“I can’t accept this! I can’t! Even as a ghost, I’m going to spend eternity cursing that your relationship will shatter like glass! Break apart like a pair of mandarin ducks that fly away from each other!” With such a persisting obsession, it would be difficult for the vengeful departed spirit to move on.

Ji Man had only read a light novel to pass the time, but she was unexpectedly pulled into a very strange dream. She had become the novel’s most vicious villainess.

The novel rewinds to the beginning. The villainess who had been ordered to commit su*cide reappears on stage and begins to follow the plot as she walks toward the novel’s ending once again, to a courtyard deep inside the marquis’ residence. A female lead that’s like the Holy Mother. Countless cannon fodders. The imperial family’s favor…

(read back in 2018/2019)

The ML is tr*sh, to the highest heavens, he is not even redeemable, never suffered. The FL suffers repeatedly and willingly does so for "love" after making half-hearted attempts to leave.

Emotionally & Physically abusive F*ck of a male lead. Anybody excusing his behavior because he was scheming for "political" reasons is really stretching because this guy had so many other less harmful routes he could've taken for many things he did, yet he chose the worst way repeatedly (good work author🙄). And he's supposed... more>> to be smart but makes idiotic decisions consistently and never fails to feel bad for himself and pity himself... Hypocrite.

Dissapointing novel. Repulsive actually. The only reason I'm leaving this review is to warn off people from the useless angst of this novel, and because I accidentally found the novel again after dropping it in anger.

Spoiler

I'm only writing this spoiler because I know a lot of people would like information as to how bad the male lead is and I can't remember much about what made him so bad because what remains is the feeling when I read the blurb and I was like yep this is the guy in that novel I hate to the heavens. Basically he was pretty evil to the female lead's body's Original host and then he continued to sleep with his concubines and I believe he brought a new main wife & basically continued his promiscuous behavior. He didn't care about what happened in his backyard once his favorite concubine was not hurt 🥴 I just remember him sleeping with all these women then acting like he loves the female lead then still sleeping with other woman, believing/putting faith other women over her despite knowing she's telling the truth, getting her pregnant yet taking her child away and making her essentially a woman whose child is said to be a stillborn (he gave her a f*cking DOG) and let this other woman raise her child and then gave her child to one of his other women to raise without her knowing that the baby was actually alive. Then he proceeded to threaten her with her child when she ran away after her postpartum depression and all of that.... keep in mind during all of this he still had his 'lovers', brought in new concubines and remained the ab*ser he is 🤢 he is even worse than the male lead in PGC and Legend of Hao Lan...

This is one of those novels where I wish Shi Sheng from SCT would transmigrate and just blow up everything in this world with her lightning balls. Make the male lead fall from grace and just stab every piece of sh*t characters with her sword. If I was a girl who likes men, simply reading this novel's male lead is enough to make me a lesbian.

I don’t really write reviews a lot, but this is a bit of a unique case because I very rarely make the active choice to drop a novel. Usually I can drift in and out of novels if they become less interesting or the translator updates less frequently, but Dreamer in the Spring Boudoir is translated by one of the BEST translators I’ve ever read, and I honestly stayed a long time just for her. Fuyuneko is great, I’d read her next project in a heartbeat.

This novel starts out more... more>> or less as standard transmigration stuff, our MC lands in a cannon fodder’s body and has to help her achieve her goals, blah, blah, blah. But the further the narrative progresses, the more you realize how much you just..... don’t like the people in the narrative?

The male lead is honestly just such a bad person that I didn’t even want her to date him anymore. He’s scheming, but unlike more favorable black bellied men, he seems to have NO sincerity to our MC
Spoiler

in fact it feels a bit like he’s only sincere to the freaking black lotus, which is even more annoying.

[collapse]

Our MC seems to slog through conflict after conflict, with no end in sight, and it feels more like a weary journey with no reward. Life just.... sucks. It’s a bleak reminder of how much it s**ked to be a woman in ancient times I suppose, but it’s not very enjoyable to read. <<less

I don't know how could anyone like this novel. Granted, it's ancient Chinese culture of harem but come on, the male lead is the most inglorious bastard I'd encounter since I've started reading c-novels... And then the FL still ended up with him. It makes me sick to my stomach. Maybe we just have our own cup of teas we'd like enjoy. This one clearly isn't mine.

