[If you enter the deep forest, you will be eaten by the shadows.

The shadows of the forest move when a person is not looking.

There is a shadow that mimics people in the deep forest.

The shadow of the forest speaks.]

Rosaline, of the Knights of the White Night, had gone missing after being attacked by enemy forces during a hunting contest.

However, she was found unconscious, badly injured, and lying beneath the cliff.

Rosaline, who woke up a few days later, seemed to have severe memory loss. It was difficult for her to speak even simple words.

She was found walking barefoot, in her pajamas, talking informally here and there. She would even pick up food off the floor!

She’s a strange girl no matter how you look at her. Is that really Rosaline?

I shall be the good guy here and write the very first review of this very underrated amazing novel at least for English readers.

Ignore the cover. It's not thriller, it's COMEDY-ROMANCE.

This novel is amazing, it'd take you into a rollercoaster of emotions. I personally have read up to chpatere 53 with my limited Korean vocabularies and the amount of tears I've shed is a lot. The first few chapters will be a bit on the darker side as it tells you about how Rosaline is ... more>>
Spoiler

apparently not really Rosaline.

[collapse]

I was actually prepared, just like from other 'COMEDY' tagged series, that the comedy will be getting less, and less, and less as the story unfolds, BUT NOPE. It gets funnier. The way the characters acts, even the side characters. The way the author describes their thoughts, the narration. It just gets better and better.

The world building is great. I can't really explain, but I love how thorough it is with the gods, the reason of their traditions, the whole thing about magic in their world, etc. Maybe it's the way author narrates it, maybe it's the details, but in any case, I love, love them.

Every second is enjoyable. I really recommend this one. Oh and translation is great! <<less

I really like this novel.

FL is adorable. She is cute and strong and her child like instincts brings fluff to the story. She tries so hard to protect the prince despite the fact that she is not a human and don't know him but keeps the promise to original Rosaline.

I also love the plot its quite intriguing and keeps you into the story. The character development in the novel is very good. Both ML and her brother are so lovable.

Looking forward for more chapters.

I'm never good at with reviews and probably will never be, but I just wanna say that gods be damned, this is the 2nd novel I've read with smooth and quality translation —kudos to the translation team.

At first, I read the 1st ch and never compelled to read further, however when I tried to read it again, I said to myself why didn't I continue reading this fresh gem from the start? I've only read 17 chs but boi, the story is just getting better and better each ch. —... more>> The main characters are such a breather and I can tell that the author fleshed out her characters really well alongside with their occassional animated and comical expression regarding the mysterious Rosaline.

Further, what I really love about this novel is the riche details about its characters' emotions and thoughts. The transition of varying emotions depicted in a scene is almost chilling that it sets the scene so beauifully. Aside from that, the development makes me want to see for more because the plot is that good.

This is my review for now but I definitely recommend this to everyone if you want a different troupe from reincarnation and transmigration. <<less

I dislike the usual possessions where the dead person who was possessed do not know that someone will take over their body after death. Not this one. The original Rosaline clearly asked the shadow a favor. I find it acceptable.

I came to adore the MC Rosaline and find myself laughing at her antics and interactions with other people. She's so lovable. ML is very likable. I like him.

This is the very first Korean novel I enjoyed. So fun!!!

Excellent story

Excellent translation

I want to say so many things but it would spoil everything... this is one of those where it's best to read and discover things as you're reading.

... more>> And if something seems confusing or weird, take note, because it's important, it can either be explained by a small detail that happened before, or it will be the small detail that will matter later.

It's filled with mysticism and wonder and... it really takes you to a different place with each chapter.

So well written, excellent world building, FANTASTIC translation that helps with the nuances of the original story that may be lost in translation.

And above all, I just love the pacing so much, there is always "something" happening that advances either the plot or serves wonderfully for character development, things don't really drag on or feel that they stall for too long, it takes enough time to set up everything appropriately.

Charismatic characters, intriguing villains, wondrous mythos that feels unique although familiar.

This is a must read. <<less

And thank you very much to the translator for sharing it with us.

The writing is superb. It succeeded in making an eerie atmosphere. I still get goosebumps re-reading some chapters. The comedy is f**king gold and balances the horror really well. If you want to read a mystery, horror, comedy with a dash of wholesomeness novel, this is for you. Also, the translation is just *chef's kiss*

I'm so happy I stubbled across this gem :')

This novel is so wild, like I would be laughing at her antics in the beginning of the chapter but got slightly creeped out at the end of the chapter.

