the end to be able to face the main antagonist at the same level. The characters have diverse backgrounds with each one being different compared to each other. For example, the first heroine stays mysterious until the end of the story with her with the only detail told being that her family owes the main characters family their loyalty. One the other hand, the second heroine has her entire story told after their meeting with her joining the party to mature and become someone worthy of her family. While this story does follow the generic harem format, it does so differently compared to other stories that have a naive main character by making the main character actively try to expand the harem for political reasons so that he could fulfill his goal. In addition, the story accurately portrays the harem as that of history by making the harem a illusory battleground where the harem members compete to gain power. For each land the main characters travel to, the author tends to explain it to an obsessive extent. For example, when in a rural village, the author explains why outsiders are not welcome. Unlike other series, the author keeps a steady pace of the story and does his best to prevent side stories from occuring. During the story, the author had an opportunity to extend the story by tens of chapters and went against it for the sole reason of it being not directly related to the main character's goal. Every part of the story is done so to demonstrate the main characters growth or to increase his progression of getting to his goal.

The WN is an ok reading. I was about to drop it several times but my curiosity got the best of me.

The pros: The story premise is compelling, the rivalry presented, and the past lore although is not well explored or explained.

Cons: slow progress, the sevens have too much presence overshadowing the other characters, the absurdity of the villain's motivations.

A pretty good fantasy of noble family conflict, typical adventure guild quests, with a ludicrously huge harem. I just wish that Lyle the MC had a bit more of a personality. During all the trekking Lyle tends to get overshadowed by all the girls he picks up, or by his annoying ancestors; who are there to constantly advise him and mold his already sparse personality.

The adventure does get intense at times, with Lyle's overpowered little sister, but tends to drag during the downtime. Various factions start forming within the huge... more>> harem, making it more interesting than it deserves to be. Quite a few running gags are repeated ad nauseam and I ended up skipping a couple dozen of those pages. <<less

This should probably be 4/5. But, the ending irked me so much. So much that I've to give it a 2/5. Such a good novel, ruined because of one horrible chapter at the very end. A chapter that destroys everything you've read up to that point, and leaves you with a horrible taste in your mouth.

Good start. The women are decently written.

The MC is balanced alright. He's not overpowered. He's not even really powerful compared to the top female love interest.

The main villain is boring. Because the... more>> main villain ties into about 80% of all of the villains in this novel, it means that 80% of the other villains are boring as well.

If you read this novel.. That's fine. But, I highly suggest you stop reading just before the last chapter. Otherwise, you'll be angered. <<less

I am still reading this just so my time until now was not wasted.

The world building is good, the story is okay, and I suggest you dont take it seriously or as a smart novel otherwise you will be dissapointed. The MC is ignorant and idealistic, and he is supposed to grow thanks to the help of some kind of spirits of his ancestors that are inside his Jewell. Up to this point, its okay.

The girls in the harem, most of the time, are okay. Even more so, some have... more>> an actual personality! And even go against the MC's desires just to be wary of future problems. But then, when conflict between them all starts, they stop thinking and interacting like normal humans would, more than anyone, the MC... which makes sense because he is ignorant of the world as he spent most of his early teen years confined and apart from the world, except he is supposed to have the help of many mature men inside his jewell helping him! And my biggest problem is regarding the main love interest of the MC and her OHHH SO MISTERIOUS secrets:

Spoiler

The entire objective of the party is to defeat Celes (and to marry Lyle!) so it stands to reason that they should be suspicious and even hate Novem, when she is related to Celes! Not only related, but she has and IS EVEN UNTIL NOW keeping it a secret, not telling them how and why is she related to Celes, the ultimate villain they are supposed to defeat, even after at some point, it gets revealed when Novem saves Lyle from her.

To have in your party (main member of the harem even!) someone connected to your enemy and who wont reveal it (Novem might know Celes origin, weakness, and even more!!!) can be super stressful, and to add more to the wound, pu*sy ass Lyle asks them to just forgive her and be cool with it. Isnt that selfish and unreasonable? Isnt that like telling them that Novem is more important to him than all of them? Lyle might be okay to be idealistic, as he is ignorant of the world, but the girls, and the ancestors, shouldnt be, having blind trust on someone who is related to your enemy is just wrong... and how does the author try to resolve all this?! using a comedy relief plot armor --> Mr Lyle (if you dont know what it is, you wont get spoiled)

[collapse]

Enjoyable most of the times, but with some chapters and developments so awful and badly done that it might ruin the entire novel for some. Dont expect the MC or anyone to tell him how to act openly and be honest to others, or any normal social interaction in the harem... I dont know how this novel got so up in ratings with such a pu*sy MC <<less

Great story. Has perhaps my single favorite character ever in mr. Lyle and also the single greatest chapter of any web/light novel I have ever read (c135). Some small issues with the telling of the story, but the comedy and the originality far outweigh any quibbles I may have with it. Well played mr. Author!

