Lu Ran is the neglected biological son of a wealthy family.

When he was four years old, he got lost. Upon returning home, his family favored the adopted son, Shen Xingran, ignoring the difficulties Shen Xingran imposed on him. In fact, to spare Shen Xingran from feeling upset or embarrassed, they kept Lu Ran’s true identity a secret.

At first, Lu Ran couldn’t accept this treatment and fought desperately against the adopted son. Eventually, however, he was pushed into the pool during winter by Shen Xingran, damaging his joints at a young age.

The members of the Shen family watched this unfold but remained indifferent.

Lu Ran’s heart turned to ashes; he no longer sought his family’s affection and resolutely left the wealthy household.

Yet, the Shen family and Shen Xingran continued to harass him. They pressured him in various ways, forcing him to be as grateful as a dog for the scraps of mercy from the wealthy family, leaving him with no place to hide.

While escaping from his family, Lu Ran got into a car accident and became completely paralyzed, confined to a hospital room for a full ten years.

In a moment of rebirth, he learned that he was merely a cannon fodder character in a wealthy family pampering novel, with the true protagonist being the adopted son, Shen Xingran.

Lu Ran suddenly came to a realization.

What was he hiding for? He was living a miserable life, so why should he let the Shen family have it easy?

Thus, he began to go wild…

His biased parents launched a tirade against him at the dinner table. Lu Ran kicked over all the dishes and smashed a dog’s feces onto the table, shouting, “If you’re not going to eat, then nobody eats!”

Rich kids tried to make things difficult for him. Lu Ran brandished a toilet brush and thrust it toward someone’s mouth, saying, “If you don’t want to be human, then I’ll give you a different kind of food.”

The Shen family wanted to kick him out of the house. Lu Ran simply grabbed a sleeping bag and lay down at the entrance of the Shen residence.

Come on, let’s see who can outlast whom.

In an instant, Lu Ran became the most feared person in the wealthy circles of the capital.

Some were puzzled, wondering how a seemingly helpless Lu Ran dared to act this way.

At a banquet, they spotted the neglected young master nestled in the wheelchair of the Ji family head.

The rumored gloomy and aloof Ji Min carefully held the sleeping boy in his arms, gently covering him with a thin blanket to keep him warm.

When an unobservant person approached to greet them, the man immediately made a shushing gesture, his gaze cold and serious.

People could only sigh, believing he must be deeply in love with Lu Ran.

Little did they know, this cold and domineering figure, who had long held power and was used to getting his way, was secretly thinking:

It took so much effort to get him to sleep.

If he wakes up, who can stand it…?

One-sentence summary: They are all scared.

Theme: Only by having self-respect and self-love can one earn the respect of others.

I did not know I have a soft spot for comedic characters with sob or emotionally-stirring back stories. Thank goodness there are "What If" extras, or I would have been clutching my chest for a whole day due to heartaches.

Well written plot, and a special round of applause for the brilliantly added details. In the future, I feel like I can't see ice cream the normal way again.

Read the main story and not the extras. This story honestly made me sad because of MC’s sad first life and his horrible, no good family. All of them are BAD.

I won’t say much since there’s a lot of reviews already. I just agree with one reviewer that the faceslapping does seem immature but I understand that it’s all the MC can do. He’s not OP nor given a golden finger. He’s just venting his frustration, sadness and pain in ways that he knows how.

I am so glad that he... more>> has the ML to help and protect him this time. The romance is strong in this novel.

The saddest part for me about this novel is when we find out how and why MC got lost and why he always eats four ice creams. Truly cut me to the core. Which is why I didn’t touch the extras. A good read.

The fact that he doesn’t reconcile with his brothers is GREAT. Not all families deserve forgiveness. <<less

10/10-This novel MC is great! I like his decisiveness to change and his antics to scare his family. It's ridiculous on how he can get away with it but it's hilarious.

The life of MC is too hard, he's too pitiful.. But I like his tenaciousness and despite that the tone should be angst, it was written in a positive and funny tone.

I always have to pause to avoid laughing out loud at work. If I could rate more than 10 stars for this novel, I would.

The latter part of the... more>> novel explained the past perfectly. It's full of heartache!

