The ritual taken at the age of 15- [Heaven’s Blessing].

Under that, I was given the job [Farmer] and skill [Poison Resistance]. Though born in a famed noble house of swordsmen, Under the heap of ab*ses and shouts, I had my seat as the inheritor to the house taken away and exiled from my house by my father.

At loss, and with no future in sight—-It was revealed that the skill [Poison Resistance] was actually [Null Poison]. And then, an encounter with an ancient book; I would come to learn the usefulness of my skill.

Yes, what was considered a waste skill, [Null Poison], was actually a strong skill that could quite literally nullify “any” kind of poisonous substance.

The bad reviews are judging this novel way too fast. I guess they want a godlike MC that was blessed by the heavens and can destroy every enemy with a glance. No, this novel is slow, and MC wasn't blessed by the heavens (literally, they gave him the worst class ever, and a useless skill). What made me read this was curiosity. Unlike most JP novels, I didn't know how could he do something with some dumb "Null poison skill". They usually tell you about it in like, one or... more>> two chapters.

Spoiler

I thought it would be like Arifureta, and he would start eating monsters, getting their stats and skills and getting OP, but no. He gets a herbalism book, and realises that some poisonous plants he ate before (because he had nothing better to eat, and had a null poison skill, of course) could improve his stats. He must learn about them (because there is no system that tells him what to do).

JP novels are quick, concise and simple. They practically tell you the plot in the title and just dive on in.

This one doesn't do that. Even up to chapter 17 he hasn't used his power and the intro is extremely boring. So much time is wasted on trivial stuff.

A very poor use of the JP novel execution.

My problem with this story is twofold:

1. Revenge stories just never tend to be all that good in the first place...

2. It is just plain way to generic.

There is nothing in this story that makes it stand out from the crowd in any way. At All.

The main character is relatively intelligent and handles problems that come his way in a smart manner, as well as exploiting the gimmick of the story, being that he's immune to poison so he eats fruits to gain power. Where this fails is that the plot is incredibly drawn out and could really be cut in half and still have the same content. Additionally, it's a revenge story where the MC's brother seriously loathes him and wants him dead for mostly unfounded or at least very poorly explained reasons. Said... more>> brother is also absurdly mentioned to be far ahead of the MC in power level/growth to the point where it makes it unreasonable to see the MC catch up without it being a shortcut. <<less

Nice intelligent MC. Clearly set goals with clear path to achieve them. Main antagonist is more of a personal enemy than evil being which is nice as well.

I would like to see a bit faster pace. And author probably has issues with numbers because MC doesn't grow as quickly as he should (in theory he needs 2-3 years to have arguably best stats in the world).

Keep in mind that there is way less plot armor and for some people too many details comparing to 95% of Jap novels.

Different from most kicked out of family or guild revenge novels, the MC is smart, knows when to pick his fights, and wasnt given a completely broken skill. He isn’t soft hearted and kills those who wanna harm him without a second thought and protects those he cares about with all his life. Love this series the TL is a bit iffy with common typos but other than that no complaints

The story is sort of split up into 7 distinctive parts:

  • Beginning
  • Forest
  • Town 1
  • Town 2
  • Town 3
  • Town 4
  • Ending
Beginning

I will be honest with you... the beginning premise doesn't make a lot of sense. In my opinion, if this story is officially published it needs to be changed because it is multiple plot contrivances all wrapped into one.

In this world, on your 16th birthday you are given a "job" which determines your skills and class distribution. It can determine your career, life, and status. These jobs are sort of random and don't really have anything... more>> to do with your upbringing. Yet despite that the Head of a noble house only trains 1 son in swordmenship. This is incredibly dumb considering how random it can be. If you want to ensure you have an heir that takes after you then you would want to train them all in hopes of getting lucky.

The next issue is that our Main Character goes to the church on his 18th birthday to find out his class. It turns out he gets the "Farmer" Job which sucks. However, his younger brother gets the "Sword God" job which is one of the best. If he is the younger brother... how did he also get his job at the same time? They are never mentioned being twins, so the only way this is possible is if they were born in the same year which is unlikely. Assuming our main character popped out on Jan 1st that only gives about a 3 month leeway for his younger brother. This is even worse in the manga as they are shown being years apart in the flashbacks.