Premise was alright but then the story became utterly frustating. I skipped 3/4 of the novel and jumped directly to the ending and it was just awful. I mean the story could have been so much more with something like comedy, light-heartedness, fluff and character development but NO! The whole story just left a bad after-taste in my mouth. It was disappointing. Not worth to read.

I binge reading this novel during quarantine of Covid-19 outbreak when I had nothing else to do. First of all, I love skimming novel ending and what I read was this is not typical transmigration novel but the female lead Jin Man just dreaming that she had transmigrated into the novel she read and taking Nie Sangyu's place. When she woke up everything was gone but she decided to come back into dreamland to be with her supposed family in the novel.

First of all, forgive me for spoiler because without... more>> spoiler there is no other way to explain this novel better.

This story centered about second female lead, Jin Man transmigrated and woke up in another s woman body named Nie Sangyu. That woman was abandoned wife of Marquis Moyu, or Ning Yuxuan by his true name. At first, I am impressed that Jin Man is very intelligent woman of 21th century education. She knew that her husband dislikes her and she never yearns for love of her abusive husband or his approval. Jin Man is not Mary Sue and represents the struggle of every woman facing whether in our era or the past ancient era. Her life in Marquis's mansion is dreary despite being one of distant royal bloodlines. When her ungrateful husband brought Wen Wan who is the female lead of the novel, she was forced to attend her wedding and she is punished by beating with heavy stick until she can't walk for 2 days and confined in inner courtyard, almost starving to death. I think Nie Yuxuan isn't bad and represents every man of his era. The life back then is sucks and women are just second class being without any rights.

Let's us flip to 150++ chapters. OMG. What a bad moral and Stockholm syndrome preached in this book. I think our second female lead is genius who knows how to protect herself but she feels heed over the heels to such as chauvinist and narcissistic husband known as our male lead, Ning Yuxuan aka Moyu. There were many commenters here defended this s*um of man who deserved nothing but the deepest pit of hell or heavy karmic retribution. They said; ignore such crybaby girl who just want fluffy love story, what male lead did was typical for man in ancient era. I'd said bullshit. What he did never represents every man of ancient era. From our history record, there were many great men, scholars, merchants who treated women much better than our era. His inhumanity and brutality can't be excused. Ning Yuxuan is failure and embarrassment to entire human races that animals much better than him. I got that this novel is subversion to typical politics, scheming and toxic drama. Our MC doesn't win every battles and that is realistic part of life where we won't win everything in our life.

Let's us flesh out where unrealistic part come from, the writer wanted to create multi-dimensional characters but sadly we don't live in alien plane or 5th Dimension... We are living in physical third dimension plane.... Most reviewer praised that their flawed personality made them human and they are not two dimensional characters. I cringed at this comment. When they created many dimensional characters, the characters became weird, unrealistic and turned into flip-flop/flippant. For example; both ML and FL became genius beyond their usual capacity when plots demands and become idiots as plot demands. I dislike this style of writing. Ning Yuxuan is clueless and taking Jin Man for granted, he lost track of his own games because he schemed too much and he needed help from Jin Man every time he wanted to free or save his own ass. But at the same time, he is the same guy who overthrow all four emperors. He did it without retribution and retaliation from the past emperor supporters because apparently he is the top genius and plot armor as male MC.

And despite Jin Man's contribution to save his ass, Jin Man was labelled as vile woman by society and used by everyone as Spacegoat and this blockhead woman did nothing to get out of her problem and get rid of her toxic husband for good. She love his husband so much at the end after he divorced her. She needed to endure countless ab*ses, framing, torture, violence as his wife. And her husband is dangerous criminal worst than hi*ler himself. He hid behind his sweet facade but taking everyone as piece of rags. He mu*dered his unborn baby because they are threat to him, he love domestic violence, he indirectly framed FMC, he replaced Jin Man's baby with cats to 'save' her without explanations causing great shame and drive the MC into insanity. Ning Yuxuan is inhuman and piece of shit, , , , he is egomaniac, possessive, abusive, jealous, vile, misogynist, sexist, arrogant, prideful, violence, abusive, s*upid, psychopath, rude, disloyal, dishonest, superficial, selfish, coward, tormenter, unfilial, hypocrite, and other countless bad traits. He is irredeemable egoist man. Even in ancient era, he would be beheaded for such crimes and I don't believe that he can avoid it for too long before usurping throne for himself

