The Exhausting Reality of Novel Transmigration

I’ve had enough of being transmigrated into books.

You would be tired of it too, especially if it was already your fourth time doing it. This time, I became the female lead’s villainous older sister.

‘Oh, I’m so sick of this.’

Yet again, I was sure this life wouldn’t be exciting either. I had led straightforward lives before, and then I died and moved on to the next.

But why was it that this iteration was a tad different?

‘Why can I use the abilities I had in my second transmigration?’

‘Why is the female lead bothering me so much?’

Alicia, this novel’s protagonist, was fated to have a poor, emaciated life. However, considering that she was this novel’s true heroine, I couldn’t just let her roll through the mud like this. I would do everything in my power to change her fate.

‘My younger sister, don’t become the female lead this time.’

To achieve my goal through a project hereby dubbed as the [Mob-Alicia Project], I’ve recruited the male lead’s older brother.

Cassion Carter.

He was the villain who was almost killed—no, was fated to be killed—by the male lead.

“If you want to live, promise me one thing.”

As if he was a wild beast that had been hunted and left to die alone, he breathed with incredible difficulty. I reached toward the poor man’s face and caressed his cheek, leaning down to whisper softly.

“If I save you…”

Lay down your own life on the line to protect my sister.

It isn't a masterpiece, but surely not a tr*sh either. It's quite enjoyable to read, and is pretty good storywise. I read it in Korean, tho, so I can't vouch for the translations. However, it is good enough for me to read from beginning to end.

As usual, I don't read side stories if the main story isn't wonderful enough. And as you can see, I didn't read the side stories. Still, the story itself is definitely to my liking, I just don't think this is a wonderful book.

Anyway, MC is... more>> broken, transmigrated woman. She's broken enough that she's cold and calculative, but not broken enough to be unfeeling. She found a resolve to protect his new sister as soon as she woke up in her new body, just because she didn't want what happened to her happens to her new sister. She's kind even if she tried not to show it.

As for the male lead, he's pretty passive and only followed MC's commands for the most part, but he also did his parts. Calling him ornament is clearly too much.
Spoiler

He fought against monsters and saved MC at one point of the story, for example.

[collapse]

Honestly, the writing execution of his character isn't very well done at first. There's one like him, that Prince Perez from the novel with Lombardi family. Yet, unlike Perez, in my opinion, Cassion is a bit bland in the beginning. He does have a character development, tho, and he's gotten better by the end of the story.

The side characters aren't all that great either. Most of them don't feel alive most of the time, and some are plain annoying. The early story villain was almost comically evil, and the late story villains weren't all better. The characters could be better, really, but the author seems to put more efforts in other things.

Then, there are many parts of the book where it was dedicated to create mystery about who the real villain was. It failed big time for me, as it was apparent from the beginning that this certain man is the real villain. Yet, the author kept on trying to direct my suspicions the other way, like, WAAAAYY too much. Had they stopped doing that and instead do some more works on the characters, it would have been better.

Anyway, there's one thing bothering me after reading some reviews here. See;

When people reads a time-travel or transmigration novels, they often forget that the description of each characters in the "original novel" should always be something that is untrustworthy. Sometime because the original novel was written from the original main character's viewpoint, sometime because the original novel's author was partial toward the main characters/male leads, and sometime because the descriptions used were for the future main characters.

There would always be inconsistency between the original novel description vs the "real world" person the transmigrator entered in. If you think this is ridiculous, then I think you failed to understand that.

Outside interferences should also be considered when it comes to these inconsistencies. For example, the "male lead" who is "supposed to be evil mastermind" becomes a "weak and shy ornament" (he's not an ornament down the line by the way but whatever), is because OUR MAIN CHARACTER literally interfered and saved him. That made the male lead lose his potential to become evil, because MC literally showed him kindness.

You need to know that the "male lead" becomes "villain" in the original story because nobody helped him. He was corrupted by loneliness and hatred. But in this timeline where MC helped him, he had lost that opportunity.

This "inconsistency" also shows up with Alicia (MC's sister). She was supposed to be a dumb weakling coward female lead, but she showed courage in the early chapters and throughout the story because MC showed her courage and kindness first. She's grown stronger, albeit not smarter.

