Author has a thing for highschoolers???

I was actually looking forward to the age gap (granted I also though YZ in the summary was the MC/shou so the power imbalance would be less..) but this is just weird

MC and MCs mom talk about marriage in the same conversation as MCs mom telling MC to go back and do his homework. MC is still in his last year of highschool and gets his marriage certified with his school bag on his back.

then we're told MLs mom has been wanting ML to marry... more>> MC for years now?? that she had her eye on him?? ma'am... he just became legal this year.

I know I shouldn't look too deep into the world of this but how did a rich middle aged woman catch MC anyway? is there a child bride website MCs parents put him on when he turned 12 just incase their company went to shit? like what is the connection here?

I can already see that MC and ML are actually quite lovey dovey but its just so creepy when you realize ML is calling a highschooler his wife, and not, like, a uni student.

I cant fathom how the author chose these ages. 32 possibly because they wanted him old and experienced but not too old that he was closer to his 40s than 30s. but 18????? why not 20? thats still over a whole decade of difference, and MC would still be in school??? why must you make it someone who turned 18 that year - who got his marriage certified with his still-in-use school bag.

man idk, I thought itd be cute but a highschooler getting married to the most eligible rich bachelor because his parent's company is failing is so not healthy. Atleast switch the 'roles' so the one who doesnt hold all financial power is bigger / stronger / actually feels like someone who could fight back if something happened.

it would be readable if author didnt put so much emphasis on both how old the ML is and that MC is a f*cking highschooler. is this a fetish? do we need to be reminded that MC has only been legal for a few months at every. goddamn. interaction!?

just make it a normal f*cking character trait and not something to bring up in every 3rd sentence so we're reminded that a highschooler was literally sold to an almost 40 year old man.

read only if ur favourite thing about characters is their age because there's literally no other characterization lmao <<less

Story is maybe a 3.5 rating. I rounded up for the sake of wholesome reorganized family. It's rare to see both a truly supportive stepmother and mother-in-law in these novels.

The story is very short and feelings for both the main cp and side cp jump forward somewhat inexplicably. The hardest to swallow aspect is the premise itself.

It seems to be some sort of AU, but there is little to no world building to support it. The legality or stigmatism of same-s*x marriage is simply ignored in this novel. The 14... more>> year age gap isn't a big deal in itself, but the MC is only 18. I thought the legal age of marriage in China was 20??? That may be for just women. ML's mother pushes very hard for this marriage. ML doesn't seem to have siblings. Is the urgency because she wants grandchildren? Has the ML always been interested in only men? Then why does a woman try to seduce him... ?

MC's emotional changes are pretty well explored. The ML on the other hand is still calling the MC a kid until the end. He does admit he was overthinking potential negative outcomes and that his hesitance isn't fair to the MC. Tbh, it seems to me that the ML is taking responsibility rather than being passionately in love. He has interest in the MC and has noticed MC's interest in him. He decides to give them a chance and commit to growing these feelings together. He is definitely sincere, but it's hard to tell the actual depth of his feelings. This actually contributes to the story in a way. MC is very insecure and it's much easier for the readers to empathize with him when they also do not know what the ML is thinking. The author leaves his perspective up to interpretation and it's not a bad choice. ML seemed to have a quiet struggle to overcome his 'parenting' position, and resolved it himself without letting the MC know that he intended to treat him as a son at first.

Side CP

Spoiler

Younger brother is accosted by a teacher... and likes it. Rumors about the teacher make him even more curious. The story itself is pretty good, but the start has some obvious flaws. Teacher Ji is someone who both craves love and fears misunderstandings. How much did he like the masked CX to overcome his trauma long enough to call CX over in public, and give his phone number? He's such a passive person, not to mention in an unfamiliar environment. Getting involved with a student could literally destroy him. There just isn't enough incentive for him to bait CX like that. The follow up after proceeds quite naturally patching up the early inconsistency. It's just that it really leaves one wondering... just what did JX see in him at first sight? CX was described as wearing a mask and not speaking much. He should have not stood out at all. Maybe the teacher called the obviously ill student back in concern and the attraction hit when they locked eyes? Dr. Gu's professional ethics as well as CX response were quite shit. The first was planning to give up the info as long as CX passed his test, when only JX's opinion should matter. The latter reflected for two seconds that he made JX relive his nightmare. Solution? Fight poison with poison and be even more high profile. Overwrite the bad memories by controlling the rumor mill to dispel the hearsay. The author doesn't elaborate on what they say to the chatty kathy's, but it's highly likely they told the truth of the previous incident. This would be a serious leak of Teacher Ji's personal information considering it is something CX learned from his medical records. It would mean CX not only stole his records, but that he also spread out the data to the most vicious rumormongers in school. The intentions revealed at the end are sweet and it very luckily turned out well without a mental break or resignation.
