Social Anxiety in Ancient Times

Story 1:

Li Mu, a modern-day socially anxious person and a nationally protected “waste,” transmigrates into an ancient romance novel. Within three seconds, she decides to shut herself off, pretending to be crazy and foolish, living day by day.

As she muddles through, the novel’s plot starts to become strange. The villain turns into a little sunshine, the female lead starts a political struggle, and the male lead’s dream shifts from seizing the throne to exploring overseas…

Li Mu: “…I really didn’t do anything.”

Story 2:

Everyone knows that the fifth daughter of the Li family is a fool. Out of kindness, the Li family neither confines her to the courtyard nor sends her to a village to fend for herself. Later, an imperial decree made the fifth daughter of the Li family the Regent’s consort, and no one dared to openly discuss her anymore. They only privately joke that a madman paired with a fool is a perfect match.

Later, the Regent’s actions become less shocking and appalling, and people start to hope that the Regent’s consort lives a long life, as long as she doesn’t die before the Regent.

Li Mu: “I always feel like I’ve been turned into a chain for a mad dog.”

Regent: “Then, Consort must keep me tightly chained so I don’t go out and bite people.”

I usually prefer strong female lead for a novel but somehow, MC could still grew on me despite her socially anxious nature. MC was usually quite timid and tended to overthink but sometimes, she could also push herself out of comfort zone if needed. She also had a brilliant mind and could think of something that no one could think of and gave others inspiration from her insight.

Her relationship with ML was quite enviable. ML could understand her condition and never forced her to change. MC gradually opened her heart... more>> to ML and later, she could express herself freely in front of him.

As for the story's plot, it wasn't that heavy. The schemes and conspiracies mostly were only mentioned in passing, nothing too detailed. The story focused more on MC and ML's love story and MC's mental journey. <<less

Wow! I loved this novel so much! It doesn't have the cliché of old novels or the common s*upid problems that most of the main characters have~ The romance between the main characters is so sweet and heartwarming and touching! I wish I could find more novels like this but well... it's so hard

Anyway, I recommend it to you unless you like dog blood novels and others...

There are no obstacles, prejudices, or s*upid problems in the ML family

FL is smart and her personality is not s*upid or frustrating or angry,... more>> unlike what I read in novels that are similar to her condition, so do not worry. Despite her suffering from a disturbing mental illness, she did not allow it to ruin her life. It is just a logical suffering for those with this disorder...

What I liked most is that ML is not tr*sh like many ML who are similar in stature.

Ohhh how can he be this good? I don't know if it's because I saw so much garbage but when I saw this I felt happy, relieved, kind and all. >^< ~

Also, unlike most Ml's, he encourages Phil to improve herself and her knowledge, whether physically, morally or politically, and tells her everything that is happening and the country and all the problems or events he faces so that she does not remain in the dark, ignorant, not knowing anything, just so that he can keep her with him or any other nonsense. He takes into account her special desires because of her disorder and does not mind saying that he is helpless just because she does not want children. He does not keep her confined and imprisoned all her life in the backyard, serving him, raising the children and fulfilling his desires.

Well I wrote a lot because I loved this couple. I hope there are more novels like this or this author writes more novels. ♡~ <<less

It’s a sweet read. The story is short, and it doesn’t have much drama or dog blood even the events should be. Maybe because most of it summarise so its not that dramatic and the story most focus on their daily life. There’s no op gold fingers or dramatic twists. Like the extras, as a conclusion of all the side characters and HE too. Short sweet read. Tq

Decent! Not the best-written or plotted novel but it goes by fast-- maybe a little too fast and a lot of the actual intrigue and story is skipped over-- so it's not a slog.

The skimming thing kind of makes sense since the main character isn't present for the actual happenings. She has social anxiety/phobia and like the description says, it's not the namby pamby kind like in some books where the character says they feel uncomfy but don't actually show any amount of anxiety whatsoever. The MC here cannot function... more>> when unfamiliar people are around at all and beats herself up for it constantly in her own head for not being able to do basic things. It even keeps her up at night in a very relatable way. So when all the court action is described instead of experienced, it feels appropriate for the MC and therfore for the reader. But it does weaken the book overall.

Some of the motivations didn't quite make full sense but the author definitely tried to give good reasons for why everyone behaved like they did, just with showing instead of telling. Ultimately, understanding characters comes from spending (textual) time with them and in their heads and again, that didn't really happen at all in this novel, except for with the MC.

But still, 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4. Loved the way the different women supported each other and had positions of power they fought for. Cute interactions and a believable premise add to the enjoyment. I'd read it again. <<less
