Guifei is favored, Xian Fei has a son, Zhaoyi is the emperor’s white moonlight, and Li Fei is his cinnabar mole. The other concubines all have their own strengths and charms-a true garden of blooming flowers.

So who is our protagonist?

She is the successor empress-unfavored, childless, and without a powerful family background.

Wonderful. Why does this plot feel strangely familiar?

Whatever. On the first day Zhao Wumian transmigrated, she decided to lie flat.

Compete for favor? Compete for what, exactly?!

There’s no reason to depose her for no cause, and the emperor wants to be a wise ruler, after all.

The author said that every time she finishes a book, it feels like she's lived another life—and honestly, I feel the same way. This book was such a journey. It reminded me a little of The Job of an Imperial Concubine (though this time, it's the Empress), but the tone and approach are actually quite different.

You can tell just how much care went into the character development and worldbuilding. Even though the pacing dragged a bit at times, I still loved it. The book logic holds up really well, and... more>> somehow, it manages to stay pragmatic without ever feeling downright pessimistic. There's a quiet optimism beneath all the realism—especially in how it handles harem intrigue.

Surprisingly, I think I ended up loving the extras even more than the main story. The ones about the Second Prince (loved him), Yuzhu (the Fourth Princess), and even the Second Princess were standouts for me. I really, really enjoyed them. <<less

The FL of this story is similar to “The Job of An Imperial Concubine” since she sees the Empress position as a job. However, since she’s the Empress already, she stands out from the other FL in this Imperial Harem niche (who starts as concubines/consorts) in the sense that she’s secured, regardless if the future emperor is her biological son or not. Overall, I still like her because she is not complacent, actually intelligent, and she’s genuinely kind.

Why do good stories have to end???? By the time I wrote this review, I stopped at chapter 458. It's about the second prince (never thought i'd love that kid). Couldn't continue because reading the extras gave me mixed feelings. I couldn't help wanting to cry a river, especially after reading another review about it.

Truly, the author really did a good job. This novel is really promising. Realistic harem intrigue with an engaging plot. FL is a rational person, she knows what she wants in her life. Zero expectation for... more>> the emperor, so it doesn't hurt in the long run, though of course, the ML fell in love? If it could be said as love, with FL because of her knowledge and personality (as a modern person). They live in harmony and for the first time, I really have no thought of the emperor would abolish the harem for the FL only, like another harem novel I've read before, that's why I said this novel is very realistic. As an emperor, he's someone above a thousand, and as a man of that time, it really won't cross his mind.

Loved the main story ending. It really feels enough. Really thankful that the translator picked up this story. Now that I finished reading this, I really yearn to read a modern or 60s-70s period fluffy novel to balance the intensity lol <<less

This is so good. I cried on the extra chapters because *exhales* that's heavy.

I give my biggest applause to the author on writing this wonderful novel. The plot is so good. There's a lot of ups and downs, and how MC resolutely deals them. She's flexible in any situations and can be said to be very smart and cunning. The relationship between MC and ML can be said love. Filled with affection, but not passionate.

Extra Chapters:

I cried on the eldest prince chapter. That f*cking wrecked me. ARGHHHHH. It's so heartbreaking to read his chapters. It f*cking wreck me that he has expectations to receive a father's love. All of his bad choices was due to him looking back to the past. Man, I can't stop crying. He's just a kid. Man, I wished for him that he reincarnated to a loving family.

Imperial Concubine... f*ck. I can't. I can't stop crying like—ARGHHHH!! Like I want to choke the Eldest Princess so bad!!!

Don't get me started with Second Princess and Third Prince. The angst on Second Princess chapter is so crispy. Third Prince? I broke down when he started to write the biography of Second Prince. And at this moment, I started to cry because wtf?? TP only have SP as a close brother. It's so tragic yet bittersweet.

I f*cking hate this novel of how good this is. Bye, I'm going back reading sweetpet novels.

If you want to find a loyal ML, please exit the premises because this is not for you. This novel focuses how MC governed the harem. <<less

This novel is really good. It's not a romantic novel, but has familial love. It's bittersweet, especially the extras. The female lead is empress from the start and this is also very different from common novels where empress are always villains and the FL is the concubine. Overall it was very entertaining.

There are something's that I love above the novel:

A. The maids recognised that the queen was not the same.

B. The original owner was acknowledged in the final chapter. Although she was absurd, but no one had taught her to be a good queen. People were either impatient or calculating towards her. She was both absurd and pitiful and it was beautifully presented in the extras.

C. The FL was not OP but she bought small changes.

D. Multiple POVs was shown in the extras, and it gave the characters more dimension.

first off, compared to other historical imperial harem novels I read where the FL starts as a concubine, our FL here transmigrated in the body of the empress which I love! It gives us a different perspective on how our MC will fight in the harem (tho at first she does not have any plans for it)

our FL here is really clever and really knows her advantages and use it for her position to be unshakeable. Ofc the emperor– the ML will not demolish the harem for her but... more>> he has genuine feelings for our FL.

Spoiler

this point in the novel they already have a daughter and a baby boy (the emperor established him as a crown prince when he's born!) and then further down in the chapters they will have another baby boy <3

To stop favoring women because she doesn't like other women giving birth to his children (though this was when they were in their 50s or so.) I guess better late than never? It was bittersweet because there was no chance of only being a couple, without other women in between. I also really liked how the Emperor gradually stopped favoring women and focusing his time on FL. It was only to the point where he spent 80% of his time with FL (Empress), though.

I thought she would never be honest. In some sense, she never was. I really enjoy the trope of the Emperor falling in love for FL when she doesn't. Also he never understood her, because there was a time and space separating them.
