And Adele, who until then had lived in peace as the Duchess, tried to go back to her family. However, her husband’s younger brother, Noah Maktus, requested her hand in marriage by citing an old law that dictated that the now widowed duchess needed to marry him.

So Adele has no choice but to go ahead and marry him in order to resolve the family issue. But now she has to face her first night with him…

I am confusion by some of these reviews????

Only on this site could people read a novel where a woman is being forced into a shitty marriage with her shitty brother in law who's an obsessed rapist and somehow manage to complain more about her than him just because she's gentle and kind. Like, how is being gentle, kind, and naive worse than being a RAPIST? Is it the misogyny or something?

the ML here is actually sick in the head. The FL here is sweet, so if ya'll don't like sweet... more>> and kind FLs, yeah sure, this might not be your thing but like the ML is actually a rapist, and that's a thousand times worse! Too many times does the FL say that she wants him to stop or not to touch her and he forces himself on her, all under this gross ass claim that she secretly likes it. And he keeps bringing up her dead husband while he's raping her, it's actually disgusting. Any time she tries to talk to him about important or serious topics, he always somehow manages to bring it back around to grabbing at her, touching her, or accusing her of secretly thirsting after him, like sir no??? She wants to have a normal conversation with you, you bastard! But I guess some guy treating you like a filthy who*e who wants nothing but s*x is the dream? This is a nightmare of a smut novel.

and the real kicker is that the author decides that the FL actually does like it? That idea is so gross because, yeah sure, even if she did "secretly" like it, it doesn't change how in the moment, she's telling him no and that she doesn't want it but he does it anyway?? This novel is deadass romanticizing the idea that men understand what women want more than they do, like "oh you're saying no, but I know you actually want it" to which a woman would definitely respond with "huh, I guess I do!" ???? Uh, what?

I'll make a review real quick.

Smut is kinda good, if we ignore all empty refusals from FL's part. Seriously, I feel like I'm reading sum r*pe play with how much she shouts "N-no! Do-on't! Stop!". There was one, I REPEAT ONE TIME, when she said " Yes~!", I suspect it was translator-kun's error. Be more careful lol.

I also dislike FL in general. She is the basic holier-than-thou maiden that's distributed in bunches to smut novels like those. She's shy, innocent, cute, soft 'n sweet 'n gorgeous but doesn't realize it... more>> herself... Haaah, such is life, can't believe I am looking for a decent protag in a smut novel.

ML is also tr*sh that's only good in bed. This bit*h be bringing up his ded bro and her late husband during s*x every damn time and the atmosphere turns so f*cking awkward.

I want to use all my might to express my disappointment for this novel it has r*pe and all kinds of unfaithfulness and s*upidity. It's so tiring to read. Yes, the smut must have been good but thats it, they're too annoying to handle.

I wanted to leave a comment on the site where I saw this, Lunarletters, but idk why I cant see the comment section. Anyway, I'm glad I can badmouth it here. Am I being petty? Yes I am.

Adele and Noah you both are pathetic and childish. Grow... more>> up. Especially the imperial family. The emperor is also a tr*sh like the usual leader of today. I hate everyone in this novel.

Definitely a 5-star worth novel. Story is progressing quite nicely. ML is head over heels in love with FL and treats her rather well. We can also see some character development on the characters. Looking forward for more chapters!

Every chapter is cut so short so even though I already read up to chapter 19, nothing is worth mentioning yet.

The translation is okay. Sometimes they mistranslate the pronouns like even though it was the Duchess, the pronoun used is "his" so it gets confusing sometimes because the translator mistook who is doing what. There's also some weird mistake in translation but it's not bad enough that it deters me from enjoying the story.

MC's deceased first husband seems to not love his wife? I think there is more into it basing on ML's mumble when he questioned his own eldest brother if he ever loved MC.

