This novel had so much going for it in the beginning — and for the most part, it delivered an addicting blend of system-monitored reincarnations, palace intrigue, and modern-world echoes. Most of the story centers around a revenge arc, with the FL transmigrating into the body of a woman wronged in the Qian Dynasty. At first, it seems like a straightforward tale of palace revenge and survival — but subtle clues begin to surface, hinting that this is just one layer of a much bigger picture. Eventually, it’s revealed that... more>> the story spans multiple lifetimes across two worlds, with a mysterious system (001) acting as an omniscient observer, quietly shaping events and twisting fate behind the scenes. That layered setup alone almost kept me turning pages, until I started getting bored after the first Villain dies.

What Worked:

A tough, unyielding female lead.

Shen Yuling

is a woman forged by catastrophe. It was refreshing to see a FL who doesn’t exist to be saved by men — she uses them strategically to achieve her mission. She navigates ancient politics, revenge plots, and manipulative love with fierce independence. For a good portion of the story, she’s in control, cool-headed, and even a bit cold, which honestly was a breath of fresh air.

Genre-bending timelines.

A large chunk of the novel — easily 90% — takes place in the Qian Dynasty, where Shen Yuling is transmigrated. At first it seems like a typical transmigration plot, but over time, we learn that there are multiple layers of past lives and reincarnated versions of the same characters — which is a super cool concept.

The problem? The unraveling of these layers is rushed and messy, crammed into the final 10% of the novel. There’s barely enough time to process the magnitude of it all, and it ends up feeling confusing and underdeveloped.

What Fell Short:

Thematic betrayal.

The core message seems to be: “A woman should control her own fate.” But by the end, the FL ends up ceding control to the ML, who becomes the omniscient Big Boss. They settle into classic, even cliché, Emperor–Empress

roles. She starts as someone subverting tropes, only to become a trope herself. Major letdown.

Plot device overload (Grand Tutor & Phoenix Seal?).

Out of the blue, the author introduces the Grand Tutor and his wife, who apparently activate a Phoenix Seal, gain access to the system, and explain the entire world structure to the ML. It comes from nowhere, has no setup, and worse — is never explained again. It felt like lazy patchwork to move the plot instead of meaningful world-building.

Strangely absent maternal emotions.

Shen Yuling has a son — Xiyao — but shows shockingly little emotional conflict about leaving him behind. There’s no chapter showing a mother struggling with the choice, no longing, no breakdown. She just... lets go.

Maybe it's refreshing that the FL isn’t defined by motherhood, and yes, she does seem to pave the way for his success indirectly, but emotionally it felt too cold and disconnected. A single scene showing hesitation or sorrow would’ve added so much humanity.

Loose ends galore.

Xitong completely disappears by the end — what happened to her?

We never find out if Xiyao is reborn in other timelines or has a counterpart. That feels like a strange omission, especially since reincarnation is central to the plot. You’d expect at least some acknowledgment.

In the final "reset, " it’s unclear whether Shen Yuling and Quan Minghe have children or what kind of life they build together. It all feels hastily tied up with vague emotional closure, but little narrative detail.

Final Thoughts:

This novel was bold, twisty, and at times, deeply compelling. The FL shines brightly — until she doesn’t. The systems, the dual timelines, the emotional manipulation — all made for a juicy ride. But in the end, it couldn’t hold onto the very message it tried to deliver.

Worth a read if you enjoy powerful FLs, palace drama, and reincarnation arcs — just don’t expect the payoff to match the setup.

Rating: 3/5 – Started strong, brimming with promise, but ultimately lost in its own contradictions and rushed finish. <<less

This is my third novel from this author and it does have very very similar plot to the other two (it shares the same universe with her second novel) except this was slightly more dog blooded.

Characters-

ML- QUAN MINGHE, he's more scummy so he suffered more.

FL- shen yuling, is more heartless and selfish!

Plotwise, I prefer her first two novels just because I love the romance more. But I'm looking forward for the modern arc and it might changed my mind so who knows.

Warning/spoiler about FL involvement with other men.

Spoiler

FL act intimately with other men other than the ML so if you thrown off by that dont read this! FL was involved with 3 men! ML the emperor, OG ML which she's taking revenge on and her childhood sweetheart. She has no moral whatsoever and is willing to do whatever it takes to achieved her goal, although she didnt really sleep with tge OG ML but she did it with the childhoodsweetheart after switching body and separation from the ML although she realised her own feelings afterwards

Who she ends up with.

Spoiler

at the end the of the day the one she truly love is still the emperor our ML!!

Regardless this was a 4.5 read, not as good as the other two but not bad either <<less
