Chi Ke passed away suddenly on the day he was promoted as a director, at the age of 26.

As an overworked employee tormented by his overbearing company following the ‘996’ pattern, his final thought before death was: In my next life, I must get full eight hours of sleep every night.

But then, he found himself transmigrated into a cliche melodramatic novel about a domineering CEO and his substitute lover, as the CEO’s special assistant who worked 24/7 non-stop.

Chi Ke had read this novel when he was 15, and their shared names made the experience uncomfortably real.

When the CEO called his assistant at 3 a.m. in the night, Chi Ke was so furious that his hands and feet went numb. When the CEO skipped important meetings to pursue his true love, Chi Ke’s anger flared to the point of developing mouth ulcers. And when the CEO demanded his special assistant to find a doctor who can perform a heart transplant surgery for no valid reason, Chi Ke spewed endless curses.

In short, this was a world where the rich had no brains, and only the working class suffered.

As soon as Chi Ke arrived, the CEO’s urgent call came in, like a death knell.

Chi Ke sat silently for a moment, then pulled out a copy of the Civil Code, stuffed it into his bag, and headed to the CEO’s massive 5,000-square-meter mansion.

No matter if you are a Mr. Leng, Mr. Li, Mr. Sima or any other domineering CEO just be honest and follow the damn law before pretending to be the leader of the business world.

“What? You can’t come? Your great-uncle’s aunt’s nephew’s cousin’s grandmother passed away? Seven of your relatives died in a week?!”

Hearing the CEO’s thunderous rage on the phone, Chi Ke silently adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses.

See? This is why overworked employees eventually snap—private doctors are no exception.

________________________________________

The private doctor, Ji Qian, the outstanding second son of the Ji family, had dreamed of becoming a doctor since childhood. Rumor has it that he is as gentle as jade, just like his name, perfectly matching Chi Ke’s stereotype of an affectionate and devoted second male lead.

However…

At 3 o’clock in the night, outside the CEO’s grand mansion, Chi Ke was stunned to find the same private doctor dressed in beach shorts, flip-flops, and a tank top.

Looking at him, Chi Ke tentatively extended his hand, “Hello?”

The doctor, looking utterly exhausted, weakly shook it and replied, “Sorry, I’m a bit unwell.”

Wanting to offer polite comfort, Chi Ke said, “Think about the overtime pay?”

Straightening up, the doctor donned his white coat and said, “Thank you, I’ll try my best.”

Indeed, only the souls of normal people can resonate with one another.

The Earth could rotate without anyone, but the Domineering CEO novels couldn’t exist without special assistants and private doctors.

This novel is my love at first sight. Everything about it is attractive, from the concept to the plot and the characters' relationships. In short, this is a fateful love story about two tired of work transmigrators. It's slice of life and romantic, with a mockery of cliched drama in the background.

I really love the relationship of their couple. Very honest and cheerful top x is cold, with some evil/vindictive thoughts bottom. Chi Ke is a little distant and uncommunicative, does not like to let new people into his life,... more>> does not like those who climb where they were not asked, but in front of the slightly silly and absolutely sincere Ji Qian, who has a sense of tact and respect for him, he melts and softens. Ji Qian will not ask or say something unpleasant if he has already been warned and will not climb if he does not tell himself, on the contrary, he will think about how best to prove himself.

Spoiler

Ji Qian is a little silly and seems to be chasing Chi Ke, but does not realize his crush on him, saying that he is straight, and Chi Ke falls in love first. But MC is an adult, he doesn't suffer from bullshit, sighing "oh no, I like him, but he's not interested in me", he damn well sees that ML is sticking to him and immediately understands the situation, but he doesn't want to forcibly influence Ji Qian's own thinking, convincing him that he's gay whether he is or not, he just starts to behave a little provocatively, helping him to understand his own feelings. And I confess, this cat-and-mouse game period has blown me away.

In general, they have the most healthy and sincere relationship, btw it is the best part of the whole plot, I love them immensely. As an addition, towards the end, there are not too depraved, but exceptionally delicious explicit scenes.

And yet, both main characters did not belong to the original world, and they are probably the only ones who can fully understand and support each other.