His family is a tr*sh but each has it's own reason, even the adopted antagonist.

I really enjoyed reading this novel and highly recommended. <<less

This started good but it quickly devolved into childish interactions and nasty tactics.

Despite rebirth, MC is truly a child using child level tactics to deal with low IQ antagonists. All he does is throw animal faeces, dunk people in toilets, subject people to critters, etc. It's so nasty to imagine.

The interactions between MC and ML give me a headache. MC is so delusional.

... more>> Not that the antagonists don't deserve it. But the nasty childish tactics get tiring.

I dropped it before I could discover the secret to Shen family losing then hounding him in the past. Irritating. <<less

Expect a protagonist who is broken and malicious, but his greatest malice is breaking out with some seemingly childish pranks. Even when he kicks people into a pool, he does not treat them as badly as he was in his first life (when he was pushed into a cold pond and not allowed to come to shore). He does not mention it to anyone initially, but his first life experience left him with some severe psychological shadows. The biggest is that his phantom limb pain from his previous life follows... more>> him into this life despite having a healthy body. I like that it is not really mentioned until the male lead picks up on it. It really goes to show how much he internalizes the pain he is in from the very first chapter.

I am not sure what to feel about the ending or the final revenge. This is absolutely not a redemption novel.
Spoiler

Even the happy what-if timeline extra where the main couple meets and saves each other earlier directly writes the brothers out of existence (they probably left with their mother considering he did buy ice cream cones for them) even though the change in circumstances would have drastically changed their upbringing. The older brother was weak and fulfilling what was expected of him. The second brother... I think his obsession with being a good brother and his intense overprotection of his 'youngest brother' stem from his childhood trauma of losing his brother in the first place. They both did bad things, but they more than paid for it. I can't judge the protagonist for how he treated them, but I would have liked to see them get some kind of conclusion in the extras after they atoned. I think the author was trying to spread a message that certain things are not forgivable and choosing to no longer think about certain people to focus on happier things is OK. However, it goes beyond simply leaving separate lives. Even strangers would show more concern than the protagonist when they hear about

Spoiler

a newly disabled person disappearing or someone getting stabbed on their way to a new life. The brothers do not necessarily deserve forgiveness, but they are essentially left for dead without any hesitation. His coldness makes sense in the main story (considering he is not exactly sane), but it is a little out of character in the extras without the additional future experiences.

[collapse]

I will not speak up for the parents at all. They were the adults yet put vanity over their parental responsibilities. Their feelings for the adopted son are not even that deep yet they were willing to go so far against their own child. They deserve their karma.

The adopted child's finale is done the best. The way the protagonist laughs at his final attempt to bond over being orphans was perfect. "Do you know what a cold pond in winter feels like?" Their inferiority in the family was similar (at least in the first timeline), but Shen Xingran will never understand that Lu Ran's experience was different from him. Lu Ran and the Shen family were victims of the adopted child's malice. Xingran was a victim too: a child without his own name who adopted the real child's identity due to the ulterior motives of one of the adults. However, he was never Lu Ran's victim and the original plan regarding his adoption was dropped not long after he entered the family. He was sincerely treated as their son and second brother doted on him with no boundaries. The only one who did not treat him 'well' was the oldest brother, but even he did not do anything to exclude him. The worst thing eldest brother did to the adopted child was dare to remember that he had a real brother and wanted to treat them the same. He lived a very good life treated well by his family. The only one to truly harm him was himself. Why would he test his mother by setting her up to believe he was an illegitimate child? Just to give himself an excuse to leave the family? She didn't even harm him when under that false pretense. How dare she embarrass her favorite son (him) by trying to acknowledge the real son as biological? She had a hint of wanting to replace him simply because he set her up to believe his father (and perhaps him) were deceiving her. He constantly drove a wedge between her and the real child and forced her to do cruel things to comfort him, yet also judged her for her cruelty. "You would even do that to your biological son, so what am I?" He was a scared kid acting out, but personally destroyed things before he could lose them in other ways. His problem is not that he is an orphan. He always knew he was adopted and saw that he was treated better than the older two sons. However, he had always held reservations and doubts about those who cared for him. You do not do what he did to people you love just because they might (platonically) come to love other people too. That leaves one thing clear: he never dared to love his new family. He flattered them and sought one-sided affection from them without committing to them as his family in return. He thinks he did in his POV, but his feelings of belonging are very shallow and clearly stop at the level of possessiveness. They and their things were 'his' and another kid was encroaching on his things. That is NOT love.