Thus, I can easily say that these are NOT inconsistency, but growth or change or alterations.

The original Male Lead, tho, has always been a sadist, manipulative villain. Even in the original.
Spoiler

He tried to kill Cassion, his own brother who didn't even do anything to him. He poisoned his father alongside his mother. He manipulated Alicia just so he can have her. He let monsters loose in the hunting event in the original and killed them all just so he can become a hero. He wasn't supposed to be a hero, he was a villain who disguised himself as hero. It's always been like that in the original novel. There's no inconsistency.

[collapse]

So, whatever "inconsistency" that one review mentioned, those are all bull. <<less

This is easily one of the top 10 otome isekai stories on here. The MC is so strong and independent, and she has so much charisma and strength despite going through so much hardships. Seeing her character develop throughout the story from a cold, detached woman afraid of feeling any form of attachment to others (for good reason) who only sees the world as an extension of a novel to a kind, loving, dependable FL who's willing to do anything for the people she loves/cherishes is one of the most... more>> satisfying parts of this story. The plot is also well-written with no plot holes and all the side characters have their own personality, quirks and intricate backstory to them that make them lovable. The ending was very satisfying and the story wrapped up all the loose ends perfectly so no question goes unanswered when you finish. Another interesting aspect of this is the fact that, for a majority of the story, the ML (who is an absolute cutie pie cinnamon roll) is the one who depends on the FL rather than the other way around. While other people have complained about this, I personally think it's a pro rather than a con regarding the story. FL is usually the knight in shining armour to save ML whenever he's in danger which is quite refreshing to see in a sea of other stories with damsel in distress FLs, and she is consistently like that the whole story which I love about her haha. I also love the humour sprinkled throughout the novel.

The only negative thing I would comment about this was the way they handled the issue about r*pe, which seemed quickly glossed over and in some aspects it could be seen that there was victim blaming as well which is not good. The reveal of the main antagonist could have also been done in a faster fashion rather than taking 80% of the story to finally confirm who it was when basically every reader already knew in the back of their mind who it was. In this way, the plot could have progressed at a much faster pace. Other than that, I really enjoyed reading this. There were a lot of heartfelt moments where it made me cry as well...

TL;DR - this story is one of the best KR light novels in the otome isekai genre. Although it's not perfect, it's a story that you would be missing out on by not reading it. <<less

Strong female lead, uselessly weak male lead that didn't really contribute anything to the story. Interesting concept, boring execution. Very lukewarm anti-climatic style of romance.

Family Drama 8/10

Romance 3/10

Plot 6/10

I stayed for the family drama, but I did have to skip through a lot to get to the ending.

Oh how absolutely wonderful <333 few novels can inspire me to leave a review but this is so worth it! We have:

  • an independent main character who is strong, kind, hilarious and her character only becomes better over time
  • a super cute, devoted male lead who believes in her wholeheartedly and isn't caught up in trying to be macho
  • side characters of all kinds, each who clearly have their own lives, motivations, and redemptions
  • an extremely well-written villain who makes your skin crawl
  • a fun plot :)
I suppose one could argue that the... more>> happy ending wrapped things up a little too neatly but honestly? I'm so happy about it. Some of the extras felt a little random but that's pretty much the only complaint I have for this story. To our main character, Rosetta... I would also like to marry her XD <<less

I have finished this story all the way to the side stories and I can tell you that me doing that is very rare. There are so many stories that I have yet to finish just because I got bored somewhere in the middle and dropped the story before reaching the end. But not ER. The story was great and the characters were even better. The translation was the cherry on top for me since the translator did a great job in conveying how well it was written. Most stories... more>> loose their meaning because of translations that are lacking.

Anyway I will not spoil it for others and simply say that this was a worth it read for me. I loved the characters so much. Esp. Rosetta. She is the type of character I look up and say "i wish I could be like that!" But ofcourse rosetta became like that because of the lives she lived and pain she suffered. Im glad the ending gave her justice in the end.