Then everything was good and tuned into hunky dory. All bad things forgiven by Jin Man without Ning Yuxuan redeeming himself simply because she loves him. Jin Man is woman of modern value but she turned into status quo. We think that ML changed and love our FL for real. He is not.... He just wants Jin Man because of his egoistic desire and possessive feeling towards FL. He wanted to keep her by his side forever because she is useful to him. He wants her because FL is far but he never respects when FL is nearby. Jin Man is one of brain-dead MC. I didn't know she was happy or not after that but she always obsessed with ML that she wanted to be in vegetative or in comatose forever so he come back to that world. <<less

I tried. I really did. I started reading this novel because the TN, Fuyuneko suggested it in one of her other novels.

I get the novel is set in ancient times. By the ML is absolute tr*sh, he does not have one redeeming quality and had thus far not done anything good for the FL.

I never expected him to fall in love immediately but his actions are intolerable. Considering the fact that the FL is a modern woman who transmigrates into olden times, idk how she fell in love with such... more>> a tr*sh man.

The novel does have the tags like polygamy but there are also tags saying couple growth and clever protagonist.

Honestly I tried to pull through till the end but the novel was depressing, the ML made the romance the worst one I have ever read, there was practically nothing enjoyable to read in the novel. The beginning was so good, the FL was so promising. But the downfall back to the point how the female is ready to accept the male with any flaws and his hundred women in the harem just disgusts me. I had no expectations from him as he is a man set in ancient times but the FL isn't so I was very disappointed with her choices.

Spoiler

the ML imp**gnates the FL and two other concubines at the same time. He then kidnaps the child (though he has his reasons for it, which frankly are only for his own solo goals) and let's the FL assume that her kid died. She is borderline suicidal at this point

[collapse]

Honestly I could understand how the ML fell in love but his actions did not change.

Spoiler

till the very end his own goals are more important than anything else. He still has various concubines who he still sleeps with and he keeps on having kids with them. He says he loves the FL but does absolutely nothing for her and what truly disappoints me is that the FL still loves the ML

[collapse]

I would have preferred if she literally went for any other guy other than the ML, how a modern woman settles for a man who is still married to various other women and has kids with those women is something I truly can't understand. It would have been best if the novel remained focused on political schemes and palace intricacies rather than forcing the romance factor.

All in all, even the one star I have given is for the intelligence Ji Man showed in the beginning <<less

The story isn't too far in yet, but I really like it! I had been following along with Chongfei Manual and was thoroughly disillusioned due to the occasional petty heartlessness of both the male and female leads. This novel is the opposite - the MC is a cool-headed, intelligent, thoroughly down-to-earth adult woman, with a modern mindset. She isn't keen on dying for love and doesn't mind groveling a little bit to get to a comfortable place in life. So far the author has also been doing a great job... more>> of fleshing out the other female side characters, many of whom are not just allies or enemies, but actually people with their own thoughts and goals.

Meanwhile, the translation is smooth and clear, so no issues there at all. There is still quite a ways to go, so I'm looking forward to many, many more chapters! :) .

EDIT at Chapter 120: Man I am not a fan of the male lead at all. He's a product of his time, but it's quite unfortunate because he rather ruins the novel for me. <<less

This novel is sooo bad for my health. I wanna read all chapters but there's no more. Wanna MTL but it'll fry my brain. Wanna wait for the translation to finish but can't help reading when latest chapter updated.

So stressful ??

Update review... 21 August 2019

... more>> There is no character that I'd like to stand for. The MC and ML are as flippant as often they like to be.

Initially, I was quite hopeful that the husband was not the actual ML, but he is. Which rob a star from my 5 star rating.

