If the MC of this story had been another person, like if there was the current MC and another heroine or hero, then the current MC (Shang Wu Xin) would probably be a villain or cannon fodder with some sort of treasure meant to attract guys (which is actually a plot from another novel I read... it’s a BL/Danmei /Yaoi one which I love because the uke MC is actually strong... ahem. Anyway.) . Each ML were drawn to the MC at first meeting, there is quite a big leap in their feelings after every time they interacted. This is another point which highlights the difference between this novel and GDBBM, the former is clearly a reverse harem story, the later a single ML story. It’s not necessarily bad, just unoriginal. It gave a reason for the ML and MC to interact but not the most original reason.

A major downfall of the novel is that the MC is miss perfect. She is naturally endowed a heavenly appearance and status. As of Chapter 36, there has not been a significant moment in which the MC struggles. In fact, she is given plenty of resources that are handed to her without her requesting for it. While this is only natural considering her identity, it does not bode well for the niche this novel is set in; a female fighting for the throne instead of a male. It is because a novel that does not have significant struggles in it does not do well. Obstacles she faces are solved so easily that it becomes repetitive because it fails to break our expectations of how she will overcome it and what will happen next. Things are so predictable that we lose interest. Furthermore, the males close to her are all described as handsome and smart which only adds to the predictability of the novel.

This is in essence a woman's perfect dream or rom-com. The males all gravitate and cater to the woman's desires and the woman is seen as perfect. The journey the woman goes through is a perfect one. The end is a perfect one. Though initially a novel about a woman doing something historically reserved only to men, it devolves into disconnected near-utopia where there is no build up to a satisfying climax.
