The novel is super 1-dimensional. Characters are practically introduced for 1 purpose and then never shown again. Not only that, but the novel is written in a way that is super convenient for the MC, not to mention that he's a gary stu.

The MC is introduced as a character who lives in the bu*t f*ck of no where and lives on top of a hill with his sheep, with a small village at the bottom of the hill. Not only did he grow up without a father, he was taught... more>> everything by his mother who died 5 years ago. He doesn't even have a mentor in the village or anything. In fact, he has a hostile relationship with the whole village because he beat all of them up when they tried to take his farm after his mother died. This is all in the prologue btw.

The description for this novel is also ass. Wizards are just descendants of gods, and all nobles are wizards, where there are noble heads that are super strong. The description is written like he's some super strong wizard who decided to become a shepherd in the middle of no where, but in reality, no one knows his secret because he's in the middle of no where, he's not particularly strong, and it's not even a secret for long, because it's not like wizards are something that the common people don't know about.

Examples:

In the aforementioned scenario, sure, it's explained that wizards have a stronger body, but you're telling me a 13 year old beat up a village of people who can beat up predators like leopards and wolves? Without using magic, because his mother told him never to use magic, mind you.

How come, in his 18 years of life, this is the first instance of a magic beast, since it's the first time a wizard needed to be called?
Spoiler

The first city he goes to he hunts over thirty magic beasts, some are weak, but it's explained that a wizard must absorb the energy or else it could become an undead spirit. It also introduces 4 'beast hunters', non-wizard people who hunt magical beasts, who say they can only barely beat the weaker ones as a group. So, even if the village was strong enough to beat the weaker ones, they would still need a wizard to absorb the magical energy. The MC beating them before the villagers know makes even less sense because he doesn't know that you have to absorb the energy, so at least one undead spirit should've appeared in his 18 years, which he also doesn't know existed.

[collapse]

Even though he is supposedly hiding his ability to use magic, he uses magic for his shepherding tasks. He doesn't even have a shepherd dog and he lives in walking distance to the village.

It takes him 2 days to go to the nearest city, but at a faster speed. Supposedly, the distance he travelled in the first day would take 3 days of walking for the average person, but then he speeds up by 'several times' around noon on the second day to reach it by sunset. The wizard, the village chief went to the city to hire, arrived only a few days later after the leopard was found. The villagers also supposedly treat him badly for some reason, even though he's a wizard who, by definition, has a higher status.
Spoiler

He doesn't even meet a single wizard in the city as well. The knights who work for the city don't even kill the nearby magic beasts who threaten the common people. So, the village leader got extremely lucky not only encountering a wandering knight, but practically instantly upon arriving to the city. I guess villages getting wiped out by one magical beast is common in this world.

[collapse]

Spoiler

On the way to the city, he meets some bandits who he experiments his magic on, with no hesitation or remorse or anything for his first human kills, just because his mentor told him that sparing one is like killing ten innocents. At the same time, he gets mad at nobles for treating their knights like human shields. The reason the bandits attacked him, is because he was polite, even though the MC is not only perfectly fine with no supplies in a wasteland where the nearest village was 3 days away, but he's walking at three times the pace of a normal person with no sweat. The purpose of this encounter was just to 'teach' the MC not to show weakness, which they say outright.

[collapse]

They don't even lean into him not having a lot of common sense or having a lack of knowledge that much.
Spoiler

The mentor pretty much teaches everything he needs to know mostly over 3 days, until he reaches one of, if not the only, library in the world with over a thousand books. Even when he encounters something outside his knowledge, like when the MC tried to get directions from a vendor who he deemed to be the 'most relaxed-looking', he just knows what to do. The fruit vendor rudely tells the MC to get lost when the MC asks them a question, even though the MC obviously seems like a country bumpkin, and the MC somehow just knows that it means to buy something if he wants to answer a question.