Spoiler

The main characters admit to each other that they are transmigrators, listen to the stories of who they were in a previous life and why they died, only comforting them a little, because they both don't just want to think about the distant past, but look into their better future. They give each other strange gifts on their birthdays — new identity cards and unmarked graves, and they can be appreciated knowing how important these things are, only by themselves.

[collapse]

The main characters have friends. Their whole lives are not solely focused on each other, they love each other very much, but they also have colleagues in business and the hospital, as well as their personal and mutual friends. By the way, the secondary couple

is amazing, we did not get specifics on whether they became a true couple, but their relationship has good potential, and their friendship with the main couple is good too.

I like the way the author makes fun of typical novels about domineering CEO. She just talks about the daily lives of the minor long-suffering characters, the main characters together follow the absolutely meaningless drama unfolding before their eyes, which becomes more and more crazy over time. MC and ML does their job, sometimes they just joke about them, and sometimes they just forget about her existence and go about their business, building their relationship with something besides work.

Author pay much attention to small details in his work and does not exaggerate them. My favorite little thing is the illness of the main character. After the relocation, he no longer suffers from heart problems, but with the same lifestyle of the original owner, he also suffers from a bunch of unpleasant little things, such as chronic gastritis and spinal herniation. Attention is also paid to some minor everyday problems - the inability to talk, Ji Qian's habits, which make it almost impossible for the characters to sleep together, and so on. It's just a piece of their daily lives that is exceptionally fun and enjoyable to read.

It's a bit of a strange point, but I like the main character's relationship to the original owner of the body. I've read a lot of novels on the subject of transmigration as a tie, and usually the characters just get used to it, even if their appearance and name don't match them and they think about how they can continue to live. Chi Ke, despite being completely consistent, does not think like, "oh, life has given me another chance, since this is my new body, I will live better than in my previous life." He believes that he is taking over someone else's identity, and feels extremely wrong about it,

especially learning that the original owner committed su*cide from severe depression.

Spoiler

The first thing he does is buy a new phone, make a new bank card and rent another apartment, because he considers it impolite to delve into someone else's personal life. Even when he doesn't have any money, he uses the body's owner's credit card after writing an IOU. At first I thought he was acting weird, but damn, now I realize that it's just respect. This life and things didn't belong to you, why do you have the right to touch them? But it also seems to me that Chi Ke is very objective, and he does only the things mentioned in the su*cide note, he makes those responsible for the death of the owner responsible for this, and untying the knots of his life, he tells the people associated with him the truth, but does not answer anything. Whether it's the owner's mother or the person he once saved, he doesn't accept their apologies because those words aren't meant for him, and it's too late to say them. He tells the character's younger brother the truth, and does not pretend to be someone else, saying only that he is related to his brother, and takes care of him from afar because the original owner was worried about his younger brother's life. I really like this aspect.

[collapse]

All in all, I can say that this novel is very good for calming the heart. There is no drama and showdowns, the timely moderate rapprochement of the main characters and their relationship is so sweet. It is very suitable if you need to move away from some kind of cruel story, because there is a lot of humor and pure love here. <<less

I was having high hopes for this novel, the description sounded like something I would like, and faceblind protag (which, btw, is nicely done so far. MC didn't spell out that he has trouble recognising faces, but it is shown how he notes distinct details of someones clothing or appearance) is something I wanted to read for a while. However I can't force myself to read more.

It is clear as day that ML is also a transmigrator (not a spoiler bc I checked - it's in the original novel description).... more>> A secondary character spent several paragraphs emphasizing to MC how ML, just like MC, suddenly changed, and how ML, just like MC, doesn't remember stuff. MC himself noted how OOC he was acting compared to his novel description. And yet, not a single thought about why is that. However, based on the novel description MC now is convinced that ML is in love with someone else. For real, one centence he is lamenting how unreliable original novel is about ML, the next - he wholeheartedly believes this same novel. This is a setup for a cliche and cheap misunderstanding, and I can't take this seriously.

Another thing is, this aims to be a mockery of novels with domineering CEO and his miserable partner. However, simply adding them into this story lowers quality of it. There is no clever commentary, no jokes, just two cardboard cutouts as side characters. Also, very hypocritical of the author to mock cheap cliches. <<less
