I, Oh Milhee, moved to a cable broadcasting network known for its good production environment.

When I go to a cast meeting for the new program I will be joining, I become bewildered.

The person I met was the all-round cycling sprinter who shook the world.

He was the first Asian athlete to win a stage in the Tour de France and has a brilliant career.

He was the road cyclist, Gong Mujin.

And he was my first love and my first man in college.

He became the standard for every other man I’ve met since.

A fiery love.

A relationship that grew distant.

A natural separation.

An awkward reunion.

But regardless of my circumstances, the clap of the slate.

Snap!!

I stumble like a person who is riding a bicycle for the first time.

“You’re still holding on, right?”

“I never let go.”

When I heard his voice coming from far away, I grew angry.

“Liar!”

…You already let go. Just like last time.

Summary:

To Oh Milhee, Gong Mujin was her first everything.

Her first love.

... more>> Her first man.

Her first heartbreak.

After their whirlwind romance came to an end, life moved on. Gong Mujin became a world-renown road cyclist, and Oh Milhee became an up-and-coming variety show producer. Fate brings them back together when Gong Mujin is the unexpected subject of her next project. Silently agreeing to keep their past relationship a secret from the rest of production team, they attempt to navigate the tension that had never been resolved between them.

While pride and a plethora of misunderstandings continue to keep them apart, can they gather the courage to take off their masks and show their true hearts before it's too late? Or are they merely two ships passing in the night, never to cross again?

Warning: Vague mentions of suicidal thoughts, dysfunctional family angst, frustrating lack of communication

Review: I'd say this is a cross between Close-up Encounter with My Brother's Friend and The Reason We Broke Up. The fluffy parts are super fluffy and sweet, especially during their university days. However, as a reader, you can't help but think, 'OMG IF THEY'D JUST TALK IT OUT AND BE COMPLETELY HONEST WITH EACH OTHER, THIS WOULD ALL BE RESOLVED IN 15 MINUTES!' But otherwise, not a lot of angst compared to the other novels I've translated.

The FL comes from a loving family. Like in CEBF, the FL has a bickering relationship with an older brother who gives her a hard time but loves her very much. The ML comes from a fractured family. He had an abusive father, a mother who abandoned him and started her own family after remarriage, and a lonely childhood.

The fluffy, campus dating parts of the novel reminded me of the lighthearted nature of CEBF, but their story as working adults reminded me more of TRWBU. There are quite memorable and insightful quotes that are thrown in from time to time, but they are not as concentrated and don't pack a punch like TRWBU. Honestly, most of this novel is pure fluff and diabetic-level sugary sweetness. It almost took me out of it a bit because at some point, it didn't seem very realistic... But that might just be me. Maybe I need crazy angst to have a good time.

If you're interested in the simplicity of CEBF but the occasional thought-provoking, second-chance romance of TRWBU, give this novel a read. But beware... This novel falls into the age-old trope of miscommunication and foolish cowardice and pride. <<less