[collapse]

So to summarize, I had the sense that the author was trying to deliver a message about family. Yet, it never really connected. The main relationship and many aspects of the characterization were handled very well on the other hand. The motivations behind what happened are realistic and the way past events are unfolded is splendid. That makes this well worth a read though the ending may not sit well with everyone. But that is life. Not everyone is good or bad and you cannot see the world in black and white. The protagonists feelings about family are reasonably complex and he will find his own happy ending.

Potential trigger: the protagonist would rather die than to experience total paralysis again and he expresses this (unknowingly) in front of a disabled man (ML) who appreciates this perspective as well <<less

Highly recommended!!

A Must Read for people looking for BL RomCom! 🤣 I loved the mischievous MC & his pampering ML. They truly complement each other. I loved how both of them interacted. There is no insta love but feelings that grow over their various encounters! I also liked how things came together at the end!!

This novel had the little mix of angst & revenge added in! I simply loved how Lu Ran's brain worked out his acts of revenge 🤣🤣 Won't give any spoilers, so as not to spoil... more>> the surprise!

Some might say they are childish but it was truly unique is what I can disclose on this review! 🤣 <<less

To be honest, I didn't really have high expectation when I read this story.

Because when I seeing how MC solves any problems aroud himself, it's simply make me thought this is just another kind of brainless story that was fun to read.

It's just that the plot, twist, details of the story towards the end really made me think "This story has completely potential wasted..."

Let's talk about the antagonists first, to be honest, apart from Shen Xingran who is really tr*sh, the other antagonists really have the complexity of an extraordinary... more>> domino effect.

I say this not because I think they are innocent, it's just that it's really complicated to say that it's their fault that they turned out like that.

Let's start from the root of the problem, which MC grandfather.

Spoiler

When MC visited the Gu family to find out about his grandfather, the previous head of the Gu family (MC grandfather friend) said that MC grandfather became more and more confused when he got old which made him not want to step down from his CEO position, it was said that he didn't like his son, then he try took his first grandson which ended up as him dissapointed either.

But in the end MC grandfather wasn't wrong, because in reality MC father really wasn't a competent person, while his competent first grandson was too much influenced by his father's manipulation already because he was taught by his grandfather when he was a little older, while his second grandson was have no abilities for become successor at all.

There is one detail in the story that shows that the son of the previous leader of the Gu family was also incompetent (had average abilities) but the previous leader of Gu family was not a harsh and not overly demanding dictator, so their family's condition was still stable, and while previous leader of Gu become retired he gave the position to his son under his supervising, and he also raised his grandson as a more competent to become the new successor.

And there is also a scene where MC father says that he actually has no problem with his father scolding him for being s*upid (which is exactly like the previous leadef of Gu family who also scolded his son for being s*upid) what makes him sad and devastated is when his father says this, it really shows that he really thinks he is s*upid in a real sense (you guys understand what I mean right???)

So yeah... MC father is a crazy bastard and there's nothing to be excused from this, it just that doesn't mean he became like that from the roots like Shen Xingran.

[collapse]

Meanwhile for MC mother,

Spoiler

In fact at the beginning of the story it was said that when she married, she gave up everything and merged her property with the shen family... so the remaining identity she had was only to be "Wife and Mother in a rich house hold..." Not to mention that MC himself said several times that his mother seemed to have a psychological disorder.

So yeah, this is actually was one of the reasons why I say the potential of this story is completely wasted... If only the author could dig deeper into her characters, her character will probably become more alive and relatable to readers.

The scene where MC mother looks at their family photo, remembers her child, and then at the same time thinks that her only remaining identity as a "good mother" is gone is really crazy.

[collapse]

Meanwhile for MC first and second brothers... For me everything that happend to them felt very pitiful to the point that everything that happend in their life was very unfair for them.