In the end the younger brother was mad that he never go attention, while the main character got it all. Now that he has a powerful class and is full of himself he tries to kill her older brother (main character). While this sort of makes sense it isn't explained very well. I feel like this could have been done way better.

The whole beginning section is pretty short, so you forget about it after chapter 20, but it is probably the worst part in the whole series.

Forest - Town 3

The majority of the story (350+ chapters) covers the forest, town 1, town 2, and town 3 which is absolutely amazing in my opinion. One of the things I really love about this series is how much detail the author puts into each little thing. We learn about plants, monsters, breaking down animal materials, adventuring, buying supplies, traveling, skills, and so on.

You don't just go out and kill a monster. You defeat it hoping not to damage the materials to much, then break it down, and carry the 500lb materials back to town. There isn't item boxes and inventory systems... its hard work. It is these little details that really pull you into the story and helps you learn about the world and the struggles our characters go through.

Town 4 - Ending

I feel that we left the 3rd town way too fast which left us with skipped content and unanswered questions. Here are some examples:

  • Fog Lake in Forest
  • Demon Tribe in Forest
  • Second Tunnel in Cave
  • Gungeon
  • Vince from Moonlight being sus
To be honest, I wish I ended the series after they left the 3rd town because the rest of it feels pretty rushed. Don't get me wrong there are some good moments, but it pretty much goes how you would expect. I'm gonna call it here I think the author just wanted to finish it. We don't even really get a proper ending and it just skips the epilogue. There are some additional side stories, but the ending turned me off. This is a shame because the Forest - Town 3 is a solid 8/10 and maybe a 9/10 at some parts.

Pros

Finally, a ranking system that isn't "s, a, b, c, d, e", but instead a system based on metals. I think metals make a lot of sense because they are valuable materials and often used in adventurers equipment. It is also something easy to understand that far poor peasants in a small village somewhere. A Japanese main character seeing English letters for ranking in an isekai fantasy that has auto translate just seems odd to me. This isn't an isekai, but it gets old when 98/100 fantasy stories use that same ranking.

The Main Character is pretty analytical. They think about how to solve different problems, how much stuff costs, who to hire, who to team with, are their benefits. They actually think for themselves instead of just going with a new waifu. Additionally, the main character isn't overly nice. A lot of jp Main Characters will act all virtuous or pretend to be a bad boy while still helping everyone. This doesn't really happen here, the main character specifically weighs the options of saving someone or not and sometimes they don't make it. The same goes for bad guys... a few times they are let go, but most of the time they aren't.

Speaking of Waifus, there really isn't any. The Main Character doesn't have a harem or love interest. Sure, there are female characters that the readers could le*d over, but they are not that way in the story. The story solely focuses on the fantasy adventure with their small group. It isn't that I hate harems, but I feel that they often take over the plot. In episode 2 you save the village chiefs daughter, then in episode 4 you buy the beastmen s*ave. Then you run into the ninja waifu in episode 6, but of course in episode 7 you need to go back to the first waifu to set them up as a love interest. Then you bounce back to the next one in episode 9, which of course has the 3rd on in episode 10. The season ends with a monster fight in episode 11 and the boss fight in episode 12.

I love my monsters being monstrous... It shows us why people truly fear them and why they are so hated. This story does a great job with this... monsters will snatch you away and eat you alive without a second thought. It is a tough world with man eating monsters and bandits killing people... Personally, this is what I look for in a fantasy story.

I mentioned above that the story is extremely detailed. This slows down the progression of the main plot and it power creep. This allows us to really learn about the world, abilities, magic, and skills. I really love the time it takes going over these. Additonally, even though the main plot takes longer to achieve, the pacing for each individuals scene doesn't feel slow. For most of the story I was completely hooked. "What does this plant do?", "Could you use that skill with this plant?", "how does this affect you with poison immunity?"

Cons

I mentioned above that the main character is pretty smart and thinks things through, but towards the end when we get to town 4 he starts making a lot of mistakes. Specific tactics or actions he would have done previously are sort of forgotten about. It is a bit strange, almost like it was written by someone else or something.