Probably my favorite work I've read thus far on this site.

Sevens is the story of young Lyle Walt, the firstborn son of a noble house who is stripped of his home and title by his younger sister. From a servant who is sympathetic to his plight, Lyle receives an abandoned family heirloom: a gem that is soon found to contain the souls of seven of his ancestors, including his grandfather, his grandfather's father, and so on all the way to the First head of the Walt household.

The beginning caught my... more>> attention because from the get go, the story takes itself quite seriously. When Lyle is upended by his little sister, there is little humor to be found when Lyle is coldly rejected by his family at large and thrown into the outside world with little idea of his bearings. From there, the story evolves in dramatic motion as Lyle takes in the advice and experiences of his forefathers to become a true man of the Walt house.

The web novel is among the most ambitious works I've read, spanning up to over 300 chapters and transitioning from the days of Lyle cleaning sewers to being involved in conflicts on a continental scale. And among these very ambitious novels, Sevens stands out as possibly the most well executed. The story has a good amount of everything, with great world building, plot, humor, relationships, and dialogue. Moreover, the amount of detail in describing Lyle's journey and bringing to life the world around him adds an impact that I have not seen in any other work on this scale.

There are many other things I could say to describe the appeal of this story, but at the heart I believe the most memorable part of the story is Lyle's growth. You begin to develop a personal attachment to Lyle's character as you watch him start from 0, accumulate experience and deepen his relationships, and become the man he was always meant to be. It's really a deep experience that I feel shakes the soul.

Anyway, I have only 20+ chapters to go before to close it out. There's both incredible excitement in seeing how the story will conclude, but also a deep loneliness knowing that the end is in sight. <<less

I just wanted to say a few things since this was truly a memorable series. Whether it's good or not, it's a story that would leave you with some thoughts and feelings.

We watched the growth of our main character, Lyle, as well as the growth of his harem, every step of the way before finally reaching the climax and ending. And boy, what a climax and ending.

An epic grand finale, one that leaves you all excited and satisfied, and then a sad empty feeling when you realized it's time to... more>> say farewell, the long series and journey for Lyle as well as us readers is finally coming to an end.

Finally,

Sevens is a story War, Politics, Adventurous Romance and Relevance of Women.

A story that uses a lot of deep connection and foreshadowing, using complex web of intricate details of plot that solidifies the story from the beginning till the end. Wai/Mishima Yomu (The Author), uses a lot of elements and formulas of literature technique crafting Sevens into a beautifully woven web novel. That said, it's also enjoyable with its unique flavor of humor and exceptional construction of harem which is rare to find. Sevens focuses on Realism and Logical Practicality,... more>> there's not even once that Wai made this a story of cringe fest of moral story, this one is takes it another level by emphasizing the importance of Logical Decisions than letting moral dilemma takes over. This is also a story of Proxy Wars of Philosophy which is on another level of literature technique, using mysterious elements to question the existence of the characters and to question the purpose of each characters. This one is truly beautiful by also showing a a lot of satirical elements as well as the strong irony of the story which I found amusing than any other novels. Sevens is truly a story which can be read by both beginners as well as veterans, but all in all, Sevens stands out by practicing sensibility than preaching philosophies, a story that was abound by Logic. <<less

Well I don't Post much on this site (in fact this is my first post) I absolutely loved this story. Parts made me laugh and quite a few parts made me tear up pretty heavily. I've read hundreds of light novels and but this one will stick with me for a long time. I full heartedly recommend this novel. Some parts can drag on but when you finally finish it you can't help but smile and reminisce about the ancestor's interactions.

Ps God I'm going to miss reading about the ancestors.

A superb story, managing to combine the age old Hero's Journey-type story with modern Japanese fantasy. Avoiding most of the shallow tropes one would except of a fantasy story from Japan, it manages to be funny and clever while still holding a serious story. The realism of the harem is quite refreshing—though dream-crushing ;_;— turning the plot from simply being "hey lets get some more b*tches up in here" into one that is seriously about the framework that is necessary for Lyle's end-goal.

Definitely recommend reading.
