Qiao Wei found herself as the cannon-fodder ex-wife of the male protagonist in a historical novel set in the 60s and 70s. The male lead was handsome, with a broad shoulder, narrow waist, and long legs, clad in a uniform. Not only was he the type Qiao Wei liked, but his future prospects were also boundless.

In the original story, Qiao Wei was a pitiful cannon fodder who ended up in misery, dying alone after eloping with someone. In the reborn version, the original female lead married the male lead and lived a good life.

However, Qiao Wei, upon entering the book, didn’t want to be the cannon fodder. From being a lonely terminally ill patient to having a husband and children, with a big shot right at home, she couldn’t let others take that away. Qiao Wei wanted to hold on tight.

Yan Lei noticed that ever since he brought his wife back, she seemed like a different person.

“Commander Yan’s wife wears such old-fashioned fabric all the time, so simple and plain.”

Qiao Wei: Natural fabrics are so comfortable, synthetic fibers go away.

“Did you hear? Commander Yan’s wife voluntarily gave up the new dormitory and continued to live in the old family quarters, giving the chance of living in a building to someone else. Look at her ideological consciousness.”

Qiao Wei: The courtyard in the broken dormitory building is much more down-to-earth.

“We misunderstood them before. Look, the commander’s relatives are here, directly arranged in the guesthouse, high-standard reception, so atmospheric.”

Qiao Wei: Having relatives stay at home is too annoying; sending them to the guesthouse is much more relaxed.

Life went from being formal and distant to passionate and lively. From living in separate rooms in the past, she now walks around in his white shirt with smooth, straight legs in front of him. Before, he couldn’t see her in the morning, but now he could see her rosy cheeks and vibrant eyes when she woke up from morning exercise.

In the past, she complained about his lack of education and didn’t allow her to touch his precious books. Now she willingly handed him a book, saying, “Although I hope you can read it too.”

“Clothes, you can’t wash them; leave it to me,” the man said coldly.

“Just because you don’t want to wash dishes, leave it to me,” the man disdainfully said.

“Here,” the man handed it over.

“What?”

“Money and tickets,” he said. “This month I found more people to exchange cloth tickets, enough for you to buy new clothes.”

Qiao Wei smiled with her eyes curled. As long as she wasn’t the cannon fodder, Qiao Wei lived happily in this 60s and 70s setting.

This one was extremely engaging for me. Truthfully, I feel that it was more focused on the political turmoil of that time rather than the romance and family building. Regardless, everything was well interwoven and I appreciated the tones of reality over drama and romance. It just leaves me with this ethereal, bittersweet feeling.

The FL was able to allow her genius and possibly autistic son thrive while living a proper childhood. Even when he chose to leave home at a super young age for research and became a protected human resource, he and she both knew this is what will allow him to soar but it’s sad to have limited contact with family.

She walked the political tightrope with grace. She didn’t cave into authority and was respectful and careful.I think the most painful part for me was seeing her standing in the midst of the storm. Seeing inherently good people being mistreated or losing their lives because of ambitions, schemes, and betrayal.

Even the almost unspoken realization that she was not the original soul was both apparent and subtle. Yan Lei was wonderfully portrayed as someone who understood the turbulent changes that will take place and embraces all her words.

[collapse]

There’s no OP gold fingers. In fact the FL is often frustrated that she can’t remember the exact years in history she needed. I really recommend giving this a read if you’re into more historically based stories. <<less

Such a lovely story. It was engaging. Just made me sad about Baby Yan Xiang. But overall, this was also a great novel.

This one was... kind of unique.

I was in just for some romance and face slapping like it's usually with novels of this trope, but got handed a story that handles that period of time in a way I haven't seen before.

It talks about its struggles but without being too angsty nor too superficial.

While I can understand why others may complain about the propaganda, for me, it was mostly done with a tongue in cheek approach. After all, thinking differently in those times would get you killed, and China is still... more>> censoring stuff even to this day.

The MC takes whatever good from it to hold onto hope and keep going. At least that's how I took it.

Except the one or two or three instances where it resembles a parent talking about their child as if they are the best in everything and no other child can compare. But as I honestly could care less about which country is better, it didn't matter to me.

Our MC was satisfying to read. I was afraid many times she would succumb to the "perfect woman" standard of those time, but she stayed true to herself all throughout.

At her core, she's someone hungry for life due to her past life suffering, and it shows in every sentence. Plus it was entertaining seeing how much bs she could make up to achieve her rural tiktok life aesthetic dream. Plus how she cunningly took advantage of ANY opportunity to seem holier than thou because of it when, in reality, she was just wanting to replicate some tiktoks, but that's one of the things I enjoyed, how smart but also naive and innocent she is.

All in all it was an entertaining read.

This is a cute slice of life. A smooth sailing and happy life. Protagonists don't face any challenges, a happy-go-round novel. I like the POVs of the fl's son written in the middle of the text.

The part where fl's son left at 12 to follow his dreams and his belief that his mother is always there understanding and supporting him.

And also It is good how fl's truth about wearing is revealed soothingly with the continuation of the story.

Overall it's a good read.

Typical MC transmigrated yo a dying cannonfodder wife. Bowed to live a good life as wife and mon. Made some changes resulting to butterfly effects.

ML is loyal one. 1v1. Initially MC was just getting a long performing her role till she fell in love with the ML. Story revolves around that era and the change in power after the fall of the regime. Good read

I really loved this. It has good plot, well written, without any drama. Everyone found their own happiness.

Spoiler

I literally cried when Yan Xiang leave at the age of 12 to pursue knowledge (which is his happiness)

[collapse]

After finishing my heart felt really calm also a little bit empty.
Spoiler

Yan Xiang (our cub) and his wife gives their child to FL and ML for good childhood.

I thought of many possibilities. But in the ending the couple lives happily with their grandchild.

I liked it. The couple and family interactions were really fun to read. There were frequent pronoun mistakes but you can still understand it. I could only read till chapter 96 for free, the rest are premium chapters. I really wanted to know what happens to the family in the end, especially their son but sadly the price of premium chapters isn't really that accessible for me but I enjoyed the free content nonetheless.

It was a good read. There was no system, no space, no ridiculous knowledge used to cheat the hardship of life in that era — I liked that. I also liked how the ML was not just portrayed as a cold and strong ML, you know, the typical type. His insecurities were shown, which made him more real to the FL and allowed her to better understand him and for them to get closer and had a richer relationship.

Spoiler

I found the ML’s quirk (fetish?) funny... He got all frisky each time he’s confronted with his wife’s education and/or intelligence, or when he’s all proud of her. That’s also one thing I liked about the ML, he’s very supportive of the FL.

[collapse]

Just like several other 70s stories I’ve read where the oldest child is a son, their love match did not live up to expectations. Throughout the story, they were very interesting and pretty amazing individuals they could be the ML or MC of a side story or a sequel, then the writer ran out of fuel and they were paired with a boring FL. 😩

Another critique about the story, the writer was vague with the dates and details of events, not sure if that was by design or not, but to me, I found it frustrating as I was trying to place the events based on actual history.

All in all, it was a good read and highly recommended. 😊👍 <<less

Good fluff story, the ending is kinda bittersweet because of their son. It is really fun to read tho cause many 1900s settings make the MC too much OP or make gigantic difference to the world her/himself. However in this story we can see how she makes a person who change the world which her child. Her son though, was addicted to research hahaha.