To make it worse, the MC joined the fray being contradictory and following ancient custom like she born into it which was being one of them (literally), just why did she held on for so long? That's another star went away. <<less

I was seriously rooting for Mingjie. He appreciates the MC and seriously protects her... I just don't see after 200+ chapters what is so good about that faithless man.... I wanted to continue reading but when she lost her baby.... I just can't anymore...

Should I say that I already expected this kind of ending and am still GREATLY DISAPPOINTED?

Well, at first the story start with pretty good plot, a strong MC and with her amazing view of life, to not fall for ML and just want to continue her live peacefully. But later on it goes so damn frustating cause og sc*mbag ML and his sh*t ways of doing things. Seriously, for ML to kidnap MC's son and not letting her know until 3/4 part of the story, taking many concubines who always... more>> tried to harm MC, and let MC watch her own family get excecuted, he's the WORST SC*M ML I've ever seen. And in the end, MC still choose to forgive and stay with him? I cried SO MUCH because of ML mistreatment to MC and for MC's s*upidity. I just wanna ask, "GIRL, ARE U SO GODDAMN CRAZY?"

If it was me, I'd poisoned ML until his body's paralyzed, make him onesidedly fall in love with me then GLADLY return to modern times without burden and let the ML suffer for eternity.

But, oh well, I'll give 2 stars to the translator for their hard work translating this story. <<less

Yes the beginning of the story is interesting, but afterwards it got so weird and boring I decided to drop it.

I usually do not give out bad reviews because I do not want a reader to miss out on some good novel based on what another person said. I also know there are worse novels out there, but the reason why I rated this so low was because I was so dissapointed.

Since the first couple hundred chapters are amazing, I had high expectations for it, only to have my hopes... more>> destroyed. This feels worse than reading a bad novel because your only regret in reading a bad one is wasting your time. This one however was good but later on it was bad that everytime I reflect back on it I feel angry and sad.

You might be wondering how I have read up to over chapter 500 when it is not even out yet. Yes I read the original version because it was so good I couldn't wait. If you do not want any spoilers, I suggest you stop reading now.

Spoiler 1: Things went downhill after the tabby cat incident. The MC is usually very smart, but I do not know why she got so dense when her husband brought a kid out of nowhere back around the same age as her 'lost' child and she just believed him. I mean she should at least suspect something right?

Spoiler 2: Later they divorced. Then she cross dressed as a guy and started doing business. Then she agreed to marry a little girl who is obnoxious, spoiled, and annoying. Yes she pretended to be a man and married a girl. But don't worry, she still has a bunch of affairs with her ex-husband, which was discovered by one of the harem ladies, who mistakenly thought the male lead was gay. Hahhh you see my point now? How did things get so twisted like this? I dropped it right here, finding no motive to read further. If you read past this part you can tell me about it, I would probably ignore you. <<less

This is slowly moving further and further up my list of favorite web novels. The story seemingly is yet another harem intrigue novel where the MC transmigrates into the villain or secondary female lead, only to charm the ML into somehow becoming monogamous. And I do like those stories personally. However The Dreamer in the Spring Boudoir isn't that.

It's not really a romance per say, at least it is not the main focus yet (200 translated chapters out of ~513 in). But rather, it's a political intrigue with a potential... more>> dash of romance down the road sometime. And the MC is not omnipotent either with some sort of cheat or attitude that allows her to instantly win every time someone challenges her, or to disrupt every scheme against her. The plotting behind the scenes is never spelled out for us, the readers, and instead we have to interpret the attitudes of the other characters based, in large part, only on what they say and do as we very, very rarely get an insight into someone else's mind.

Spoiler

I also have this strong desire for Ji Man, the MC, to be the first (at least that I've read) female protagonist to actually leave the ancient world behind when she has the chance to. Considering we're closing in on the half-way point and she still has no feelings for the male lead, I'd be pleasantly surprised if she never truly falls for him and just GTFO's, since she has a clear way back to the modern world.

