【Weird + Double Power + Horror Dungeon + Light Comedy + Boyfriend is the BOSS + Wife-Spoiler + Double virg*ns】

On her birthday, her boyfriend said he had to work overtime because of a surge in horror dungeon players, and since he was the final BOSS, he couldn’t come back.

Shen Jiahe laughed in anger—he could’ve just said he was cheating! And instead, he came up with such a ridiculous excuse!

She broke up with the s*umbag that day, only to be dragged into a horror dungeon that very night………

① Island Prison

Shen Jiahe was pulled into an A-level dungeon. Originally, it was a battle royale type of game, but when she saw the lean back of the prison warden, she felt it looked kind of familiar, like she’d seen it somewhere before.

So she snuck into the warden’s room during the chaos and cautiously called out, “Lin Yuanzhou?”

The ruthless, mu*derous prison warden dropped to his knees with a thud, trying to argue, “Wife, I’m not Lin Yuanzhou!”

Shen Jiahe: “……”

So her boyfriend hadn’t lied—he really was a horror dungeon BOSS.

② Doll Manor

This was a massive doll manor. Every time night fell, the dolls inside would turn strange and creepy.

If a player was found by the weird dolls, they would also become a doll, forever stuck in the manor.

The only way to kill a creepy doll was to find its symbiotic twin and destroy it!

The night Shen Jiahe entered the dungeon, Lin Yuanzhou secretly stuffed a mini wolfman doll into her hands.

Shen Jiahe curiously squeezed the doll a few times, and the man in front of her turned beet red.

Turns out, the doll didn’t just share life—it shared feelings, too!

4.5 stars, rounded up to 5.

This is a relatively light story despite the fact that the premise is the FL keeps going through different horror game scenarios and has to survive each one. Her main cheat is the fact that the main boss of each horror game room is her boyfriend who takes care of her, but what I like is that the writer doesn’t make it so that that’s the only reason she survives everything. This girl is street smart and knows how to act to take care of... more>> herself, as well as who can be trusted and who can’t be in each of these scenarios. I fully believe that she probably could solve these rooms on her own if she had to play them legit, and so the fact that she can just breeze through them because of her boyfriend makes it amusing for me to read. I also like the fact that her boyfriend isn’t actually human but just human-passing and human-pretending to spend more time with her. That makes a lot of sense, and just feels better than having him be human but with random op supernatural powers for no reason.

The thing that really makes this story interesting is:

Spoiler

There’s a larger system that sends different players into these horror games so players don’t play alone, and there’s something clearly at play trying to keep the two of them apart. While the system provides a store, points system for each game and also a livestream feature so other players can watch different rooms, so far it has not really been expanded upon but seems to be really promising for future plot exploration. The keeping them apart part is currently really interesting because her choices are right now (chapter 52) in part motivated by being able to see him again in different rooms, but also provided a mechanism for changing the difficulties of each room so it’s not a complete lie back and relax time for her, since her boyfriend only retains a certain amount of memory of her in each game. That nerfs her biggest cheat because if he can’t remember fully that it’s just a game and he’s supposed to be a wife-s*ave, he’ll still be hindering her and so the games are more psychological for her, since she has to think around how to manipulate her boyfriend to win. Watching her flex her manipulative skills is really cool, and truly shows exactly how smart she is. I do wish there was a little more of her interacting with the world outside of the horror rooms, such as her friend and figuring out the system, but the rooms are interesting enough that I don’t mind it yet.

[collapse]

I do have to give a shout-out for the author’s ability to write these rooms as something that is clearly going to be horrific for the player, but light enough that as readers it doesn’t feel too bad, and feels more like light comedy. I also like our FL quite a lot with her very strong attitude and body, and how she can be a little shameless when it comes to her boyfriend (during the first two arcs I fully believed the double virg*n tag was a lie, but this third arc seems to be leaning into the double virg*n tag more. Still not entirely convinced they are both virg*ns though.)

I’m taking.5 stars off not because of any big issue with the story, it’s just because personally I’ve had stories that made me absolutely obsessed with them, and despite how good this is, it isn’t quite at that level yet. Hopefully it turns out to be one of them, but I’ll see as I keep reading. Thank you to the translators for translating this story and making it so we can all read it!

TLDR: Love the smart FL and her wife-s*ave boyfriend, as well as the horror premise handled in a way that doesn’t feel too horrible for a comedy reader. The current progressing element of the plot is interesting, and keeps each room novel so it’s not just the FL boringly riding out each wave of horror room in her boyfriend’s arms, but instead watching her actually use her brain and solve scenarios. <<less