I will miss all of them. Rosetta, cassion, blanca, diana, logan and the valentines. It was a good read. <<less

It was a pretty interesting ride. Some things, like the side stories are just hilarious or unexpected.

The translation was great, so zero complaints there

I think the plot was well done, it doesn't feel rushed nor is slow as to get boring.

... more>> Characters:

The good ones are so cute I may get diabetes sometimes. I have to admit that Alicia's personality on most of the story can get annoying though (not a fan of crybabies).

The bad ones are, in my opinion, a perfect example of how close to a cesspool humans can possibly get so I would say, they work as intended.

About that God entity...

One does need some pain to realize and appreciate the good and mature, yes.

But, let's recap here, 1st life, utter shit, 1st transmigration, decent life, 2nd transmigration, shitty, just not as bad as 1st life or the next ones, 3rd one, we know she got strong but it's not like it was smooth nor it was bestowed upon her just like that, it came from effort, then the 4th, which was basically hell, then back home.

The entity only cared for what seems to have hit a nerve for it. It's not a matter of ethics, it's just hypocrisy. If you really don't like humans fighting, why boost a psycho and let people suffer in his hands? To add insult to injury, then punish those victims when they yell in despair as a consequence for that boosting?

If one thinks about it, matter of factly, the world didn't get destroyed, nor the sister avoid being a protagonist. Thus her wishes were ignored, but punishment sure was imparted.

All that Rosetta got directly from the entity then, let's recap:

Something good but just to be snatched later (meaning it was there just to provide comparison and thus subsequent pain and despair), plus losing herself almost entirely.

All the good that bloomed was from her effort, her character as a person, and the people around her being nice in nature when she met them.

If there's a God (or Gods) like this... It can go impale itself with a rusted chainsaw in the butt, in my opinion, it's nothing to be adored nor respected. <<less

It was a nice ride.

Really shows the harsh reality of novel transmigration that's usually brushed away by other novels like how sensitively relationships are tied to each other and that any minor change in personalities are not so easily forgotten or unnoticed by people close to the body the lead usually possesses

What mother wouldn't notice if her child started acting strangely and which brother would suddenly accept if the sister they were close to suddenly started acting differently? Having to act in a way to not cause unnecessary pain to... more>> the original body's relationships and showing the desperation and how she has to walk a tightrope in navigating the original body's personal relationships really highlights how humanely the author wanted to showcase the main character.

Body dysmorphia as a result of transmigrating multiple times and the effect it has on the psyche was portrayed wonderfully, and honestly the harsh truth hits so close to home.

This work isn't by far the greatest to ever be made but it's not bad either. The title is as it shows, the story goes on about how a person broken multiple times tries to walk back up after escaping and it really shows how much the author cares about the validity of the story by making sound choices in how the character would act. Give it a read and review the story for yourself after <<less

I've enjoyed it. I feel like the MC and ML really fit each other. The story is mostly focused on a silent duel between the MC and the villian, each manipulating the situation to find an opportunity to attack. It's interesting and a little unique.

The translation of this is amazing and I mostly enjoyed reading this until about chapter 100 or so. The author showed the fear and horror that can be part of transmigration as well as feeling like a mouse in a trap in the face of evil. The fl's history as well as her reaction to the horror she experienced is however a double edged sword that makes her bland because she loses any personal identifying markers. She doesn't have an age, she doesn't have a true personality etc etc. She is bland and it's understandable, but I also couldn't connect with her because of it. However, I mainly dropped for the following reasons:

1. The story has a male r@pe victim and his trauma is glossed over and he is branded a villian because of his trauma response. The FL goes as far as using his untreated trauma response against him as a way of not having to give him the time of day.

2.
Spoiler

The god of that world is eventually revealed as evil. This means that the villians I've read about for over 150 chapters becomes obsolete because a minor villian is irrelevant against an evil god. In many Eastern religions there are multiple gods and none of them are purely good. The author however mixed monotheism with polytheism in a way that theologically doesn't make sense. You can't create a monotheistic god and give him polytheistic traits and make it make sense.

[collapse]
Evil can only exist with free will and the author doesn't seem to understand this. 3. The author uses glaringly juvenile ways of trying to create intrigue or show the FL is smart.

