The End of the World is Coming? I’m Stockpiling!

Thick fog, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes splitting the land, extreme heat, and endless rain drowned the world. Bit by bit, the earth disappeared into the abyss of history.

After struggling to survive for three years in the apocalypse, Gu Mengran met his end in an icy river. But when he opened his eyes again, he was back—reborn with a mysterious space and a second chance before the disaster struck.

The world hadn’t collapsed yet. His loved ones were still alive. Without hesitation, Gu Mengran sold everything he had, emptied his savings, and teamed up with his grandpa to go into full-on hoarding mode.

Toxic fog? Masks, protective suits—buy!

Food shortages? Rice, flour, oil—hoard!

Volcanoes and earthquakes? Why wait—run!

As the land sank beneath the waves and humanity became adrift, Gu Mengran convinced his grandpa to dig into his retirement fund and buy a boat—a big one.

By the time the apocalypse arrived, their two-story “little villa” successfully set sail. Maybe this time, he could keep his family alive.

*

In his past life, Gu Mengran was gravely injured and completely unprepared. The only reason he managed to survive for three years was thanks to his old classmate, Liang Zhao, who risked his life to save him.

A debt that big couldn’t go unpaid. So this time, Gu Mengran tracked Liang Zhao down early and tricked him onto the boat, determined to bring him along.

But as they spent more time together, Gu Mengran started to notice—his once painfully straight-laced classmate… was looking at him in a way that was anything but pure.

Reading guide:

* Survival-focused story with farming elements—no heroism, no saving the world.

* A slow-paced, slice-of-life story—this isn’t an overpowered MC story.

* A “fake” double rebirth—Liang Zhao will slowly regain memories of his previous life.

* Fun, lighthearted writing—turn off your brain and enjoy the ride!

A good read, the sailing parts had me in chokehold in many moments and was refreshing as is the first time I see an apocalypse novel where the characters end up in living in the water.

Liked the characters but imo author left many things in the air. And that open ending was like "That's it? That's all?"

Recommended for something new after something super dramatic or something super sweet but not worth a reread.

2 stars.

When I first started reading this, I was wondering why the rating was so low even though the reviews seemed quite positive. Finishing the novel made it super clear why this novel had low ratings and I just wanted to write a review to give a different perspective from the other reviewers.

This novel is about the MC regressing in time to before the apocalypse caused by natural disasters start to prepare and save his life. The whole story follows the MC over a period of about 3 years. Firstly,... more>> I had a really hard time believing how the apocalypse played out because all the natural disasters and effects were completely against historical studies of natural disasters that have occurred in modern day Earth. The natural disasters in this novel played out in this order:
Spoiler

global volcanic eruptions + volcanic gas fog + earthquakes > deadly heat > non-stop rain for a year that caused all land to be submerged > cold spell.

[collapse]

This didn't make any sense, because
Spoiler

first, why does the author think volcanoes would only erupt once and be done erupting for the foreseeable future? Also, the volcanic ash from eruptions would obstruct sunlight and cause global cooling instead of a deadly heat, and there would be heavy acid rain from all the volcanic gas and ash. The characters in this story shouldn't have been able to fish, farm and run in the rain during the downpour of acid rain. Also it could never have rained to the point all the land disappeared, because rainwater doesn't cause rising sea levels unlike melting continental glaciers.

[collapse]
The way the author wrote how the disasters played out, as well as the short time frame of how quickly all the disasters happened, just made it extremely hard to suspend my disbelief of the sequence of events.

The next thing that made me really frustrated while reading is the MC's characterisation.

The author could not decide what kind of character they wanted the MC to be. One moment he is a fierce and experienced person, sternly giving advice to others who haven't been through an apocalypse like him to quickly prepare food and save themselves. The next moment, he's some whiny kid who is too trusting, forgetful of his own strengths, and dumb for someone who had already lived through an apocalypse. For example, MC's golden finger in this story is having a spatial ability to store all his stockpile, as well as a space where he could farm and raise livestock. However, despite MC already having this power in his past life, he constantly forgets that he has a space, which would have allowed him to solve his problem immediately instead of panicking over how to deal with issues.

