After waking up, Zhao Xing finds himself as the Minister of Agriculture in a fantasy game. To make the dynasty prosperous, he trains in the Seasons Order, mastering techniques like Weather Harmony and Summoning Storms, ensuring Bumper Harvests and making All Things Grow. Quietly, his influence begins to spread across the land.

As his power grows, Zhao Xing joins the army, wielding the legendary Four Agricultural Books. He freezes thousand-mile-long rivers to clear the way for the troops, unleashes Poisonous Miasma to wipe out enemies, and conjures Fog Shadows to block entire armies. His battlefield victories are unmatched, earning him the title of Great Minister of Agriculture as he slowly takes control of the dynasty’s destiny.

In pursuit of even greater strength, Zhao Xing begins raising mythical creatures like Mountain Spirits and Wild Monsters. The Twin Lotus grants him immunity to fire and water, while the Seven-Star Sword Bamboo sends a sword light that chills the Nineteen Provinces. Parasitic Seeds feed on living beings for nourishment, while Void Seeds take root in space, absorbing the spiritual energy of heaven and earth. Zhao Xing creates his own Inner Scene Realm, nurturing immortal seeds.

As his powers reach new heights, the Taiyi Divine Lotus spawns countless avatars, and the Ancient Tree of Life grants him eternal life.

“A single true seed in his dantian can grow into a spiritual seed that will live for ten thousand years. One day, when my cultivation is complete, my fate will be determined by me, not by heaven!”

Mastering the elements, life, and the Dao, Zhao Xing rises to become the legendary Shennong Daojun!

This is a transmigrated into a video game cultivation novel with a focus on acquiring power.

The setting is a bit unique. It takes place in a game our protagonist transmigrated into but in the past history of the game. In this time the extremely powerful emperor had set up a very strict system controlling the cultivation, fate and longevity of people in the empire based on the bureaucracy / military. One cannot ascend past the first stage of cultivation unless they become an official and higher ranks will allow higher... more>> stages. So naturally there's great competition for official positions and they are the goal of most ambitious people. Additionally one can be allotted longevity by the government as a reward. The future when the game takes place is one of decline. There's mention of dynasties tending towards decline in the future where resources are squandered and cultivation/immortality becomes more difficult. Even the land is referred to as a wasteland. So our MC is looking to take advantage of the current period while the getting is good with a focus on amassing longevity to live until the period of the game which will require some serious effort and planning. I find the setting interesting as there's a strong focus on serving the country and people and following the established order which isn't very common.

Our protagonist was an agrarian type cultivator in the game and is sticking to it in his new life. As you'd guess it's based on farming but is no slouch in combat with cloud based skills that control the battlefield, bamboo or grass soldiers that act as versatile temporary summons, controlling yin wind from deep within the earth to attack souls of his enemies, and manipulation of the earth, rain and wind for multiple purposes.

Personality wise he is pretty steady; polite and patient. He's not afraid of hard work and is pretty driven with a typical powergamer mentality. He takes advantage when he knows he can get away with it and seeks to maximize his benefits in all things but isn't miserly. It's kind of hard to pin down his true personality as the current world order rewards people who are stereotypically "good." He's good at appearing this way outwardly but internally seems a bit detached from the world in general in a video game player sort of way.

His knowledge of the future and game world hasn't been too overpowered as of yet. The main boon he's gained is early access to a previous sect's dream training area which has powerful rewards that have not yet been looted. He gets a pill early on which really boosts his progress. Due to in-game PvP experience he has a good idea of what most cultivation styles are about and how they perform in combat, this also allows him to excel as an agrarian cultivator which many underestimate. He also is generally knowledgeable about cultivation and the world in general.

The style of the novel is a bit dry with the focus on cultivation, gaining and practicing skills, and advancing his position. If you're more focused on fights/relationships/face slapping this might not be the easiest one to get into. The MC does make friends, interact with people, and get in interesting fights but he is pretty focused on his main goal of gaining power and immortality. It scratches a certain itch for me so I'm currently into it.

The translation by DaoistStories is solid. I don't notice any of the usual common errors. Conversations do seem a little stilted or strongly formal but it fits the period setting. It might just be the style it was written in. <<less

Idk, there was just no real hook to get the reader into the story. The starting chaps were mostly filler content to make it more slow paced with a somewhat full story so far. There are Chinese cliches in between like the unlikable arrogant antagonist to spice things up a bit, but again, they are bit cliche.

The most unique thing about this novel is he reincarnates into a video game world that was a sensation. He came before the main starting point. And there is also a system, meaning there'll... more>> be the endless system filler later. And most likely, together with the endless vrmmo filler / copy pasta things to beef up the word count.

The other reviewer MeatEating sums up the novel better than I can, as I barely read the novel considering how slow paced it is too. To me though, I was expecting something completely different from the banger cover image. In my opinion, the story is just an every other Chinese novel to me due to the filler content and copy pasta structures it'll prob follow like most. <<less
