“Why. Damn, do you have something to say?”

My first impression of Joo Kwon-oh was that he was a total punk.

He was the kind of guy who would casually spit out vulgarities while smoking a cigarette. The way he twisted his neck from side to side, glaring at others, was intimidating.

Joo Kwon-oh knew exactly how to assert dominance among the group of guys.

Without a doubt, his first impression was the worst.

“Hey. Can you lend me a pen?”

“…Here.”

“Oh, thanks.”

But coincidentally, I started to run into Joo Kwon-oh more frequently.

Maybe, Joo Kwon-oh isn’t as reckless as I thought.

I became increasingly curious about him. Before I knew it, my eyes were always following him, and my hands were sketching him.

*

The moment Joo Kwon-oh caught me secretly stalking him, I thought he would find me disgusting…

[Joo Kwon-oh: Have you ever kissed a guy?]

[Me: Why?]

[Joo Kwon-oh: Because I want to try it.]

At some point, Joo Kwon-oh began to ask me strange questions.

Wasn’t he supposed to like girls?

Why is he being so nice to me all of a sudden?

The way these characters were incapable of communicating with each other was exhausting to read about, I mean even in the damn epilogue were there misunderstandings... There was so much lazy and unnecessary conflict between the two that started because of insignificant things which could've been cleared up fast if they just talked it out instead of lying to each other. At some point, I just started hate-reading this because I was dumbfounded at their ability to create such big arguments out of nothing. Maybe I'm being too harsh or... more>> it's just fatigue from wanting this to be over for so long, but I really disliked this lmao.

I guess this is common in Korean BLs, but the way Kwon-oh infantilized/treated Jeong-ha as if he were a woman was weird. He's a grown man, not some frail child in need of constant protection. This is me being nitpicky, but I found the emphasis on Jeong-ha's lack of pubic hair, how he still looked like a high-schooler, and his "baby" soft skin, especially during the intimate scenes, to be gross. It just feels heteronormative to have such a point to include these ideals that are often pushed onto women being pushed onto the bottom, if that makes sense. Like Kwon-oh pointing out and enjoying Jeong-ha's hairless g**itals and saying "it's dangerous to walk yourself home this late at night."

I did like reading about Jeong-ha's insecurities regarding his sexuality and him realizing his internalized h*mophobia when he went to that gay bar. <<less

It was going along okay-ish but then the author decided there needed to be multiple chapters of the ML's pov in the middle of the story. They were in the middle of working out a misunderstanding and boom we're transported back to the beginning of the story from the ML's pov. That was so unnecessary because it added nothing to the plot in that moment, it could've been in the extras.

Also why am I seeing terms for the female anatomy used to describe a man's body????? He's not inters*x so... more>> where'd the cl*toris come from???

That being said this was annoyingly long. 107 chapters in and there has been no change in the MC. Usually as a story progresses, there are changes in the characters whether it's because of new friends or the relationship but the MC remains annoyingly timid and mute when it comes to speaking about important things. I would excuse it if this wasn't the umpteenth time he's done this and the ML had to basically beg and beseech him to speak. I am very understanding of shy quiet characters but for them to remain like that till the end is a bit much. <<less

This was a case of "he fell first, but HE fell harder."

The MC fell for Kwon-oh almost immediately but accepted that Kwon-oh would never be his, due to him being straight. The MC had decided to be content with secretly drawing Kwon-oh and eavesdropping on his conversations to learn more about his preferences. However, this secret crush was soon discovered when Kwon-oh got a glimpse at the MC's notebook, which was full of drawings. At first, Kwon-oh was taken aback and a tad mean spirited when he confronted the MC,... more>> but he wasn't hateful. Honestly, I think Kwon-oh actually handled his discovery pretty well for his age and considering his prejudice against men. Kwon-oh assumed the MC's drawings were hinting at le*d thoughts, but when he realized the MC's thoughts were innocent and that the MC had no plans to pursue him, he quickly changed his tune. The problem was that once the idea of the MC liking him entered his mind, Kwon-oh couldn't stop thinking about the MC. Kwon-oh started paying more attention to MC and started wondering: "what if?" And that's where the fun began.

This couple was sort of backwards in how they got together but I really liked this couple, despite their ups and downs. It was a rocky road and frustrating at times, due to the misunderstandings and fears of both characters, but I think the author did a good job at showing the challenges of first love. I loved seeing Kwon-oh fall in love with the MC and seeing the MC grow into a braver person. I would definitely suggest this book to others. The ML was a green flag; there were no 3rd parties and though the relationship had flaws, it wasn't necessarily toxic. If I had one complaint it would be that you never find out the family or friend's opinions on the relationship. I would've liked to have seen the couple years down the line, still in love, and them comfortable showing everyone their love. Besides that, it was a good read. <<less

This one was pretty enjoyable.

It's a shy introverted art nerd with a more extroverted louder/rougher business student.

MC struggled a bit in the beginning due to feeling insecurities: first relationship, different personality types, misunderstandings, jealousy, the struggle of being in a secret relationship and also acceptance of his own sexuality. These issues were played out pretty realistically and I appreciated how each time they would get around to really talking it out.

Agreed with the ML being a complete green flag. Initially he appears a bit rough around the edges but he... more>> falls for MC pretty quickly and becomes a complete sweet love sick puppy.

Initially it's told from the MC perspective, and then at a certain point it retells the first few chapters from the ML perspective.. It was fun to see how quickly he falls. Despite previously thinking he was straight he doesn't really have any hiccups with realizing he's bi.. Or at least bi for MC.

In terms of smut. It's more focused on the plot but there is plenty hot s*x scenes later in. <<less