At about halfway we as readers are suddenly being thrown into "blindfolded" scenes where we hear people talk but we don't know who is talking, or what they are doing or even talking about. This doesn't create mystery, it creates frustration, especially after reading almost 100 chapters. I can excuse this in the beginning of a novel, but not halfway through.

The author also tries to make the FL seem smart by creating conversations where half the conversation or the information needed to have a logical conversation is left out. The FL then avoids conversational traps, or answers questions that were never asked or reads between lines that don't exist. The idea is to show that she has insight and can extrapolate, but this isn't done by taking the time to write intelligent or witty conversation, it's merely done by artificially creating holes in the conversations. 4. The ML is the worst kind of mid. He becomes powerful because the FL is OP. Even when powerful he is like a dependent puppy and the FL is his indulging master. This is obviously subjective, but I want a strong ML who doesn't feel like he is falling in love with his nanny. Or worse, falling in love with a mother figure. 5. Lastly, eventually the story became full of filler. It felt like it was either a different author or they were being paid per word. Reading a story for most of a day and then suddenly having to trudge through filler, conversations between unidentified characters etc etc lead to a death by a thousand paper cuts. It went from intriguing to exhausting and then we get a new villian. The holes in the plot, the bland fl, puppy ml, filler, ridiculous new villians etc etc just became too much. Add that to the way the r@pe victim was portrayed and I couldn't read on. It's sad, but hopefully the author gets better with experience because this could've been great.

It was hard deciding between a 4 and a 5. Went with 4 because I feel like the execution and writing could've been better. The plot/characters/romance were good, but I think the writing was the reason I got bored. I almost dropped it around Chapter 80, but thankfully I stayed since it actually got good at 100+. Though, I'm not sure if that's really a good thing since it took 100 chapters for the plot to really get moving. That said, I appreciate how the author took time to develop... more>> the characters (100 chapter and more lmao) instead of giving us already OP characters (though, the MC is pretty OP initially).

The MC's personality is solid (even though she's not my type). She gives off the vibes of a mafia boss lmao. She rarely does anything s*upid (actually, maybe never since she gives reasonable explanations for what she does and plans ahead well), and she's quite strategic. The ML's personality isn't that of a villain, which surprised me. He's compared to a puppy iirc. Their relationship is wholesome, and the romance feels warm (slow burn though). I'm so glad we don't have a dense MC!

I like the mind games and stuff between the MC and antagonist, so that's what kept the plot interesting. Still, I was annoyed by how the author tries to trick you and hide who the main antagonist was. I enjoyed the mystery at first, but it got old. It eventually got pretty obvious imo, so the author continuing to do it made it a bit boring. The reveal wasn't even that great.

Basically, I think the characters carried the novel despite the middling writing quality. I feel like the author tries too hard to make things feel deep, and the pacing is a bit slow (100 chapters / half the novel for preparing the MC&ML? Understandable, but not interesting to read). Also, it feels like the MC never really struggles much. Like it's all according to keikaku. Makes me think the MC is cool, but she's so OP strategically/physically it ain't that suspenseful anymore. There were emotional moments though, so the author did decently enough. Just not 5* quality writing, but the characters were 5*. Especially the MC's sister! I enjoyed her character development the most.

Ah, I also liked how some of the tropes/cliches were acknowledged and averted. <<less

It was an amazing ride. The story was enjoyable, it had its share of thrill, laughter, cry and a bit of horror (for the easily frightened me) it was more of a mix of mystery and thrill. The events were all connected and every thing gets unraveled in the end beautifully with a nice closure.

I liked the plot setting and character design, they were the perfect balance of being a strong fictional character and a fragile emotional person. The writing was also amazing it pulls you instantly in the novel... more>> world.

Worth reading and it will be one of my stable favorites. <<less

A nitpick of many transmigration stories and the way they work. Relatively short considering how much they do in it honestly, but fills out all loose ends pretty well.

Her thoughts are pretty well explained and dissects pretty nicely the logic of things and how she decides to go with the inevitable vs trying to fight other inevitable things.