Everyone in this world is born with a magic affinity. Typically this is one of the 4 elements (fire, water, wind, earth), but there are a few other options (light, dark, healing). We find out that the main characters affinity is "fire" and to be honest this sort of pissed me off a little bit. Our main character has the farmer job and special ability of "poison immunity". Not to mention he survived in the forest eating only poison plants and continued to eat poisous plants long after that. Wouldn't earth or poison be far more likely option here? Then he also ends up getting a pet that can use water and wind to create ice magic, so this means he is exposed to those elements, so maybe this might be slightly more likely? I guess, I just feel that fire is probably the least likely element to get considering everything above. All this being said, the main character almost never uses magic. He starts a few fires and that is about it, but I just feel like this is a wasted opportunity.

Sort of early on in the story the Main Character notices some s*aves in the black market. There are a few sentences about how it is horrible, but that is about it. However, 200+ chapters later the Main Character sort of picks it as his life mission after he gets revenge. It sort of feels like it comes out of no where since we NEVER see a s*ave after that initial point. Then we go another 100+ chapters and he references it again. It just sort of feels like it comes out of nowhere since we never see it. It is sort of like watching all of the John Wick movies and in the last 20 minutes of the last movie John Wick says he wants to become a Trumpet Player. It would feel completely out of nowhere right? I'm all for stopping the s*avery of beastmen and I think that is a great cause for the Main Character to get behind, but it just felt odd. I think they should have included more examples of s*avery throughout the story to give us a reason why he truly hated it.

I mentioned this above, but towards then end it feels like the author started getting lazy. We start seeing a lot of references to modern technology like lights and running water. We even have modern practices like organ removal. Up to this point, the society is completely medieval, so it sort of breaks cohesion and feels off.

My last complaint is their pet Snow. Snow is insanely smart... you could tell it to make you food and it will goto the library look up the ingredients, then goto the market and buy them, and finally come back and make it. Ok, that is an over estimate, but man this pet is insanely smart for a cat. We never really get an answer why which makes it feel like a plot contrivance. It isn't a huge deal because the cat isn't doing anything too crazy, but when it does happen it always makes me go "huh?". <<less

This is a pretty good story. Guy swears revenge but needs to power up first. The fighting is good and the update speed is terrific. There are certainly flaws but the chapters are long and there is always something happening, so the flaws are easy to ignore.

The problem is the writing. The MC is a terrible character. His interactions with other people are more like interactions with NPCs. He conveniently bumps into 2 allies with extremely useful skills right away. He also winds up getting the exact info or item... more>> he needs no matter how unlikely. Of course, the next several chapters are spent on combat or exploration so things stay interesting, but it is pretty weak when the author has to repeatedly rely on this deus ex machina. But if you're looking for a fantasy adventure with classes and stats, this might be worth your time. <<less

The story was entertaining and pretty straightforward. There wasn't much world building, personally I would have enjoyed if it had more adventure but the MC was very focused on his quest for revenge so the world couldn't be explored as much.

If you're searching for a short story with loads of action I recommend it.

It may not be the best literary masterpiece out there but I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Some parts of the character development are pretty shallow and a lot of spots could use some refining but overall it's a simple and straightforward story.

The relationship between the main cast isn't as developed as I'd like it to be but for the story it felt just right. Character relationships aside from the main cast aren't really very well explored, especially people starting volume 3. Some we might get info dumps on but most... more>> likely you wouldn't get anything aside from a name or role to go off of.

Plot wise, I like how it went straight to the point and didn't try to drag everything out. A refreshing work compared to others with more detail. I got used to the slower pacing that the pace in this novel surprised me quite a bit. It kept to the revenge story and made that the goal to the end. The author only built towards this and rarely strayed if they even did at all. The chapters are pretty short so it should be easy to blitz through the 400 chapters.

Again it's not the best literary work out there and also needs refinement in some portions but otherwise it's a fun read for the genre. Although the ending felt a bit lackluster and maybe I would have liked to explore the aftermath a bit more, this should be worth picking up and reading in your spare time. <<less

I must say I am disappointed.

The MC fully deserves tag Naive protagonist. If it was possible I would give him something more degrading. If MC has lived in one house for 16 years with his family and he didn't know the character of his father, he didn't have a proper talk with his only brother or he didn't know that his brother is a little sh*t then he fully deserve to get what is coming to him. If only he could die because of his s*upidity.

Let's be honest, the MC... more>> is alive after 5 chapters only because of happy coincidences (plot armour), that author magnificently prepared for him and not because MC planned anything. Taking into account that the beginning is like that then the rest of story will be the same. <<less