MC is also constantly lying to everyone around him because he's under the impression that he needs to keep the space power he has a secret for his own safety, but he even lies to his grandfather in the beginning about his space, stating that he worries that his grandfather would not be able to believe him. Mind you, this is the grandfather who believed him immediately when he spouted nonsense about the world ending and spent his life's savings preparing, based on MC's words. The most irritating part is that MC can never keep his lies straight, every time he lies, he spins a new lie that is completely the opposite of his previous lies to other people. And of course, his dumb*ss gets exposed the moment these people talk to each other! Not only does he suck at lying, he also sucks at keeping his space a secret because all his actions when helping others literally spell out that he has some supernatural power to be able to keep pulling out huge amounts of supplies like fans and cooling packs. MC is like a pancake, he flip flops all the time, saying one thing and doing the other.

MC's lying also makes the romance in this story unbearable because he is constantly lying to the ML, when it would have made more sense to just simply come clean and lay out everything he knew about the natural disaster, instead of pretending to be some prophet who saw it in a dream.

I don't want to write a completely negative review of this novel but unfortunately... I really don't have any good things to say about this novel other than that the translator did a great job of translating. Thank you for your efforts!

Overall, I really wanted to like this novel, I made it to the end because I kept hoping it gets better (sadly, no it didn't). <<less

Natural disaster Apocalypse setting was rare. I can't say I haven't read this kind of thing because I had found Zombie novel that has Natural Disaster too. But I guess their Natural disaster not as Terrifying as this one. Just imagine this happen and we can't do anything but survive was truly challenging. I'm glad MC has Magical Space because it truly help his situation with his Grandpa and ML.

Anyway so far it's truly Interesting. I love the dynamic MC has with his Grandpa and ML. Especially on the emotional... more>> scene.

I don't think they're going to have easy journey just because the author said this novel is a Lighthearted one. Lol

Anyway I hope it would have a Clear and Satisfying ending 🙏 Amen <<less

I would rate this a 3.5-4 stars. It’s a good novel. I’m just sad and a little salty about the plot near the end. I wanted a comfy and wholesome novel to read for me to just turn my brain off and enjoy. But what did I get? Suspense! Sadness! Somberness! Anger! I will say I’m to blame because I should have expected it because this is an apocalyptic world, full of danger from not only the world ending but also from human’s evil greed and selfishness. The author did... more>> not hesitate to bring the topic of human’s selfish greed and evil. The villain at the end made me so angry with how much of a disgusting s*um to the earth type of guy he was! There were quite a few scenes that made me emotional (being either sadness or anger). I would say the author does keep it not too heavy, thankfully as I would not be prepared considering that I came in to reading this for hopes of it being comfy and cozy. It did have these elements, along with bringing the stories of the world ending which would remind you the type of world they live in. The world ending was definitely not put on to the side to be some brief little backstory. The author did actually explore this topic bringing more depth to the world building. If you want to read this novel to the end, do prepare yourself and your emotions as this novel is not just a comfy and slice of life type of story. <<less

Spoiler

The feeling of doomsday was really strong. Gu Mengran held the rudder, looked at the gloomy sky through the windshield, listened to the sound of the rain, and felt inexplicably stuffy in his chest.

Me be like when in elementary school, everytime I go home before sunset. Either the dark sky before rain or just the nearing drowned sun in the horizon. Riding in almost empty public bus through almost empty street and watching no people but only streetlight. I feel scared and goosebumps appear.

Such a childish fear.

[collapse]

It is truly slice of life..

Looking at the completed chapter, I'm not expecting extras or anything. Because I really like this genre and would repeat reading a bunch of times.

This one remind me of Luo Xun, the Reborn Otaku Code's For Apocalypse. But this has more serious tone and more delicate writing, even more at the beginning of the chapter.

The sequence of how the plot going, imo, is really clear. The author look like someone who really know the terrain or took bunch of trips just to write this.

While I can feel dreadful and terrifying atmosphere in each pivotal plot like the beginning o doomsday, sudden flashflood, plague, etc.. third of writing consist of cooking description.

But if you compare it with Otaku Code's, this one undoubtedly more compact and to the point. There are progress in each chapter and altho not all engaging.

I already past half of the book but the main couple ain't official yet😡

If you count the term of how long they took sail, it's not slow... but if you count from the chapters available, it is slow romance🤔

Anyway, it's good but maybe too much relaxed. But if you are fan of Otaku Code, you will like this too.

It's alright, the dialogue reads kind of stiff like a one-man show? But I'm here for the romance because oh it's so sweet so full of yearning and the chemistry is amazing! Unfortunately, it's not the main point of this novel at all, this is more of a life-focused water-faring novel. So all you read about is them doing everything else rather than progressing their romantic life. Even at the end, it was never about a two-person sweetness at all.