Then, at the library, he learns everything from common knowledge, to the basics of magic, to even scientific concepts like friction and microorganisms, over 15 days. He also just understands everything instantly. It's not like he has some epiphany later and then understands what the knowledge actually means. Instead, he just uses scientific concepts like friction in his magic right away.

[collapse]

Spoiler

He also fights a rabbit who blocks his projectiles with its teeth. Because of that he deems it to be immune to projectiles and decides to stab its throat from concealment. Hit it at a different angle? Use magic to trap it somehow? Nope, just creep up to it in concealment and stab its throat while it just stands there.

[collapse]

Spoiler

Another obvious one is that it has been said that non-humans are evil multiple times. So, later he comes across a guy getting attacked by some Dark Elves. Instead of assuming that they're evil, like he was told by literally everyone, he waits to see. Conveniently, instead of continuing the attack, the Dark Elves randomly decide to pull out a human hand to snack on. It then proceeds to a bullsh*t fight. The MC has this absolutely OP spell where he can do complete concealment. He can make sounds without anyone hearing him, and even light being shined on him only increases the magic consumption. He kills one with a projectile from concealment, so the other Dark Elf shines light in all directions. Instead of hiding behind a tree or something because they're in a f*cking forest, he decides to reveal himself in the open and almost dies.

[collapse]

Spoiler

Also, he pretty much only uses the same projectile attack so what the f*ck was the point of experimenting on the bandits and showing the reader what he can do if he never does it?

[collapse]

I've already listed so many examples, but all the chapters are just full of bullsh*t so this doesn't even cover all of it, and I've only read 14 chapters. <<less

This series has quickly become a new favorite of mine. Interesting setting, actually fresh magic system, the MC is both not annoying and competent but not OP and by no means anywhere near the top of the power system (at this point) and while the plot is currently more of him exploring a new world (which serves well to continue to expand the setting which is really interesting) there are already plenty of scattered plot hooks towards his past and an overarching plot. Finally the translation has no issues that... more>> I've seen and chapters are decent length and release fairly frequently. Only complaint is I wish there was more! Definitely checking for new chapters daily from now on. <<less

So far, this is one of the better novels I've read on this website. I'd give it a 4.6 or a 4.7 out of 5.

This novel in essence is about a wizard that was once a Shepard. The world building is pretty good, and I think the author put a lot of thought into it.

Spoiler

For example, one of the mysteries was about the parentage of the protagonist, with who is mother and who is father is. I'm not sure how to explain it but I think it is written pretty well

[collapse]

Spoiler

Another piece of good world building is how the magic works, as well as how it scales, obviously most of the power scaling is still yet to be seen at where I'm reading but it looks good so far. The magic works by "bloodlines" which are in essence classes or jobs. The MC is obviously pretty powerful with multiple bloodlines within him. I think this is written well enough since it doesn't feel like he is too overpowered and just rolls over people

[collapse]

Dialogue: One common irk that I have is with poor dialogue writing, esp in JP novels where nobody talks like a normal person. I think the dialogue here is written to the extent that it is very readable.

Other misc stuff: The MC is a bit of a gary stu, I don't think it is written badly at all, and rather I think its written quite well. He isn't too much of a gary stu and I think it's fairly believable as to why the MC is powerful

Romance: Yet to be seen, there is one female friend that the MC has, I'd assume if the author is going to write a romantic interest she would be the one but otherwise there is little to be seen here <<less

A very good read! It's got a surprisingly normal protagonist with quite a few interesting misteries about himself.

A pretty cool fantasy setting that has just these great details that hint at a much deeper origin and history to it.

In general this feels like a novel with a lot of potential, with great pacing and good translation.

Excellent read around forty chapters in and I'm enjoying it a lot. It progresses nicely and character interactions are well put together. I'm giving this five stars. Hopefully it won't derail and turn to cow muck. Translation has been pretty good only one time was I ranting basement or cellar not Attic. Seriously only one time was anything off.

