From a perspective beyond mortal life, observe the entangled fates of love and hatred among cultivators across the river of time.

From a humble, less-than-prosperous town, Chen Changsheng steps into the dazzling world of cultivation. His journey, sometimes swift and sometimes slow, is marked by periods of rest and motion, yet he never ceases moving forward.

The End of Dharma Era, the Age of Emperors, the Dark Turmoil Era…

In every age, his figure lingers, yet all he can do is watch the passing of old friends and send them off to their final rest.

Chen Changsheng transmigrates into the vast cultivation world and awakens the Longevity System.

By sleeping for a year, his lifespan increases by another year, and he gains an attribute point.

“I, Chen Changsheng, have no interest in fighting or killing. I just want to sleep well and send my old friends off on their last journey.”

– After ten years of slumber, the village he once knew has changed beyond recognition.

– After a hundred years, the dynasty of his youth has vanished into history.

– After a thousand years, the flowers he casually planted have become treasured spirit herbs fought over by countless cultivators.

– After ten thousand years, the small bird he once raised has grown into a demon emperor.

One day, Chen Changsheng casually draws the woodcutter’s knife from his waist and makes a gentle slash, splitting the sky in two.

Human Emperor: “Teacher, is it truly you who has returned?”

Master of the Forbidden Land: “Ah, my old friend, how should I face you now?”

I am at the most recent chapters. This is my spoiler to the 1st reviewer. Even more characters will die but the story will become even more Philosophical. If you know something about Chinese mythology, you will recognize many characters and the MC's design. For example

Chen Changsheng’s “walk-the-earth” plan, known as the Life and Death Tribulation, was a fabricated ordeal meant to correct the hidden flaws of talented cultivators. He observed that excessive training and isolation made these geniuses mentally unstable at higher realms. By making them believe in an unavoidable calamity, he tricked them into facing real-world experiences and emotional challenges. This allowed their suppressed flaws to surface naturally, leading to genuine growth. Over 50, 000 years, the lie shaped more balanced and mature cultivators without them realizing they were being guided.

It’s an amazing story — just go read it.

Seriously, don’t bother reading this — just pick up the book and start reading.

But if you're still here, let me tell you about the downsides:

1) Characters drop like flies. The main character is immortal — that part’s clear — but his cheerful personality clashes hard with all the death happening around him. He’s lighthearted, the tone is funny, there are jokes... and then boom, a major character dies. One second you’re laughing, and the next, the mood flips into something tragic and... more>> philosophical. Then the story moves on, the main guy’s cracking jokes again — boom, another character dies. It keeps happening. It’s really jarring. I didn’t like that.

2) In the 95 chapters I’ve read, over a thousand years have passed. So yeah, the plot moves fast. The world, the protagonist, the side characters — they’re all super interesting. But because of this insane pacing, characters barely get five chapters before they die. I’d just start getting attached, and boom — gone. That makes the world feel really shallow. The humor, the clever ideas, the unique setting — none of it can save the fact that everything moves way too quickly.

3) There’s a scene where the main character wipes out all the Thunder Beasts, and it really pissed me off. It felt totally out of character. Up until that point, he’d been calm and detached, and then someone metaphorically spits in his face, and suddenly he goes full genocide mode? Come on. He’s not some spoiled noble from a prestigious clan — he’s supposed to be different. I honestly have no idea what the author was thinking.

Surprisingly, those are the only negatives I can remember.

All in all — the book is genuinely great. Go read it. <<less
