I am the third son of a knightly aristocratic family, and I have memories of my past life. However, I never spoke of them. They were far too tragic and depressing. If I could, I would have cast those memories away into the depths of oblivion.

Being the third son of a knightly house in the frontier of this country meant that I was born with the fate of being asked to dedicate myself to the family and, eventually, die for the people. Fortunately, I was born with a “gift.”

Therefore, I had to use that “gift” to do my best to increase the chances of survival for my father, the head of the knightly house, and my brothers, the heirs.

The reason for this was simple: they loved me. That was the only reason.

Unlike my father and brothers, who were grand, noble, and full of pride, vowing to protect the people and contribute to the peace of the kingdom, I had no such lofty ideals. I only sought a way for those who loved me to live in peace.

So, please stop overestimating me.

I am the child of the frontier, the third son of a knightly house…

A being who existed to protect the people from monsters and magical beasts.

This is the story of a man born in a knightly house on the frontier of a certain country, in a certain world—his way of life and the place where his heart resided. It is a simple, first-person account of an “ordinary” man’s story.

This story is very dry and incredibly boring.

There are no characters, nobody is even given a name, they all exist as titles (such as "the Viscount's daughter" with little to no personality. There isn't even really any dialog, most (basically all) of the interactions are just summarized in the narration. It all reads like the brief exposition that a story might use to explain the backstory for a character that was introduced and dies in the same volume, except it's not brief and there's no main story for it to... more>> contextualize.

That said, I don't think the basic concepts present here are bad, I feel like it all has quite a bit of potential if only it were given more substance.

This is the bones of a good series, the problem is that it's just the bones, there's no meat to fill in the gaps and create a complete product. <<less

The story is very deep. Author take a good amount of chapters to flesh out the setting. It's nobility system is very realistic with good and bad noble there, rigid chaste system and realistic consequence in breaking the traditions. Unlike other novels that portrait nobility and tradition is bad and all noble is foolish, Author take time to explain how and why the system exist and lead to stability of the kingdom. It is good.

As for MC, our MC live without purpose in modern time before reincarnated then ends up... more>> finding purpose to protect his family and livelihood because he is showered with affection from his new family. The struggle is real because MC didn't have any cheat except for his memories and the monster is very strong compared to human. More than this is considered spoiler, but in conclusion this novel is good in my opinion.

Edit -> I am at Interlude 7 now:

The first arc was concluded neatly. The writing is good, the conflict is good and the world building is superb. Some commenters said this was dull, but this style fits the theme perfectly. It depict the world around the MC well. <<less

I really wanted to like it. The MC is a great character and a lot of general life happens. The author is good on detail so you can really understand the story. Its not boring.

That said, its so dry. The MC is only the main character of the Arc maybe half the time. He's just going through his life dealing with the complications of normal life caused by those around him. Am I sad there's not more drama? IDK maybe.