Continuing on it's still excellent I personally like how the currency is different everywhere also customs and finally language seems to be universal due to past influence but other races... more>> seem to have other languages. While the currency is a minor detail it's a breath of fresh air in a smog filled wasteland of copouts. <<less

TLDR: Very interesting read. Suspect it's written by a newbie author though, a very good noob. The story is a big too fast paced, making for a lack of things, but at least the chapters are long, making better chapter flow and immersive reads. And again, the story went so fast that we are basically at its conclusion point when not even halfway through the chapter count yet. I still suggest reading though, the unique magic system and the mysterious setting/plot points to uncover made up for the lacks

The... more>> fresh yet interesting magic system, together with the novel's unique settings, made this a weirdly addicting read. The MC was a very likeable and relatable character too.

There is a deep mysterious overarching plotline/setting to uncover. You get a mash of what many weak to strong novels spanning thousands of chapters do in a more concise and interesting manner. Together with the unknown world to explore. The long chapters made for a more lingering read flow.

However, it wasn't all perfect. The novel started slow paced, and felt somewhat like a typical martial arts novel start, but from the moment he leaves his home, the story becomes pretty fast paced. He goes from zero to hero in a span of a few months; traveling basically the whole world already, discovers world breaking secrets, and has strength that already soon rivals the top great house heads. Mind that, this was all with filler content (though very likeable for once). It was just that the arc structure event spacing was kinda poor. Each place only had one event with a massive power spike up for MC. All mini arc endings were also usually rushed to a conclusion.

His unique setting was also instantly thrown away, the literal name of the novel. And it quickly became a typical weak to strong traveling story, like most martial arts novels. Also note the MC looks literally nothing like the cover Pic. His hair is Grey, his eyes too, and his eagle is literally a golden eagle, not a falcon.

Due to the amount of traveling and fast pacedness of the story, lots of things don't get fully explored into. We also get an unnecessary amount of dead romance in this novel. The MC is a dickless man with 0 lust. And the author keeps overly emphasizing that every girl either likes the MC, or their family asks for a marriage with the MC. We even get to the point where he literally sees a topless girl, and they both quickly move on with the girl teasing him.

There are a few other points that got overly emphasized on by the author too, but the mc's romance potential was the most eye catching and annoying one to go by.

There were times when the plot forcing felt too much to. As we get a sudden sense of why? Why doesn't the MC or side characters act like then when you would feel they would've acted differently? There were points of contrast. But it wasn't just the characters, but the actual plot events and circumstances felt very forced sometimes. This stood out sparkly more due to the fast paced story writing.

This in turn created a lot of subtle plotholes. One such example being how did the first wizard he met take several days to reach where he was when the village chief has long returned? Wizards can travel 10-100x the speed of a normal person, and this is repeatedly emphasized in the novel how days, weeks, months, years of traveling was all condensed in hours/days time.

Antagonists weren't exactly the most likeable either. Due to again, how fast paced the story is, we get two types of antagonists. A. Unlikably cliche aggressive antagonist picking fights for little to no reason; or B. Very detached outlook of various circumstances where MC is a bystander and thinks it's pitiful whether he helps or not. With the former type being replaced with a spoiler later down the road.

Once you get to this point to, all the obvious foreshadowing dropping from all those characfers to the now very obvious setting kinda ruined it all. And now I have been at this point, I can only hope the author didn't botch his mostly likeable story due to there still being 100 chapters to go and read when translated... I honestly kinda lost my hope with this novel and feel it'll drop to a 3 together with me dropping and never finishing it when I come back later to catch up. <<less

Amazing. For other stories I've read, the authors are pulling things out of thin air and it's then forgotten once that plot is finished. For those stories, I delete it and quickly move on. That's not the case here. This author is planning things far in advance. Sometimes 50 or 60 chapters in advance. The author uses minor plots to introduce parts of a major plot. So a minor introduced story element or character makes more sense later on when it gets tied back into the story. It's not 100%... more>> planned because I do see some things that are introduced at the last minute (which I find annoying), but it's still better than most stories.