Spoiler

MC's first brother is really a good child, he also loves animals and soft things, but from the start he was under crazy pressure from his grandfather, then he was also manipulated like crazy by his father... honestly I can't hate him because his life is just too sad.

Honestly, the scene where he is finally free from everything that binds him is truly one of the most relieving things in the entire story.

And the final scene where he was stabbed by a knife actually quite annoyed me, not to mention the author left it hanging without clarity.

Personally, I feel like he's still safe, but reading how he surrendered when he was stabbed and seeing him just give up because he was too tired also made me doubt it.

Meanwhile, the second brother is the opposite of his first brother, he is like a child who is not considered to exist, and always considered to be looked down.

And if at least the first brother still has some clarity about his situation, MC second brother is just declared missing, with any hint.

Honestly it really frustrates me about what is actually happening to him.

[collapse]

In the end, I really, really can't hate any of MC brothers... It's because their own lives are already miserable, not much different from MC. <<less

Love this. It has the angst, the second chances, the comedy (I kept laughing that my sister thought I was crazy lol), the slow burn romance and even the pampering ML.

Tho yes it’s quite boring for what MC did with the toilet and all those disgusting things, but it’s kinda refreshing to see a very frank MC. The extras bit meh but I love it overall so I’m still giving it full stars.

Glad I finished the year with amazing book!

I read everything, including the extras through MTL and it's amazing for me 100/10.. Also for those saying that MCs retaliation is childish, it is indeed childish and gross but it's satisfying and I wish these type of revenge is also on other novels with similar premise

The romance is nice, like the tension is definitely there but because one is in denial and the other is innocent to the point of naivety it's a bit slow.

Ngl, I read the extras because I kinda wanted closure on Xingyu coz damn he's... more>> the one that I only sympathize from that family, yeah he's f*cked up but I just know that he has that potential if he's not brainwashed by the grandpa and the father.

I recommend this just for the chaotic and unhinged MC AHAHHAHA <<less

MC and ML are great, typical but unique. The story and relationship progression for the whole characters are very realistic, and very tragic. It's HE, but not the kind of face-slapping revenge that you might be used to.

The story is funny and awesome, the latter part delves into real human nature that was so realistic that the revenge was not important. I'm not too sure what to feel about the ending... I guess it's a bit bittersweet when you understand all the truth.

I don't really know what to rate this. I think the main story is entertaining and funny, definitely 5 star material. However the resolution for the brothers were depressing and the extras felt pretty unnecessary. I skimmed the last couple of chapters and the extras because the story lost its appeal by then. I wish the author had instead taken those extras to give us resolution regarding the brother's future.

Let's start with my least favorite part of the story. It feels like the author wanted to prove that some families... more>> should be abandoned and worked backwards from there to create ridiculous situations that might make someone abandon their family. But I think in the process, the author adds logic for why the family acted the way they did, and honestly I developed so much sympathy for everyone except the dad. Especially the eldest brother. He literally had no control over anything that happened to the MC, he just was trained to look out for the family's interest before anything else, but somehow he is included in the revenge. Even the second brother was mostly acting like a normal child, and then traumatized into doing everything to try and be a good older brother. In the end, all the author showed is that families are messy and complicated, and when you add money and interest into the mix, some people become monsters. But honestly, it didn't really seem like the Shen's got their just desserts, it seemed like they got exterminated to prevent them from reenacting the former life, which was already an impossibility the instant Ji entered the picture. I was particularly sad that the author didn't try to include a happy ending for the two older brothers in the alternative timeline. What made the MC so special that the grandfather thought everyone else, including the two young children who had no power, was unredeemable?

On the plus side, the MC in this story is very determined and accomplishes everything on his own merit, never really blindly relying on the ML to do everything for him. I think he does take advantage of the ml, but even that was him manipulating the situation to take advantage of the ml's reputation. I thought his revenge might seem juvenile (it's essentially disgusting everyone and breaking very basic etiquette), but instead it feels very apropo for someone who is desperately trying to fight for survival with pretty much no winning cards in his hand. The only thing he has is that he doesn't care if he gets messed up getting revenge. He has no fear because he has very little that needs to be protected. It was touching to see him slowly acquire treasures and realize that he does have somethings he can call his own.

