【1V1 + Sweet Romance + Childhood Friends to Lovers + Age Gap + Soulmates + Happy Ending】

In Jing City, the Shen family had three sons in a row before finally welcoming a little girl. As the only daughter, she was pampered like a princess from a young age.

Before the little girl turned ten, wherever she went, the young master of the Shi family could always be seen following her. Sometimes, he even carried her in his arms.

After she turned ten, whenever the Shi family’s young master attended a meal, she was always seated at the head of the table, with him attentively serving her food and pouring her water.

Everyone in their social circle gossiped that the Shi family’s young master only treated her like a little sister—until a certain photo surfaced online.

The photo showed the girl, wearing a crown on her head, pinning someone against the wall for a kiss. Her jade-like toes stepped on the man’s expensive leather shoes, while the man held her waist with one hand and adjusted the crown on her head with the other.

Upon closer inspection, the man turned out to be none other than the Shi family’s young master, who had since become the head of the Shi Group.

In an instant, two long-standing rumors in Jing City were debunked.

First, the Shen family’s mysterious young lady, who had never been seen in public, was not someone to be hidden out of shame—she was a precious gem being carefully guarded.

Second, the Shi family’s new leader, known for his lack of interest in women, wasn’t indifferent to romance—he was simply waiting for his little girl to grow up.

As an adult, the little girl finally told him, “I never saw you as a brother.”

What she didn’t know was that he, too, had never seen her as a sister.

Later, people noticed that both of them wore matching Bodhi bead bracelets. Upon closer inspection, however, the beads were slightly different.

In Jing City, it was said that the Bodhi bracelets from Xiangshan Temple with 18 beads were considered auspicious. However, if one bracelet had 19 beads and the other 17, blessed together at the temple, it was a sign of someone willing to shield the other from harm.

His bracelet had 19 beads.

He said, “If the gods won’t protect her, then I will shield her myself.”

Tang Is My Obsession: A Sugar Overdose with a Side of Frustration

This novel is pure sugar—the kind that makes your teeth ache and leaves you wondering if you should be enjoying it or regretting your life choices. I love fluffy and sweet romance, and Tang Is My Obsession definitely delivers on that front. It has its charm, but let's be real—it's also downright frustrating at times.

But do I recommend? Yeah, I do. Especially because have a big twist plot in the middle of the story.

Spoilers 。°⚠︎°。"╰ ─¡! ᴖ !¡─ ╯"。°⚠︎°。

The Good of the Story: The Male Lead

Spoiler

The title Tang Is My Obsession is misleading. By the title you would imagine a cold, possessive CEOwith dangerous yandere energy. But let me stop you right there. This is not that novel.

Shi Chengyu is the Male Lead That Puts Others to Shame. He is leagues ahead of most male leads in web Chinese romance. He's a decent guy.

• He never forces Shen Chutang into anything.

• He spoils her, but without arrogance or control.

• He's not afraid to be vulnerable. He actually cries multiple times, and it's not played as weakness—it's a testament to how deeply he loves. And that's what impressed me the most!

In a genre flooded with overbearing CEOs who treat love like a power struggle, Shi Chengyu stands out by being genuinely kind. His love isn't about dominance—it's about devotion.

He is not the typical s*umbag male lead who:

✖ Treats the FL like an object to be possessed

✖ Pushes her against a wall the second she tries to leave.

✖ Acts like he's doing her a favor by "loving" her.

✖ Hides his emotions because "men don't cry."

✖ Cheats, lies, or tests her loyalty just to prove she "belongs" to him.

No, Shi Chengyu is none of that.

He loves openly, gives endlessly, and puts the FL above his own pride. Other male leads wish they were him.

Which is why it's frustrating that the woman he loves so much never really grows up.

The Bad: The Female Lead (눈_눈)

Spoiler

Now, here's where things get tricky. Shen Chutang, the female lead, is the weakest part of the story.

This isn't a romance between equals—it's a father doting on his spoiled child.

• She whines when she has to eat.

• She throws tantrums over taking medicine.

