“……Elliot Brown. I will take him as my bedchamber attendant.”

Im Sung-sik, the ‘Employee of the Month’ who has mastered all kinds of service jobs, and Elliot, the antagonist supporting character he possesses in a tragic BL novel.

Originally, all characters were supposed to die at the hands of the original male lead, Argen. To avoid ghostwriting the love letter that starts this tragedy, Elliot tried to live quietly, hiding his past as a writer. However, due to unavoidable circumstances, he becomes Argen’s bedchamber attendant.

To make matters worse, the original male lead discovers his identity as a writer, and he ends up ghostwriting letters to Argen…

But this Duke seems somewhat different from what was seen in the original work…!

Can Elliot avoid the dead ending by moderately ghostwriting the letters?

[Preview]

“It’s your first day, so let’s see your skills.”

He said this as he placed the book he brought on the bedside table. Argen’s face was the picture of serenity as he got under the covers and closed his eyes. It was a stark contrast to Elliot, who knelt on one knee beside Argen’s bed with a deadpan expression.

“Um, do I really… have to do this?”

“Don’t dawdle. Start right away.”

Argen seemed fully prepared, even wearing a thick, soft-looking blindfold. Elliot looked despairingly at the artistically raised nose bridge under the blindfold, the red and plump lips, and the flawlessly white cheeks.

Unbelievable. This is really absurd.

“I’ll say it one last time. Begin.”

The mythically beautiful protagonist seemed to be running out of patience. Elliot reluctantly opened his mouth. Ah, eh, ee, oh, oo.

Why on earth does a bedchamber attendant have to do this…

Elliot took a deep breath, squeezed his eyes shut, and opened his mouth.

“Hush… hush…”

“…”

“Hush… hush~ Our, our Du-Duke~ Hush-a-bye~ Sleep so soundly…”

Is this… right?

No, really. Is this correct right now?

The dynamic between the MC and ML really is the best! I binge read the main story (105 chapters) via a translation extension and there was no time reading I felt was boring. The story was overall very entertaining, the plot, characters, and even the world building grew naturally and even more than I expected based on the first few chapter. The plot isn't very complicated or deep, but the main characters easily make up for it imo. There's touches of magic, both more and less important, that gives the... more>> story the charm of "a magical world". However, the magic system is not complex or very detailed so if you can accept the the world for its simplicity you will enjoy it.

Following the MC's perspective, especially his thoughts, is really quite humorous. MC transmigrates from the ordinary world where he's the epitome of a hard worker who meets the costumer with a perfectly fake smile while cussing them out on the inside. He ends up in a novel as a writer, but has no experience with writing with emotion and sensibility. Because rent is due, a too familiar feeling from his previous life, he figures he can just take on any work and doesn't have to stick to writing. He wants to avoid the characters ill fate he knows about and has no interest meeting the real main characters or interfering to take on a bigger role, he simply just wants to live, but he still can't escape fate completely. He has a soft heart and is very empathetic, easily feeling sympathy and sorry for others to the extent that he can't stop himself from helping others even when he knows he should just mind his own business if he wants to avoid getting entangled in the plot of the story. To change his own fate, he must change ML's fate too, he becomes a mediator to subtly stir the plot in another direction, but eventually finds himself in the middle of everything and becomes an even more important character than the original.

ML is the typical secret rightful heir to the throne who's been sent to war on the battlefield in hopes of mysteriously disappearing or meeting a "tragic" ending. But because he is simply too strong to be killed, he remains a threat and is in a unspoken power struggle with the emperor. ML is used to being treated according to his high status amongst nobles where every interaction is either fake or an attempt of deception, or both. Because of this, he is moved by the the new hired staff (MC) who he can hear cuss him out under his breath and has no interest in gaining his favor or getting closer to him. He easily sees through MC's "customer service smile" but because MC still maintains is, knowing he does, their interactions become kind of like a play of pretend which ML finds amusing and MC finds irritating. MC has a way with words to make himself out to be a lowly person who wouldn't date to demand a noble's attention in hope of MC leaving him alone, but it has the opposite effect since ML wants to understand why he's so against receiving gifts and why he would do favor for others just because he feels sympathy towards them, while neither asking or expecting anything in return. ML searches for ways to expose his hidden schemes but the truth always comes out, which is that there are none. ML tries to become someone un important who draws no attention but because ML keeps him so close he can't help but get to know him more too. They open up, trying to make the other one open up, and learn that they have more in common than they thought.

