It's entertaining, but the use of excessive force mentioned in the synopsis is on point. He constantly uses excessive force to personally add to the punishment and deterrent of criminals that way.

Now, there are ethical arguments that can be made about whether those people deserve it, but legally speaking he seems more like a vigilante with a badge.

And after winning the lottery (conveniently in a way that gave him an excuse to do so while saving a person, not deliberating whether this was taking the winnings away from others who ended up having to share), he doesn't hesitate to cause property damage to make a point either, just because he can pay for it.

But if you ask me, someone who commits these wrongdoings in the first place is not or at least should not be a police officer.

So some reader discretion and suspension of disbelief is required. Better to just consider him a "badass" and not take it too seriously.

Speaking of reader discretion, there's somewhat explicit violence, describing not just the overall fights but also injuries and gore. It may seem obvious from the synopsis and title, but this is not exactly a peaceful novel.

Other than punishing criminals, the ethical dilemmas are mostly written out properly (what's the best way to save someone, what if saving someone means not saving someone else, etc.). So despite the superficial design of the main character, there's still some depth to this.

So far, only a few characters with what you might call "long term prospects" in terms of writing have emerged, and hopefully the novel will develop their interactions a bit more as well, even if social interactions obviously aren't the main point of this novel. <<less
