“This is an auction to sell a strategic marriage with a set time limit, where I’ll lend my body to bear a legitimate heir.”

Prince Enrique of the small country Shamier is an alpha-dominant Omega born after 200 years. Due to being an alpha-dominant Omega, he faces the prospect of marriage and leaving for another country. There are three husband candidates. Enrique initiates an auction to become king while benefiting his country Shamier without having to leave. He proposes to marry each candidate for 2 years and bear their child. In return, he’ll choose the highest bidder as his first husband.

“Would you please consider me seriously? I sincerely want to be your one and only Alpha.”

For the swift execution of his plan, Enrique never considered Prince Anture of the Ruben Empire, who was still 5 years away from adulthood, as his first husband. Yet somehow, Enrique ends up choosing Anture…

Lioness18

Status: Completed
I honestly can't decide if I like this couple. Enrique, an Omega, wants to rule over his kingdom, Shamier, without the neighboring kingdoms constantly vying for his hand in marriage, so he decides to marry three men for two years and give them an heir. After providing them with an heir, his plan was to rule his kingdom in peace. Obviously, this didn't go as planned.

Enrique was a smart protagonist, but I think he was naive and arrogant. The idea of him being able to marry, not catch feelings, and... more>> just give away his children was a plan doomed to fail. Anture, Enrique's 1st husband, was in love with Enrique the moment he saw Enrique and as an Alpha, he was very possessive of Enrique. Anture letting go of Enrique after marriage wasn't even an option. I wouldn't exactly call their relationship romantic, because though Enrique falls for Anture, there really wasn't a good reason for Enrique to fall for Anture. They didn't spend a TON of time together. Initially, Enrique had a soft spot for Anture, because he was young and impressive when they first met, but being in love was a huge leap.

Spoiler

They met when Anture was 13, spent a few days together and then were separated for 4-5 years. When Anture returned to Shamier, he basically kidnapped Enrique, tied him up and under the influence of pheromones, they had s*x. It was closer to r*pe than s*x though because Enrique didn't know it was Anture at first. When he did realize it was Anture, he consented but it felt more like dubcon. After that they continued having s*x, which was reckless because Enrique was trying NOT to catch feelings for Anture.

[collapse]

There was a lot going on throughout their relationship, and a lot of push and pull due to conflict between kingdoms and Enrique's unwillingness to start a real relationship with Anture knowing it had an expiration date. This led to these two constantly trying to outmaneuver each other. While it was entertaining to read and to see who was going to come out on top, it still didn't explain why Enrique fell for Anture. It kind of felt like Enrique only fell for Anture because Anture was so obsessed with him. If that's the case, then any Alpha could've been the male lead. Another reason why I wasn't impressed with their relationship is because...

Spoiler

Thir relationship seemed to be mostly about s*x and Enrique trying to have an heir. When the seed was planted, Anture left Shamier again for months. They met again when Enrique was almost due but then separated again because there was a war. They met again after Enrique gave birth, but then Anture left again to finally put an end to the war. They met again. They separated. It happened over and over again. Enrique falling in love with Anture was based entirely on the idea that absence makes the heart grow fonder.

[collapse]

I don't know why but I expected more from this book. I finally got a book with two smart leads, and neither were Gary Sues, but I didn't LOVE the characters.

Spoiler

As parents, Enrique and Anture were a big disappointment to me. Enrique fulfilled his promise to have two kids, one to eventually run Shamier and the other to take over the Ruben Empire. Anture was supposed to take the 2nd child to Ruben and raise him as the future emperor, while Enrique raised the 1st child. Instead, Anture gave up his place in the Ruben Empire and left his child to be raised in Ruben so he could be with Enrique. That means the 2nd child would be raised by the grandfather (the emperor) and nobles/maids, while the 1st child would get both parents. Enrique and Anture would only get to see the 2nd child on brief visits and maybe a handful of times. I don't think Anture giving up the crown was romantic though. It was selfish. I understand he loved Enrique and couldn't bear to be without him, but I would've preferred for each parent to raise a kid. They could plan visits to see each other until the children were old enough to be without them for long periods of time. In the side stories, you could see the effect of the 2nd child being raised without his parents because he was awkward during a visit to Shamier.
