Aloof, marriage-phobic, fragile noblewoman X straightforward, love-brained young general. Marriage first, love later. Readers who dislike this character dynamic should proceed with caution.
Dynasty is a fictional blend inspired by the Wei, Jin, and Northern-Southern Dynasties period. Not suitable for historical accuracy.
Not a strong female protagonist story. Romance to plot ratio is 7:3. Sweet story about post-marriage adjustment.
Shen Li was born into the most prestigious of noble families, a true lady among ladies. With her snow-like beauty that none could reach, she despised three things in life: the God of War, those who disrespected propriety, and political enemies. Xiao Ran embodied all three.
Prince Xiao Ran of Danyang was a young general in fine robes astride a spirited horse, blood-stained from countless battles, wild and untamed. He too despised three things: the pampered, the rule-bound, and the Shen family. Shen Li embodied all three.
One day, a secret imperial decree bound these two incompatible souls together. A marriage of convenience, with neither the groom willing nor the bride consenting.
“Our two families may continue feuding forever. It’s best to keep this secret marriage from outsiders,” the young woman said on their wedding night, sitting upright with perfect composure. “Rather than being husband and wife, we’re better suited as adversaries.”
The young man’s face was cold as jade, crossing his arms with a mocking smile: “Thank heavens you have such awareness!”
Momentary stubbornness led to a lifetime of being proven wrong. How could the hot-headed youth foresee that he too would one day bow his head in submission, gritting his teeth in their marriage bed: “What kind of adversaries share the same bed and pillow? Shen Li, you’re clearly heartless after lifting your skirts!”
