Five stars! Amazing story! The protagonist is so unique and flavorful, the writing style is really distinctively unorthodox and each plot is interesting and wrapped up nicely. The protagonist is the main draw of the story for me - the story states in the beginning chapters that those with high mental abilities become mad due to this quality, and this is reflected in his character, where he posits insights of varying depth and actually achieves tangible merit due to them, but falls short in various areas for comedic effect due... more>> to his cognition as a madman. The MC is such a refreshingly unorthodox character, and reading from his POV is like being given a glass of cool lemonade on a hot summer day after wading through the unending slop swamps of faceless self-inserts, nonchalant munchkins, and bland harem-mongers.

The MC is an unusual character not only through his basic qualities as a person, but also in how he's written. His facial movements and emotions are never expressed, and his dialogue is never descriptive, with only the words being shown. The reader's picture of him is painted through his various meandering thoughts, words, and actions only.

The writer is very insightful, showcasing great literary prowess and knowledge of current popular genres. The Medieval Book segment, which crystallized all of this, was hilarious. Reading it felt like a direct love letter and reward for webnovels and their subgenres.

The way the story incorporates various ideas and philosophies is very fun and clever. The Dream Actor plot, where he derides works of mindless violence as lowbrow content with no artistic merit only serving to act as a dopamine stimulant for the senses, only to have his own movie turn out to be a 24-hour production weirdo new age snoozefest was hilarious. The story has a really unique sense of humor that manages to be both sincere and self-aware at the same time, it's really enjoyable.

The SCP stuff is great, but it's there as a lens to filter the protagonist's experiences and worldviews through rather than serving as an overarching force in of itself. The incidents are largely unconnected and episodic, even though elements from each one carry on throughout the story. I don't think this is a bad thing, just something to keep in mind rather than expecting a great villain or grand scheme. Despite the high tensions and life-threatening experiences, the entire thing feels rather SoL due to the protagonist's disposition. This would be a big demerit if it was the main focus of the story, but it isn't.

I've read thousands of works over the years and this is easily one of my favorites. Of course, it has a very strong flavor, so it's understandable if others can't appreciate its artistry. (Soaked in dopamine).

Spoiler

Regarding why he refused the book's offer for a cushy life, he refused it for the same reason why he did the previous offer for omniscience. Because, in his mind, human beings die when their potential for growth is lost. He finds fulfillment in the toil and monotonous struggle in everyday life. It's why he keeps on posting on the internet despite being banned every time, and why he decided to experience being mad - because there is joy in novelty and the infinite potential of human cognition. He wants to be an ordinary human, but many distortions and contradictions appear throughout the story because his image of an ordinary human is set as "an existence that can make the impossible possible".

It's a great novel with a protagonist who's so full of faith it's funny but intelligent with a very human side, it's quite refreshing and above all as a fan of the SCP world I find the universe really well constructed and the story gripping one of my best reads of the year.👌

Person upstairs claiming that MC has meaningless philosophizing; I believe you took this novel too seriously. It doesn't even take itself seriously. MC has the weirdest brain circuits; it's as if a three year old randomly connected his neural pathways. I don't believe that the author doesn't know that he has the mental capacity of a ninth dimension jellyfish.

In the blue moon arc when he wanted to experience 'becoming mad/insane', I directly wanted to ask: Aren't you already insane? I'm sure you can think up a convoluted enough reason to become a mass mu*derer without supernatutal influence if you really wanted to.

The artistic film he made, made the Foundation's defensive entities question life, okay? This guy even filmed a R-rated compliation worse than anything found on 4chan, and caused aliens... more>> to flee because the 'creativity' of human carnal behaviours was too eye-searing.

Anyway, it's basically a bunch of nonsense which is good enough to pass the time once but doesn't have true depth. Consider it akin to a crosstalk show. You might get bored after reading too much of it, since the flavor is very homogenous.

Read it once if you dare; do not read it twice.

Note: The translation site seems to load slowly sometimes, and many advance chapters are premium. <<less

This is an odd story. How well written it is, is rather ambiguous. The SCP stuff is interesting and written in a well thought out way, but is both the best part and not the focus. The cast consists near entirely of the protagonist who is, to put it bluntly, rather s*upid. He enjoys waxing poetic about vague philosophies, but contradicts any hint of wisdom or intelligence through his lack of sense. It isn't like the philosophies themselves are bad, or particularly (dis) agreeable. He's just inconsistent in a way... more>> that seems unintentional and (as a character) unintelligent.

What this means is that we're given an interesting world, with interesting if sparse characters, but our means of experiencing it is limited to a character who isn't pulling his weight. If you're not sure you're interested, I recommend reading up to at least the end of chapter 5 to get a feel for it. That much shows you who the protagonist is and will be, the world to a fair extent, and what direction the story will be going on. <<less

I like this!! Premise is Mc's world suddenly turned into the scp like game he used to play.

MC is... weird, he's kinda simple minded, yet very resolute in achieving his goals, he's also very calm in facing the realization that he now lives in world with beings that can obliterate him instantly, also, when given opportunity to escape from said world ... more>>

via magic book that can transport you into isekai, which also offering him guarantee for a nice cushy life since he contributed a lot of isekai candidate for the book

he refuses. He says its because he want to keep survive like humans, but that itself is very weird.

Also suprisingly theres lot of comedy (or black comedy sometimes) in this novel. Its often catch me off guard with how funny it is. MC terrible driving makes me laugh the hardest. Its so absurd how calmly he narrates his driving while wrecking havoc with his vehicle <<less