I also loved the slow burn of the ML and mc's romance. It felt very realistic and meaningful. The ML has someone who interests him and isn't afraid of him. The MC gains someone he can give his love to who will appreciate it. <<less

I love it so so much!!!!

Note to self
Spoiler

to reread when im sad

[collapse]

The interactions are very funny, I couldn't stop reading this

MC:

    • You might think that MC and his way of revenge is disgusting
      Spoiler

throwing dog poop, pushing people down the toilet, etc

      [collapse]
but even MC admits that he is "mad". Afterall, he spent 10 years almost in solitary confinement and he couldn't move (he was paralyzed). I think 1 of the reason why people didn't really retaliate back is because initially, they thought ML was backing MC (initially he wasn't) so they were wry of MC, it's a good coincidence.
ML:

    • He didn't like MC at first sight.
      Spoiler

He helped MC really just in passing. Afterwards, they met coincidentally and ML didn't actually like MC because he thought MC was an illegitimate child trying to take things that aren't his (inheritance). ML is prejudice towrds illegitimate children because his legs were paralyzed because of his illegitimate bro.

      [collapse]
    • Then, ML felt guilty about that so that's how they started getting to know each other better
      Spoiler

MC asked ML to take care of his dog because MC feels that it's only that can really protect his beloved dog

      [collapse]
MC's family:

    • At the beginning, I also thought it was very unreasonable how MC's family treated him despite him being their own flesh and blood. That's why I thought this story would just be a shallow, funny, cliche novel.
    • But no! As I read on, I started to understand the connections. There's truly a reason why they act like that
Spoiler

MC's Mom: She doesn't treat MC well because she feels guilty. It's because she kicked MC out of her car that MC got left behind + she didn't notice MC was not in the other car so they lost him. MC's existance also reminds her of how people accuse/gossip about her not being a good mother for losing her child

MC's Dad: So it turns out MC's grandpa made MC the sole successor of the company in his will. So MC's dad isn't okay with that. He wants the company. Coincidentally, MC got lost so he didn't make an effort to really find MC. Then, he altered the will + also adopted another child to bear MC's name.

MC's 1st bro: He cares about MC, even MC doesn't completely hate him but MC does dislike him because this brother is also the reason (unintentionally) why MC got paralyzed in his last life. This brother cares about MC but he was raised with a lot of pressure so his thinking isn't "normal". He was raised to think about the company's benefit regardless of whether it means losing his brother. For me, he is quite pitiful but MC still deserves better. He could have just sent MC abroad or at least made the other Shen family treat MC better but this bro didn't really make an effort.

MC's 2nd bro: He's just braindead I tell you.

[collapse]

MC/ML's romance:

    • It developed very naturally, it wasn't quick, they only got together around chapter
      Spoiler

      100

      [collapse]
    • ML was unconsciously patient and indulged MC at first > Then, he treated MC like an elder > He fell for MC
    • MC would often tease ML asking ML if he likes MC - it's so cute and funny because it's so absurd, ML didn't really like MC initially

The last peak blew me away! I thought this was a not a serious book at first but when I continued to read, there were twists after twists. So many point of views surrounding one incident.

THE MC! Dont wanna lie I had second hand embarrassment while reading his childish punishment methods... but after midway I was just like ML...i was encouraging like goo do it hahahah but seriously tho those were kind of hard to read because the author described them very vividly! Not just glossing over it hahahah

On a... more>> serious note, I believe the author let the MC run rampant to compensate his previous life. Because it was too tragic so I dont have anything against lack of logic. MC needed that backing of the author to be brave.

When you get to know why MC eats four ice creams at once anything can be justified. Those scenes were so heartbreaking to read. And the shen family was genuinely evil.

I WAS SO GLAD THAT MC COULD MEET OUR ML!

THEY DESERVE EACH OTHER! <<less

I seldom leave reviews here but I just need to let whoever is reading this to know that you won't regret picking this up.

I'll not spoil anything, just small overview of the stuff.