Also MC's deceased first husband died during a storm when they've set sail to a mine that ML have said to him. Is it a coincidence? More chapters pleaseeeeeeeeee <<less

Okay, this one was a RIDE. I completely get all the people who think Noah is a rapist, although personally I'm chalking that one up to cultural differences. I've read a lot - and I mean a LOT - of historical romances, and the forced into a relationship where they have to have s*x to consummate the marriage is an exceptionally common trope. This novel falls very firmly into that category, and if that's not your cup of tea, this novel is not going to be your speed. Technically a... more>> marriage was not legally binding if it was not consummated, so yeah, they really *did* actually have to have s*x. That being said, I do NOT think Adele was particularly unwilling, just that it was very soon and she was confused about the whole thing and in mourning. Was that scummy of Noah? Absolutely. Was Noah also seizing the chance that had finally presented itself to get the girl of his dreams? Also yes.

Read the tags, people. They are NOT for show here, although I am not sold on the r*pe tag and think dubcon would be better.

This particular setup and set of tropes is so far into my preference it's not even funny.

Obsessive love - Noah has been in love with Adele since he was 12 and she was 17, and was beyond overjoyed when he came home from his knight's training and found her at his family home, here to be married into his family. The betrayal and shock when he discovered she was to wed Enon, his older brother, must have been INTENSE.

R*pe/R*ape victim become lover/S*xual ab*se - I'm gonna say this one is more like dubcon than r*pe or s*xual ab*se because of the necessity of consummating the marriage and cultural differences. One of the things that drives me INSANE about smut - ESPECIALLY looking at you Japanese authors - is the No Means Yes and Stop Means Take Me I'm Yours, as Megera so pointedly put it. Communication is and always should be the cornerstone of any relationship, and while people are complex creatures, not saying what you genuinely mean is misleading and only causes problems. The communication between Adele and Noah is pretty awful at the beginning because of their differing viewpoints and not understanding the other person's feelings because We ArEn'T gOiNg To TaLk ThIs OuT lIkE aDuLtS UUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHH This set of tags comes up much more as bedroom play to me, and I am definitely biased, but this tag is kind of misleading.

All in all, this is a sweet and tender story about people learning to bloody well TALK TO EACH OTHER and not just communicate in bed. The emperor is a idiot and the princess is an absolute brat, and they could have really been left out of the whole storyline, but I understand the author wanting to have some outside conflict to highlight the plot. I liked this one a LOT and will probably reread it. <<less

1, 5 stars because I've read worse.

I don't get the feeling that ML sincerely cares about FL. He isn't even slightly treating her right. His love for slaughter and the pleasure of killing seems like coming first instead of love. While she's in a dangerous situation his first instinct is having fun while decapitating some random man.

Their s*x life is so... gross. I LOVE some spice in s*x but these characters were not going with it. He looks at and treats her like an object. Like slapping and hitting her... more>> while "making love"... She's already timid and in depression because of her dead husband. He also keeps bringing up her dead husband while they're at it.... What are you doing author??

ML never listens FL. He always keeps touching her, assaulting her with vulgar words in a serious environment, not taking "no" for an answer...

I feel like it's gonna get more and more tiring to read. I'm not very interested in the plot either, (can guess what's happening after seeing his love for bloodshed...) so I'm dropping this before it leaves a worser taste.

Not really the most unique plot out there but it's not that cliché either. FL is kinda prudish and ML is psychotic and obsessive with FL in the first half of the story which gets explained later in the story why he's like that. FL eventually explores her suppressed sexuality with ML in the various smut scenes but I do wish author-nim could've been more provocative being that the first smut scene was kinda r*pey. There are many plot holes in the story, but it's a descent one to read.

All I can say is I LOVE THE MAKTUS couple and their whole love story. I love the smutty element and the plot is gold. So yeah, this one should be given a worthy 5 stars. Thank you LunarLetters for a job well done in translating it. Perfect description!

Not the best story line - but the smut is GOOD! It is r*pey and if you're not comfortable with it then pass this one. Also, I like that the FL is virg*n types but she clearly has needs and once she's over her guilt or embarrassment of doing it with her dead husband's brother - she genuinely starts enjoying being intimate with the ML.