The world is large but the MC is able to move around quickly. Therefore, he revisits previous areas often so characters he meets are reoccurring and not forgotten. Even an unnamed little girl he saved gets revisited later in the story. And a minor peasant and noble that was described strangely reveals the plot 40 chapters later that explains that strange description.

The story is good enough where I'm actually paying money on patreon to read future chapters. I've read hundreds of adventure/action webnovels, and this novel is one of the better ones. <<less

In the end not for me I guess. It twisted away from it's initial premise a bit and...

Spoiler

The stakes went through the roof. It's not just that wizards are descendants of the so called gods, but the god's are body snatching the most promising kids of their respective houses. Because gods aren't immortal. In fact it's heavy hinted that they aren't the typical omnipotent beings gods. I suspect these guys are either mad scientists from a more advanced past/future or they are gamers from Earth that got a giant dose of megalomania. Maybe little of A and B.

The point is the story quickly stopped being about the MC learning about his parents and figuring out how he fit into the whole wizard/noble society and went all in on a multi-front battle against the great houses. That are probably all being controlled by the so called gods. At least they aren't making a frontal assault and doing it in secret, but its hard for me to set aside my disbelief in the effectiveness of their tactics.

The MC is supposedly always destroying all physical evidence (hair, skin, etc) so he isn't tracked by the impossible to avoid bloodline of his father. Yet the fact that there is no such traces in places where he's been witnessed is a red flag itself. Not to mention he was never described going full paranoia and scrubbing clean every hotel room, guest room, etc that he ever used. He didn't burn down he childhood home. Not to mention his blatant search for his mother by enlisting the help of minor nobles. Anyone doing an investigation of him would start to suspect things. He's looking for a woman that looks like him and is old enough to be his mother? Does he seriously think the noble that found a maid working for him that knew the story of his mother would stay silent if a more powerful noble questioned him?

It's seriously weird that the MC wasn't afraid of this or tried to silence the maid? Well at the end of the day even his search would have potentially brought about additional leads.

There's some potential that the story might actually develop such the MC does get cornered by some of these things, but I feel like it's more likely these 'gods' are going to be portrayed as arrogant to a s*upid level or have some major weakness. Like it's been hinted that one god might not be in control of the body she's possessing all the time. That perhaps their body snatching is just a way to stall for time? One house is looking for the secret to immortality of the soul, so maybe the gods just suspend the aging of their souls by possessing bodies but not actively taking control?

I'd also not be surprised if the MC really is literally the reincarnation of a god or is an even more elaborate scheme by a god to create a perfect container/body for themselves.

[collapse]

TL:DR the vibe stopped doing it for me. More about the schemes and less about exploring magic or the world. <<less

I love it. The Protagonist, Turan, is so so down-to earth with humble origins and his personality which borderlines on paranoia makes him an extremely careful and wise/precocious person for his age, 19? I kind of respect his way of thinking when it comes to killing his enemies. He gives them a second chance to maybe think it over, sort of like a turn back now and we can still walk away breathing sort of thing. He contemplates a lot over his actions and whether him mu*dering is good enough... more>> to justify a peaceful future.

The world is described to be both perilous and beautiful where normal human life can end in an instant depending on what you do for the day. The locations described in the world are very vivid and thought provoking; sometimes fields of wheat compared to gold or the cold unforgiving bite of the sea.

The way Turan runs into plot point after plot point makes you think if he was fated to run into all these encounters. <<less

It's my first time writing a review. It's still too early to determine whether it's worth reading, but I shall continue for the time being. As for romance, it does seem that the author is priming us for it by presenting opportunities to the MC to be involved with women, noble or not. Yet, no one jumps off the page, except for one character. But who knows if it'll be them.