Romance : perfectly paced with the story, not forced. The ML is very respectful and puts the MCs boundaries over anything else. They fell in love gradually and I really loved reading their scenes.

Revenge : unlike other stories, the MC is not really looking for some big revenge. It's just petty but satisfying revenge. Eye for an eye,... more>> tooth for a tooth kind of thing. The rest of what happens is just karma

All in all this was like one of my favorite reads. The ending was bittersweet. I felt bad for the brothers but whatever happened is their retribution. Karma will find its way. The family member's actions can't be justified but the reason behind their actions is understandable. Human emotions can lead to a lot of terrible things. I loved how the MC stayed true to his character till the end. Would love to read the authors other works. Absolutely beautiful story <<less

I think this story is slow paced so if you like that kind of over bearing revenge there is none. That revenge just like eye for eye and tooth for tooth.

... more>> And the love between ML and MC too a little slow for me with kind of hey, you can fall in love like this?

5 stars. This is my absolute favourite genre of novels, 爽文. The MC never lets himself get taken advantage of, always playing tit for tat and getting revenge for himself. A very minor plot point I liked was how his grandpa was portrayed as this old geezer resolutely holding onto power, and molding the young MC into a tool to continue his legacy. It’s even implied that his decision in his will to leave 50 percent of the shares to MC wasn’t out of genuine affection, but rather to use... more>> this guilt trip to trap MC into contributing to the legacy of the Shen Corp. It’s lively to see how in the extras, grandpa Shen actually loved MC, and that he was actually mc’s only real relative in terms of feelings. The mc’s immediate family can f*ck off and die tho. MC is bold, ML is cold but pampering. The handicapped legs get resolved later on, ML goes through surgery, but the recovery period seems abit too fast to be realistic but I’m just happy that no major incidents took place while the ML was recovering in the hospital away from the MC. Anyways, I love this novel <<less

There is a total of 147 chapters I believe. I didn't read the extras.

Absolutely a story. It has the cuteness and all. But the family is all tr*sh, garbage. Even the novel says it. For real, the end finally puts all the suffering into perspective and I think only one element of "past events" shocked me. But it made sense. I turned off my brain for this novel, but I didn't need to.

There was a lot of psychological hints all throughout the novel marking all the way to the ending,... more>> but the ending was rushed. This was a romance, all the mystery was a secondary concern. Good story though and I do recommend. Its light hearted but has enough to get the plot.

As a bonus:

You can tell the writer wrote this without extensive (some basic) knowledge of some subjects. They didn't do enough research. That's one of my only complaints. Even with this lack of knowledge, they still managed to write an entertaining story that kept me entertained. I really think they could have done more with this novel, and elevate it to a higher level. The "plot" would have been there. Good revenge plot.

The novel is well written though it seems immature. Liked the story. <<less

This is the most unserious revenge novel I’ve ever read lol. Like bros out here committing hijinks and slapstick comedy.

MC is an actual tr*sh gremlin. Nasty little dirty guy committing bio warfare on his enemies. He specifically has a disturbing proclivity for bathroom warfare. And ML is extremely indulgent like, “yes, he’s a tr*sh gremlin but he’s MY tr*sh gremlin”

VERY slow romance. Practically glacial. But once they do get together they are sickly sweet.

I hate the trope where one of the leads is disabled and they’re magically cured. Like disabled people somehow can’t have a happy ending so the disability needs to be “fixed”.

Anyway, it was decent but probably wouldn’t reread <<less

Not sure how many tissues I spend when reading this story. Even since the 1st chapter, everytime there's only bit revelation of MC's story AS kid, tears immediately flow. MC really love his family and continue to believe his family also love him as much, that's why it hurts so much when we realize his family didn't prioritize him at all.

at first I believe his substitute have some kind of golden finger to make all his family member lean more toward him instead of our MC, but turned out it's just each family member selfishness at work

Agree that his revenge is kinda childish, but he's still child at heart because when he returned to the family he kinda revert to his child memory. And he also don't have any power or knowledge to have more mature revenge. But it's also what make it hurt more. How much he believe in his family during 1st live is how much he hates his family later, even resorting to childish antiques because he will gone crazy if he didn't do anything at all. <<less