This is one of the few novels that I actually stayed up all night binge reading. It was very well-written that every sentence seems like a cliff-hanger making you want to know more. Even after reading some spoilers it doesn't diminish my interest but made me even more curious. It's a great novel with an interesting storyline. For me, it's so good that I have a hard time putting it down. Although it's tagged as romance, it has very little of it. So this is probably not for those readers... more>> looking for fluffy romantic themes. It's not super angsty compared to other transmigration novels. Compared to those, this is probably more of a light read. The main character is also very likable esp. Her witty dialogues. She's not the submissive easily bullied by the ML type but also not your over the top strong perfect MC. Lastly, it's not 1000 chapters long. ^_^ <<less

First, for all new prospective readers, let me clear up a few things...

THIS IS NOT A ROMANCE NOVEL.

This is a tale of survival and all that it should entail.

... more>> So, for all the readers desiring a "Husband pampers wife" type of fullfilment story, some face-slapping avenger or just a feel good, cute & fluffy novel about a husband mending his ways... LOOK ELSEWHERE. This novel is definitely not for you. Mind you, there are some complex feelings and affection but nothing really "romantic" per say.

This transmigration novel tells the journey of a modern woman who's dumped into the backyard of an ancient & chauvinistic ML. She used to be the first wife but has just been spurned and demoted in favor of a new woman (the heroine of the novel). And contrary to most novels where the hero or heroine can just magic-wand the deadly planned course of events into better ones, it doesn't happen here. The MC has to navigate a backyard that is unfamiliar to her by using her smarts, trying to avoid the most pressing dangers, and by sometimes showing submission in order not to thrive, but just to survive. The story centers around the tense and darkly ambiguous dynamics and power-plays between the MC & ML.

Also, let's be honest... the ML is a GRADE A prick: he is utilitarian, cold-hearted, sexist & narrow-minded. It's his personality trait. He's not simply "flawed" nor is it a temporary phase where he, unconsciously, was just waiting for Miss Right to show him the light and turn him into a decent human being. He has some charms to him but charm and decency are two different things. What changes is that later on he's willing to make some concessions which make him more palatable.

WHY DO I LIKE THIS NOVEL THEN?

First, the obvious. It's a beautifully written and translated novel.

And while I generally enjoy transmigration or rebirth novel, this one happened to be a little different as nothing is purely as it seems! Remember how most transmigration novel have preset values and emotional range assigned to most characters? Not here people! As the MC breaks into the novel and starts changing the timeline, so do the characters and you slowly start to discover that none of them are inherently good or evil: they are all morally grey people (shockingly so sometimes) with motives and aspirations of their own. It's that psychological thrill that I found engrossing. The MC & ML's tense relationship is a prime example of that.

Also, the MC has a personality that just fits my taste and that I found refreshing: she is a smart, cold, older women who's willing to fight dirty to survive, in a world where no one is really her ally and the set of events are running against her. She is put through the wringer time and time again but doesn't let go. There's a sense of suspense & impending danger that I rarely find.

Finally, I feel like this novel is meant for maybe an older audience? It's rare so I enjoyed it all the more for it. It's ripe with the concession and thought process of someone in their thirties. A.K.A the age where love is no longer the main and only driving factor of a relationship. Yep, there's a reason why the expression "young love" exists...

So it's definitely a novel I would personally recommend but just not to everyone ;) <<less

First off this is the first time I've written a review and it's because I just have to say how sh*t and scummy the ML is. Alot of ppl have talked about this already but I just can't help myself because that's how scummy he is. Firstly, the novel itself isn't bad per say and the translator does a really good job too. I honestly would've loved this book if the ML was a different person.

The ML's relationship with MC starts out terrible with the way he treats her (really... more>> even during the point where she starts liking her a little, it doesn't seem like it at all)