• She complains about signing paperwork when she's gifted company shares. (Because, apparently, her hand is tired of signing the contracts.)

At first, I thought, "Okay, she's young. She'll mature."

Nope.

At 23 years old, she's still hugging plush toys, and constantly crying while Shi Chengyu is in his office in a secret meeting with her older brothers, so they can came up with ideas to how to solve her personal problems.

And this is not a one-time thing—this is her entire personality.

Well, to be honest she's not a bad person—in fact, she's kind and never arrogant to others—but emotionally? She's painfully weak and completely dependent on the male lead.

And Shi Chengyu deserves a partner, not a child to raise.

The "Spoiled Princess" with a hypocrite family (⋋_⋌)

Spoiler

Another misleading idea is that the whole family of the female lead pampers her. To be honest they are hypocrites.

• Her parents live in another city.

• Her brothers are too busy to be around.

• She spends most of her time alone in a mansion.

The only person who actually spoils her and gives her constant attention is Shi Chengyu.

And yet, (big spoiler)...

Spoiler

... when the female lead suffers a car accident - deliberately caused by someone trying to get revenge on the male lead - her family blames him.

Excuse me? The man raised her better than they ever did, and because of an accident that wasn't even his fault, they suddenly turn against him? And while they were busy blaming, he was the one taking care of her for three years while she was in a coma.

Who had the right to judge him? They couldn't even compare to a strand of his hair when it came to supporting the female lead.

The Pacing: A Sugar Rush, Then a Tragedy Overload (இ௦இ)

Spoiler

The first half of the novel? Dragged. On. Forever. (っ˕ -。) ᶻ 𝗓 𐰁 Boring!

If you enjoy slice-of-life romance where nothing much happens but just the constant tantrums of the heroine, you might like it. But for me, it felt like watching someone live their daily routine of a pampered princess in slow motion.

Then—bam! (꩜ ᯅ ꩜;)

Tragedy mode: activated. The most interesting part of the story.

Big spoiler ahead!

。°⚠︎°。"╰ ─¡! ᴖ !¡─ ╯"。°⚠︎°。

Spoiler

Suddenly, suffering everywhere. Health ruined. Bodies broken. The male lead nearly loses his mind. (ミ ᵕ̣̣̣̣̣̣ ﻌ ᵕ̣̣̣̣̣̣ ミ) ノ

Because the female lead suffered a car accident and nearly died. And the culprit, the driver, was his enemy in business. She got into a coma for 3 years and the male lead never left her side.

[collapse]

Just when things finally get interesting—bam, rushed ending. ¯_ (·•᷄‎ࡇ•᷅) _/¯

If only the author had cut down the slow, uneventful beginning and focused more on the emotional depth of the second half, we could have had a far better-balanced novel.

The Best Female Character Wasn't the FL ԅ (¯﹃¯ԅ)

Spoiler

Ironically, Shen Chutang's best friend Xie Tong, was a much better heroine than she was.

✔ Traveled the world, volunteered in Africa, and followed her dreams.

✔ Decisive, playful, and emotionally strong.

✔ Genuinely capable of growth and maturity.

Meanwhile, Shen Chutang (the female lead) just... cried. > (ভ⤙ ভ ") <

It's funny how strong female characters do exist in this novel—just not in the main role.

Final Verdict

Spoiler

A Male Lead Worth 5 Stars, A Female Lead Who Wasn't

I've read so many toxic Chinese Web Novels romances where the male lead is so scummy that the happy ending would be the female lead leaving instead of getting together with a scum.

But in Tang Is My Obsession, it's the complete opposite—I kept hoping Shi Chengyu (the male lead) would have a better female lead.

Because let's be real: He deserves better.

For readers who love a devoted, non-toxic male lead, this book is worth reading. But if you're looking for a strong female lead who can match him, you'll be disappointed.

[collapse]

Would I recommend it? Only for Shi Chengyu (the male lead).

Is it a worth reading? Only for Shi Chengyu (the male lead).

His behavior is going to make your heart warm but is also going to hurt your heart and make you cry, because of his suffering. (இ﹏இ`。) <<less