Meanwhile, the plot of the story (the novel plotline that they're in) progresses and more characters get involved with both MC and ML. MC feels both hatred and sympathy for ML, while ML is moved by MC's words and actions that are too bold for his fragile body and mind that ML can't help but want to protect him.

Personally, I think that MC is not weak. While his body cannot compare to that of a soldier, he's way smarter than he gives himself credit for. He knows what to say to get out of dangerous situations while being allowed to leave because the other person is convinced it was their own choice and they still have him completely in their control. He's good at stalling, gaining more time to figure out what to do. He's aware of his disadvantage in status and strength, as well as knowing he's not someone with a mind that can make a plan of what to do several steps ahead. He does the best he can based on his abilities and that makes him very human and relatable. Most MC's are often 200 IQ, 4D chess, brains who uses the knowledge of the plot to achieve something grand or become someone important. While it's not less interesting to read, it's feels liberating to read about someone who's just a regular person. He's by no means s*upid, nor is he a naive and easily taken advantage of, he's just a person that's met with a lot of life's colder lessons but deep down just wants to live a life he can enjoy. While the ambition might not seem grand, especially to things like protagonist aiming to save the world, it was actually very interesting to follow. The way he MC and ML manage to move each others hearts is imo very well-written as their development feels natural and in-character for them both.

Inevitable, there are moments when thinking several steps ahead like seeing through someone who sees through you or making important decisions that depend heavily on how other people will react where miscalculation can be fatal. Seeing through the surface is somewhat of a reoccurring theme and it gives the story more depth, as well as making the characters more than one dimensional.

Overall a great read, I see no big flaws and it's a quite light hearted read despite being about war and occurrences of death. For me, it just had that extra charm that made sure it was never boring to the point of taking a long break or putting the story on-hold to finish it later which happens a lot to me. The ML and MC are both green flags and there's something sweet about the atmosphere when both characters are denying that sweetness between them even exists. If you like their dynamic the story is definitely worth checking out.

The way I rate is heavenly influenced by how I feel when I've finished a story, the taste it leaves. Such as if there are a lot of questions unanswered, if there's are any lose ends, if the ending make the story feel complete or if the story fell off towards the end.

Personally, I'd give it 4/5 stars for plot and 4.5/5 for the extra charm and overall feeling. But because the rating is so unexpectedly low I feel it deserves a 5/5 to make up for it. I came from the newly started manhwa which drew my interest, because of the lower rating I was expecting the MC and/or ML would become toxic or that the story wasn't very well-written but non these were true. It was just as good, if not better because it was a lot more. <<less

Although I do agree, with the other comment, I still really loved the story.

Yes. This kind of love story is not really down to earth, but for 105 chapter certain readers still can enjoy a glimps of beutiful and heartwarming love.

Maybe that's why I read it in one sit. It was bittersweet, funny, also tragic, but still interesting.

... more>> The concept is really unique. Maybe it is one of the main thing which engaged me until the very ending.

I leave this quote here, as a reminder for myself and future readers, what made their relationship so deep, teary and lovely:

"You showed me that love doesn’t have to be about heartbreaking pain and world-shaking transformation." <<less

The story itself starts out interesting.

But the protagonist has no self-respect, despite his character, he is too servile for nothing. It's as if he's not from the modern world, but a s*ave from an ancient world where his life was worthless.

He may have valid plot reasons from his past to behave this way, but because of this behavior he doesn't inspire any interest or respect as a character, only annoyance.

It's very strange that such a person without an ounce of self-respect, acting like a servant girl, can generate ML love.... more>> Only if further along in the story the character is in the role of a toy rather than an equal partner. <<less