Spoiler

May not be in order but I'll list off some things he did: 1) He "schemes" too much or in my opinion he's too concerned with his power and selfish so he fence sits a lot which results in him hurting the MC 2) He often uses MC as a magic problem solver disregarding her feelings (Ex. Knowing there's enmity between MC and wanwan, he constantly throws wanwan for the MC to take care of and the MC has to treat her like some master too) 3) In the very beginning he treats MC like dogsh*t and is very biased towards the novel FL (Ex. He has absolutely no understanding towards his own harem at all. Quickly judged MC in two cases, one of them leading MC to being hit as punishment to where she couldn't move for 2-3 days.) 4) After MC's baby is stolen and replaced with a cat, instead of consoling her (which he can't cause he a can't pick a side between crown prince and 3rd prince) or even secretly consoling her by visiting her in secret more. He does a lot of things without explanation like visiting other women instead and avoiding MC. 5) He hides MC's son from her, after he finds MC's son, he lets a random woman disguise as the mother and takes her as a concubine. (I mean I get it may be dangerous for the son but at least tell MC it's her son, she's smart enough to act. Idk if he even told the son that MC's his real mother while being raised by another woman. It's honestly really sad because MC missed the most precious time with her son and he doesn't even recognize her as his own real mother. MC was also pained over not knowing whether her son was alive or dead for 2 years) 6) Non of the people that harm MC ever got a satisfying death. Idk if ML has attachment problems but he always lets off the people who harm MC so easily. 7) After all this, MC finally escapes his damn harem and ML BUT GUESS WHAT he uses her son to threaten her into coming back to him

[collapse]

At that point I dropped this novel, it's a good read but with an ML like that, my blood pressure can't take it. It feels so unsatisfying, MC's life just feels like a tragic story meeting him. Honestly don't know how there even is a happy ending, this is an aspect about MC that I find most unbelievable, she recognizes he's s*um and knows that all his actions are done to benefit him somehow yet she still falls in love with him?! wah....

Spoiler

ML does supposedly have character development later on but like I stated before, it's not satisfying. I feel like in this book he's the only one who get's to be happy throughout the book. He constantly piles problems onto MC but whenever MC has a problem or has been framed, he doesn't help, heck she'd be luckily if he didn't punish her when she's framed or give her more problems. He doesn't really truly suffer and burn in regret for his prior actions to MC either, she just kinda forgives him and falls in love. This is what makes me hate the fact that he's ML the most. I'd be able to deal with it if after he did all that shit, he lost MC and suffers, realize how scummy he was, almost die in regret or at the very least properly dealt with MC's enemies. But he doesn't, at the end it felt like the MC herself kinda gave up, content as long as he loved her the most (much like the original novel FL). No requests of him not having other women or anything.

[collapse]

Would've rated this 2 stars but gave an extra 1 star just cause this truly is a good novel, it's just the ML ruined it for me... I wouldn't say don't read this novel but I'd caution wasting your time (some ppl like me, end up dropping after reading 200-300 just cause of how disappointing ML is). MC's enemies cause her grief and trouble but unlike other novels where they get slapped good, the problem is always resolved letting me feel stuffed without a place to vent. Came in really excited reading the summary, left kinda disappointed and mad. <<less

Not a story for babies.

Not a story for little girls dreaming of prince charming on a white horse.

and for those who's reading list is full of titles like pampering wife overdose, pamper wife to death or pampering pampered evil pimp's peerless supersaiyan wife.

Not for those pervs and clean freaks drooling on a virg*n ML protagonist who kept his plaything in a locked box for 2000 years specially waiting for FL to be born and offer his v*rginity to her on a platter (like most of those Cn novels anyway)... more>>

This is a story in a story. FL gets s**ked into a story she was reading and the author spins another story from here... AND this trip into that story it's a rollercoaster of emotions.

I have not come to seek comfort in this story and the plot will not comfort your parched hearts. because the characters are so true to their personalities and don't succumb to plot armour, it's a very bittersweet narrative. remember FL isn't even looking for romance so you as a reader can't be that s*upid to look for romance for her!

ML is flawed, FL is flawed. like everyone who read this I was extremely disappointed with FL and ML. Ugh especially the FL, in my eyes she got all the symptoms of disociattive identity disorder aka split personality disorder. Her excuse is the body doesn't belong to her so she thinks she can enjoy the situation or s*x or carry a pregnancy plus giving birth on commission #rolls eyes. Plus keeps talking to ghosts voices in her head randomly. yes it's random. and her acting cool is more like creepy.

So because I don't like this weird woman Many times I also wanted to drop reading. many times!

but believe me! Hang on tight! don't give up on this novel because the latter plot development is great and unexpected. plus the voices go away for a good while hahaha. Plus later she sorta settles for one identity
Spoiler

well almost. later she disguised as a man yo! even tried to marry a woman yo!

