Review: Surviving as a Fortune Teller in the Martial Arts World

Was hooked from start to finish, novel has a pretty good balance of comedy and action and a rather unique premise (kinda).

What Makes This Novel Special

The MC isn't your typical martial arts hero obsessed with power or revenge. Dan Yooseong lost his dantian (alright pretty generic), but instead of desperately seeking some secret art to rebuild it like most protagonists would, he just wants to chill and enjoy life using his fortune-telling abilities to stay out of trouble (with another... more>> twist bbeing that he can't foresee his own future, only that of others). His inner thoughts are hilarious! The gap between what he's actually thinking and the wise sage act he puts on are pretty fun.

The highlights would be:

- Freaking out inside while trying to act all mysterious and not do anything that would endanger his life

- Causing the opposite of the intended effect whenever he tries not to rile up the crazy heroines

Character Dynamics

The side characters/heroines are pretty good too. You've got your grumpy masters, weird sect leaders, and rival fortune tellers - and they're all pretty fleshed out despite the comedy.

Seeing him navigate the different dynamics between the characters and their different personalities and backgrounds is pretty fun.

Art Style

Maybe a bit "besides the point" but the novel has extensive illustrations, both Chibi and more natural/detailed/anime-style. All very good.

World Building

It would be your typical martial arts setting, but the author added a mix of Fantasy elements to it by proxy of the protagonist's system and some "foreign invaders", pretty cool.

Fair Warning

Should probably mention this novel definitely leans into the f*mdom side of things. The heroines are all gorgeous but absolutely unhinged - possessive, obsessive, and barely containing themselves from just "taking" the MC. Lots of onee-shota dynamics.

There are explicit scenes scattered throughout, so be prepared for that (though the first ones all happen in "alternate timelines" where the MC f*cks up and riles up the heroines too much lol). The relationship dynamic is consistently the MC being overwhelmed by these crazy women who've decided he's theirs. If you're into that power imbalance, you'll love this. If not... well, you've been warned!

If you enjoy martial arts stories focusing on comedy, f*mdom elements, yanderes, and a protagonist that isn't just the typical OP protagonist, this is definitely your next read!

If you are looking for novels where the FMC's are very fleshed out then this novel is for you.

The MC to start off has no powers at all nor he is aware of them as his dantian had been shattered. But, he is very easygoing and chill to hang out with, spending all of his money he earns from fortune telling on delicious food or alcohol and gambling.

His face is covered through the effect of the cloak he wears, very useful as his master (Part of the six FMC's) warned... more>> him to never show his face to any other women or worse, be vulnerable to them.

The tags do not lie, the MC will inevitably be r*ped which makes it even better considering all these FMC's have very good moral upstanding and you will see their thoughts in real time through the text as they slowly degenerate towards corrupting him.

I really enjoy yandere novels, and this novel delivers. Women turn into yanderes the moment his face is shown. The r*pe tag is also not a lie. The main character WILL be r*ped.

The main character, whose name I have not seen mentioned yet in the story, is a powerless fortune teller. I will refer to him as the Fortune Teller. Fortunately, he knows that standing out invites opportunists and greedy individuals, so he tries his best to stay away from dangerous individuals. (From a future chapter, the story says the previous body's occupant was Dan Yooseong, but I will continue to refer to him as Fortune Teller since his current soul does not match his current body.)

Fortune Teller wears a hood that hides his face, and everyone wants to see under it. A lot of powerful women keep trying to see his face, and he keeps seducing them unintentionally. I recommend reading this story for the easy going fortunes that will eventually lead to him being chained to yanderes. That will be my fortune telling. <<less
