A story where they: went on three dates before having s*x, had s*x for three times before breaking up, were together for three years before getting married

Also: a slow-burn romance between two siscon Airbus pilots

Pilot x Pilot. Ex-carrier-based aircraft pilot, current civil aviation model worker piloting A320 planes x The youngest captain in KLM who is piloting A330 planes. Contestant who faces life with a smile x Contestant who is rational and direct

Zhou Qichen (周其琛) x Lang Feng (郎峰)

—The tailhook, also known as the arresting hook, is one of the most important components on a carrier-based aircraft. When landing, the tailhook increases resistance through snagging onto the arresting wire suspended across the deck of the carrier. This is so that the carrier will be able to land on the runway within a short period of time. Globally, organizations whose members are naval carrier-based aircraft pilots are also called Tailhook Associations.

This novel will mainly tell a story from Zhou Qichen’s POV. Derived from the side relationship in another novel The Approach (从万米高空降临).

This is a primarily character driven novel, with two seemingly contrasting personalities falling in love and learning how to love each other as the other needs. It's a mature slice of life, with the main characters being 29 and 32, both with past relationships and experience, and both relatively straightforward with their desires. The plot progresses fairly quickly, while also taking time to explore both characters' inner worlds.

Zhou Qichen's character was much less frivolous than I expected given the summary, and he's actually a pure romantic at heart, with some... more>> of the most romantic thoughts I have ever read. He has a lot of scars, both physical and emotional, and it's led him to put up a lot of walls when it comes to relationships. He deeply desires romantic connection, but is scared to open up given his history. The first part of the novel explores his past very naturally as it alternates with the present timeline, and chapters are quite short so it never feels like the plot is being derailed.

Lang Feng was not the most relatable of a character to me, but I did still enjoy his sense of humor and even his righteousness. He's very well spoken, and his emotional intelligence is one of the highest of any character I've ever read. He loves wholeheartedly and has no issues with communicating his affection- basically the textbook definition of secure attachment. He can be overly rational at times, but it balances well with his patience and devotion. He's a Christian, but his faith doesn't play that big of a role in the novel as he no longer goes to church and doesn't really talk about it an excessive amount. He prays and wears a cross, but that's basically the extent of it.

The two are very sexually compatible and they go at it a lot (as early as chapter 3 they're already in bed together). There's a lot of smut, but in all fairness most of it is also plot relevant. They're both into more rough s*x, and the scenes are very descriptive. As a bonus, they're very much a reversible couple, and the scenes between them alternate quite consistently with both of them enjoying both positions! I find it really rare to find a couple that switches so naturally without fighting over their position or thinking negatively about assuming either role.

The writing and translation are beautifully done, and I experienced the entire spectrum of human emotion while reading. Though reading "The Approach" before this novel did add some context to this story, it's not necessary to read first in order to understand this novel's plot, though I would highly recommend reading it as well! This novel for sure stands alone as a great storyline on its own. <<less

I just want to write a quick review for this novel, seeing that there is only one review at the time of writing.

This novel was a great read. Its short length made for great pacing and no fillers. I also quite liked the characters, not only the MC and ML, but the MC's friends e.g. Lin Xiao mentioned by blessedcruisader who does in fact appear multiple times in the novel as the MC's good friend.

The development of their relationship was enjoyable and quite realistic. Both the MC and... more>> ML are flawed characters in a relationship. Throughout the story, they struggle with their relationship, make mistakes and key point, they communicate and talk about these mistakes and try to do better in the future. It also doesn't hurt that they're a reversible couple and the novel does have some nice smut scenes.

The author also seems to have put in considerable effort to add details to the pilot aspect of the characters, which is really appreciated (even though I don't know how accurate it is). Thank you to the translator for their great translation as well.

Overall, I really enjoyed this novel, I recommend it if you enjoy more mature romances. <<less

I'll keep this short and sweet. As someone who loves reading novels with reversible couples, I really can't wait to read more translations of this. If the whole novel was translated, I would find great difficulty putting this down and not finishing in one go. Please translator, continue to gives us translations, I really really want to finish this off. Was a joy reading about Zhou Qichen and Lang Feng, but honestly chapter 8 with Lin Xiao has been a highlight so far. Will probably not see her again, but... more>> hope she crops up anyway at some point.

Note: Although the couple in this is a reversible couple, idk if the split is all that fair. Although the book has a lot of smut, think Lang Feng is the top 95% (maybe more?) of the time. Kind of disappointing. <<less

great novel I love it so much. Ive read it thrice now.

it is character driven and I always find myself bawling. What can I say? I relate to lang feng so much and I find zhou qichen's character so compeling and interesting and he is so brave.

this novel touches on courage in ways that wring my heart and urge me to be the same.

also I just want to say that lang feng is christian. Being christian does not automatically mean that he is catholic. Please do not misunderstand. There are... more>> a lot of branches under christianity and each branch has different beliefs. <<less

i loved this so much from start to finish. Id reccomend reading the approach first as it helped me understand the setting and sq and lf more! Anw sq's story especially made me so emotional but the way their relationship helped both of them made it even more heartwarming. I can't articulate my words very well lol but man I just think their relationship and this story is so beautiful! Im glad they both found each other.

Started off as FBs only for one to fall hard, the other not yet ready but sooner they got together and found home in each other’s arms. I love the differences in their characters and how they fit perfectly together. It’s a story about healing and moving forward, about accepting one’s flaws and embracing the quirks of being in a relationship. I am moved by how strong and genuine Lang Feng’s views on a relationship is, especially when he told Zhou Qichen, "We aren't 'getting through this'. We're gonna spend... more>> every day properly-in a fulfilling way. Let's spend every day properly together." <<less

As I get older, I find myself enjoying mature romances more and more. This is a pretty rare find among all the feel-good novels on this site, and it has a stellar translation, so I highly recommend everyone give it a try. The novel's biggest impressions on me are CLEAR communication, understandable character motivations, and a mature philosophy on life.

However, I do want to highlight one huge discrepancy -- and that is the character setting of Lang Feng (the ML). He is introduced as a devout Catholic follower, one who... more>> is particularly rule-abiding but is active and open to same-s*x relationships. This is a contradiction in itself, as the Catholic religion forbids homos*xual relationships.

As the Catechism states: "2359 Homos*xual persons are called to c*astity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection."

Anyone who believes in the Catholic faith must not engage in same-s*x relationships because if you do, you are actively going against Catholic teachings and, therefore, NOT actually a pious and devout follower. However, the ML and his family don't react to this, and instead of believing that the ML is committing a sin against their religion, they believe that it is actually the priest of their past church being discriminatory. While it is correct for priests to not discriminate against others based on whether they are LGBTQ, for a Catholic person, they are going against their religion.

Seems to me that either the author did not know this, or this is an intended plot hole in the persona of the ML. However, it wouldn't make much sense to give the ML an identity as a pseudo-Catholic, since it doesn't align with his other personality traits, I would say that the author just didn't do enough research. <<less