[collapse]
, discarding the multiple identity naming during reading which was giving me a headache. Only then it didn't seem like I'm reading a hilarious crazy woman comedy.

everything revolves about making the right choices. people Lives, circumstances, politics, balance, survival, protection, all depends on bitter strategic choices in this novel. And sometimes sacrifices like loved ones, feelings, money have to made constantly.

the entertainent level of this novel is high. it's not repetitive, fresh each page and beautifully translated. thank you fuyuneko. <<less

I have given up on this novel as well. In the beginning, I was thinking to stockpile the angsty chapters so that I can see HE. But I was disappointed by that playboy ML. He has too many women and so many issues. Moreover, his personality is so bad that I just wanna smack him in the face.

So yeah, if you like drama (like dealing with too many women, s*upid ML, and complex politics.... basically too much toxics), read it. But if you can't deal with the drama, it will... more>> be wise of you to stay away from this one. <<less

Why did I waited so long to read this novel?! And what's with the ratings?! This novel and Fuyu Neko deserves better!

First of all, I am kind of both regretful and happy to push this novel so long, because at one point you knew you just missed some good stuff, but on the other hand, hey they have uploaded so many chapters! I just finished marathon all the chapters within 2 nights, now I have a big black eyes but it's all worth it!!

If you like novels such as Eight... more>> Treasures Trousseau and To Be A Virtuous Wife, with a bit mix of The Rebirth of Malicious Empress, you'll definitely enjoy it. It's started off with the basic, standard transmigrated modern female lead, who reads a webnovel about this villain character, who basically ended up dying because she's been mistreated by her husband. Very similar start to Doomed To Be Cannon Fodder.

I love the slow-burn romance, the neat and detail writing about each POV of the characters, just like ETT and TBAVW, which also why I think Fuyu Neko as the translator has done a very good job. It has much more realistic plot with the political turmoil around the era and therefore affecting their household affairs.

The male lead does not fall in love and showing his affections instantly like Xian Junwang or Duan Wang, he's a Marquis that has a lot of things going on, considering who he has to protect and throw away. It's not a fluffy romance novels, it has more mature level of story. He can't be brazenly wanting to protect the people he loves, and you know, just get a way with it. In TBAVW you saw Duan Wang/He Heng dismissed his harem for Qu Qing Ju almost immediately and later on never takes any women, which is just straight impossible, considering men in that era (especially with status) wouldn't do that despite of loving the main wife dearly.

I love it when the male lead gradually realized that giving love to someone he adores is not enough for him to judge whether that person can be reliable and capable on taking care his household. He learns to appreciate people, thinking that if a person is upright and reliable, he will eventually love them instead. Which is a very good view on marriage perspective, even in today's time. It's only sweet during the honeymoon phase, then it hits hard.

He's still very courteous towards each of his concubines, attending them at least once a month, favored or not, which is considerate. They actually could live happily if not of greediness because the male lead is an ok guy. Although I definitely hate him haha :")

Our female lead, who considers herself still to be the second female lead, has strong character like Shen Miao. But she's not a genius and know-it-all, which is very approachable and real. She's not timid nor careless, she tides things carefully. She's kind and humane, despite all the things happening around her, but also not that magnanimous. There's a lot of events she doesn't know and understand, she can still avoid some schemes, but she's not a mary sue who do things perfectly.

She's a good businesswoman and clever in using her strong points just like Chu Lian in Transmigrator Meets Reincarnator, proving that she's capable being on her own. Without her husband, she would still lead a satisfactory life. And this will always be my most favorite trait of transmigrated/reincarnated female leads.

The plot is heavy, and very long. You need to be patient and just read through. Because the style of writing really reflects on 'slice of life', some of you might not enjoy it, but I definitely love seeing the chain of events that happens. Like the third Newton's Law, action=reaction, it's just fun to see how one events can affect the other and so on. It's slow, but you grasp everything from the story and able to assess deep into it.

To be honest, I think this is the best transmigrated novel I've ever read so far. The plot, the translation, is just top notch. 5/5 from me :) <<less