This novel is decent, nothing special but not bad either. FL is annoying to me because she's too weak and kind of fickle. ML is an a-hole and domineering not in a good way. The plot is cliché and predictable but still enjoyable. Smut parts are decent. Not my favorite but I didn't hate this novel.

For everyone tried to use high moral ground to read smut novels I want to say READ THE TAGS GOSH DANG IT! Tags are there to read, they aren't accessories to beautifying the page. Force... more>> into relationship and obsessive love are in the same tag but still expecting something cute, pure and sweet is just weird. This kind of novel always have morally questionable story line.

Tbh, this novel still has mild story and not as bad as some people reviewed. <<less

The plot kinda predictable. I just not enjoy how ML is lowkey forcing himself on FL (yep, we know deep down she enjoy too..😌) Not fan of FL character, she is confusing & smh weak. Normally I love obsessive ML but not this one, he fancy towards his sister in law & married her just a day after his brother died! Dude, calm down!!

Well, who’s love smut, maybe love this. Overall, its just so-so.

This is what you get, if it's not for you, then just don't go into this:

- possessive obsessed love, he forces her into marrying him and doing that ***... but she loves and enjoys it and baaarely resists him. this is a smut novel so it's full of that

- he apparently has known her before and has been in love with her and searching for her since then

- yeah she's the kind sweet gentle virg*n type of female lead, but reading this now, I think she's normal, just a good normal human being, stands up for herself when she needs to, it's just that with him she's a meek blushy little girl and he's the handsome scary hero man... they make a cute couple!

- still waiting for updates, but she will obviously fall for him too in the end

- it gets intersting after this because there are some mysteries that are just getting unveiled

-the translation's so good, if it was bad this maybe would been really annoying to read but the translation makes it way better]

it was very good plus the smut scenes where quite good too.

The ML wasnt the villain some people say it was a victim and tragic hero

The FL was indecisive for the most of the novel and sometimes annoying though I agree that at first its normal to be like this and I understand why was like this but later.. she was simply lying to herself.

the ML sacrificed himself to do a pact with a demonic hereditary family power so he can save FL at the past (when they first met) but because of this FL forgotten him (because of the pact) then the hateful mother of ML choose the FL as the wife of his brother... it was the time when the ML was ready to search for FL so he can marry her.

FL married his brother as arranged marriage and never loved him and neither do s*x because the brother was impotent (thanks god for that if they had s*x I would have dropped the novel) but because of the first marriage FL was feeling guilty at the beginning of the novel and that made ML feeling very bad (sad and angry)

In the end FL remember the ML and then accepted her feeling for him and told him that she loves him and want to stay with him for her rest of her life.

Probably the most hateful character was the Emperor. He wanted the FL and tried to steal her even though she was married to Ml... in the end of course he failed but he was really annoying....

Imagine you are the ML and your love of your life was married to your hateful brother (ML didnt have good relationship with his brother or his family) because your own parents wanted so.

The the mother Made the FL to choose a bride for her brother in law (ML)....

how the ML should feel ? or act? moreover because of the demonic powers the ML is easily angered or acting extreme.

And when he finally married the FL (after 2 wasted years because of his mother / FL was married to his brother for 2 years) FL feeling sad and guilty to her former husband even though she never loved him.... and denies the ML even though she is feeling good with ML and she is attracted to ML and she was attracted to ML when she saw him before meet the brother for the wedding and during the 2 years of marriage .

PLus you have an emperor who wanted to destroy your family and steal your love of your life / wife for himself

seriously people how the ML should act in all this?

I totally agree when you enjoy the smut scene it gets really confusing when you refer the duchess it says his thighs and it gets weird and some smut stories really had to fix this for example maid's night when maid the FL mirroring her chest it says his chest Ugh! Why? And who is ever gonna fix this!