It’s a comedy but it’s a serious novel, idk how to describe. Anyway just read it, u’ll like her (the FL), she’s weird but she’s good weird? 😂 The translation is great as expected from wook-nim 😍

One of the rare Korean novels with a female protagonist that I enjoy. Because, unlike other novels, Rosaline is actually really strong and doesn't need an ML to depend on. I mean Rosaline is the one doing the protecting, not the ML which makes for a very fun dynamic. In many books, the female main character is portrayed as someone capable, yet she ultimately becomes a damsel in distress. I have nothing against those characters, but it gets soooo repetitive that I immediately drop the story when that happens (unless... more>> I'm just in it for the romance).

Whether it be the past or the shadow-possessed Rosaline, both of them have their own strengths that shine through. It doesn’t focus on how other characters helped them but rather on their character development. Rosaline is such an endearing character, that even if you remove the ML, she could carry the story on her own (I do love Ricardis tho, their relationship is very cutesy).

It is a novel that truly reflects its genres. Definitely recommend! 5/5 <<less

I pulled an all nighter reading this. That's all. It's fantastic and I love this story.

Pros

  • Unique spin on transmigration themed stories -- and it's done really well.
  • Cool lore.
  • Mostly enjoyable writing style.
  • Subversive ML filled with nuance, fun banter, and cool twists.
  • MC has great character growth.
  • Finally, a super physically OP female MC. I love her.
  • Political intrigue, assassination attempts, and more!
Cons

  • Some dialogues very clearly used for exposition, so they are cluncky and neverending.

A mark of great translation is to read how they address translation choices.

This is a note in one of the chapters:[demon in this story refers to people who born with magic, and is described with the hanja (魔人) : 魔 means ‘demon; magic’ while 人 means ‘person’. We will not translate it as ‘magical person’ unless you want put 2 comedy tags for this novel.]

Read this, you won't regret it.

Finally a strong female MC. This is really funny and entertaining. Takes a while for the story to really begin but it's definitely worth a read.

I don't like this. Part of that reason is because my hopes (that were raised bc the translator made a point of equating the naming conventions to Chinese novels and language, and made me hope that the author as well as these translators would have good taste) were dashed.

I read just far enough to get the general tone that the author would set, and was not impressed. I know that it's supposed to be a comedy (from the other reviewers), but I really feel that the bu*t of the joke... more>> is the fMC. For goodness sakes, the first chapter isn't even being told from the fmc's perspective but a (n) unmentioned (male) character.

The reason why I even clicked in, is because I saw the sweet spot words, Physically strong 'F'MC. Tf WHY do I have to start out the novel with an aggrieved younger brother 'siscon' pov??? And for those introductory chapters to be also detailing how *absurd* n *savage* the fMC is to the perspective of a male character anyway??

Like I said, my impression is that this so called comedy is gonna be centered on how absurd and idiotic the MC is in the eyes of others, when I expected that the comedy would be centered on the mc's clumsy romp through this world that would be seen as terrifyingly absurd in the eyes of others.

One definition makes MC a harmless chump, and the latter makes her a force to be reckoned with. But alas, what else was I expecting from Korean novels. Korean novels always nerf their female (supposedly op) characters like this.

I hope that my review is helpful for other prospective readers who see all those other positive reviews. 🙂 The translations are very good though, so if you're already used to the standards of Korean writing and their fmc's, then this is really a good one! 5/5 <<less

This one is seriously wonderful, the comedy is abundant while not being over done and there are no dry jokes. The plot is well made and one of a kind. Even the ML's backstory is unique, I seriously love it ❤️❤️❤️

I'm just adding another 5 stars review here. This is absolutely a gem! And translation is top notch. This novel actually has serious plot, yet the comedy blend in very well. I'm currently at the part where the naive MC was proposed a marriage by another man and the ML tried very hard to distract her. He knew that MC was weak to beautiful things so he used himself as beauty trap. It's soooo hilarious.

It’s a really a good novel!

if you like strong or OP female lead (MC) then this is a must read.

She is a little bit dense... or childish sometimes but I think it’s cute. (〃ω〃)

There is a bit romance here and there.
Spoiler

I think the second prince is the male lead.

Spoiler

I like to see the interaction between the siblings.

I've only discovered this novel yesterday, and have to say I'm seriously impressed by it. Maybe it's because I've read a few too many cliché novels recently, but the concept in this book feels incredibly fresh and original. Even better yet, it's properly fleshed out with interesting ideas throughout.

I also love the way the tone switches from dark to comedic seamlessly. Characters are well written, the world building is pretty good, and the main characters shine through.

It's been such an interesting read throughout, and the translation is also absolutely fantastic.... more>> The translator has done a great job in making it easy to read and understandable. Seriously, kudos to them for doing such great work!

Very excited to see the novel's further development! <<less
